What To Do About The Apostrophe In My Last Name

I am brand new to Fine Art America. My name is Sheila O'Gara. Because my last name has an apostrophe, when people click on one of my images, it directs them to a page by an artist named Sheila O. That's not me. What can I do to correct this? My customers from previous sales elsewhere all know me as Sheila O'Gara.

Hi Sheila,

I am not sure what you mean -

If someone clicks on your images it will open to that image on your site.

If they are clicking on your image it cannot open to someone else's page.

If you are referring to a name search - that will open to a search page and any name that matches yours or is close to a match will show.

EDIT: I did an artist search for Sheila O and only your art came up - : )

No problem!

There is a problem with your Facebook link. Don't put in https, just your name

This could also happen if there is a broken link. For example, if you change the image title, then any links out there will be broken and could go to the other Sheila page when someone clicks on it. I have this issue as there's another Jennifer White here. I learned to double check my titles before sharing on SM, to not change the title, or if I do have to change title after sharing I go find those links and delete/redo (which is a pain).

Hi Sheila, welcome to the site It's possible your images glitched earlier . I clicked on all of your images and I was not redirected, so at least all is well now.

this is the page that came up when I put your full name in the ARTIST search https://fineartamerica.com/art/sheila+grace+o%27gara?searchType=artistname

It's still happening. When I put my name in the search (Sheila O'Gara), it brings up my page and under my name there are 6 thumbnail size images, which all belong to me... one for canvas prints, one for framed prints, etc. When you click on any one of those, a page comes up belonging to "Sheila O". Like I said, this is not me.

Thank you all for helping to figure this out! I really appreciate it :) I agree, when you type my name in the "Artists" search, it's fine. I'm talking about the search bar on the home page...the page everyone sees when they first go to www.fineartamerica.com. There is a search bar next to the words "Fine Art America" on the top left. When I type in my name, I see my page. This is good. But then when I click on any one of the 6 thumbnail images, it goes to Sheila O's page, not mine. I'm thinking the apostrophe in O'Gara makes the search stop at Sheila O instead of the full name -Sheila O'Gara.

I think this because I read in another discussion that you can't use apostrophes in a title or the title will cut off just before the apostrophe when doing a search??

Artists search, not art keywords search

It works fine on my end. Try deleting your history to clear the cache. When I click on an image from your main page it just goes to the image page and your name shows correctly.

The apostrophe does work in titles. Very early on it did not. What it's doing to you is odd, though.

I just tried what you're talking about and you're right. It doesn't connect to your account when you click on one of your images, it goes to someone else's page.

That's odd.

I have not yet tried to find thumbnails like Mary did (maybe tomorrow) but interesting I clicked on FAA Abbie's link and it shows 2 images. Click on image than click on your name and I find 5 images and you say there are 6 thumbnails images???? 2 images? 5 images? 6 images? is different numbers a glitch or because something was just recently been uploaded and had not yet....how do you say it?...."populated"? all the different ways to find images? Purely curiosity on my part? Good luck figuring this out.

Sheila, this just occurred to me - you say you are brand new - sometimes it takes 24-48 hours before the images populate throughout the site. Maybe give it a couple of days and it will work properly.

This is an issue with any keyword search that conatains an apostrophe. The search uses the apostophe in the term correctly but the links from the results cannot contain the apostrophe so it gets truncated.

You can see the same thing happen with a search such as "Murphy's law"

Thank you, William. That makes sense, but what can I do about it?? I thought about changing my name on FAA from Sheila O'Gara to my business name, Sheila Grace Designs. Thoughts from any of you?

Hi Sheila,

If you want your name changed you can change it internally by going to Settings > Public Profile > Contact Information and change it there.

If you want your URL changed - contact Abbie and she can do that for you -

Lots of artists go by their business name.
