Has faa/ pixels given up on posting average monthly sales numbers in these threads? One opened 4 hours ago and the disclaimer is at the bottom of it but there are no numbers listed for the participants.....

That happens when that feature is turned on after folks have commented so don't believe it is retro.

Only people posting AFTER making it a sales discussion.

The policy seems to have killed sales threads.

We used to see them almost daily, now they are few and far between.

Not sure if that is a good thing or not.

Floyd

Even some threads that really aren't sales threads. ;-)

This seems to be a thread about sales so maybe we can turn it on. I understand why some dont like them but it also helps me keep track of how I'm doing...

Hey Marlene I think as the OP you have to request it be turned on by Abbie... but be warned, it will scare off those who dont want other people to know what their sales numbers are...

Jeff, I just keep track of it through an old sales thread. Our numbers update.

I noticed that as soon as Abbie changed the other thread to a sales thread, everybody abandoned ship.

Maybe I'll go post something over there...

Frankly, I think everything that ever needed to be said about sales and marketing was said by Sean when made his last post about transparency and elaborated on the new policy that established the Sales Threads policy.

That should be a permanent sticky and everyone directed to read it whenever the topic comes up.

But instead, for some strange reason, it was removed. I for the life of me can't figure out why. It was the most informative thread regarding sales and marketing every posted on FAA, IMHO.

i never really totally understood the whole sales thing anyway. i can understand that it shuts up people that don't really want to reveal they are full of it, and make no sales here at all. but at the same time if you sell your own work to yourself, buying it for yourself, your numbers will go up. and its an average, so you may do very well one month and the rest is nothing. and it was simply a coincidence you did well.

i think in the end a newbie will just want to know what the advice is, even if its just passed on by someone that does sell well, and don't care so much that you only average a certain amount a month. or maybe its harmful to the site, where knowing that everyone that answered for the most part only make 4 sales a month, the newbie will assume the number should be a lot higher.

The misinformation it has stopped being spread, is worth far more than people not wanting to share sales figures.

It's staying.

Besides, I rarely use it. Until people remind me it's there

Artists have a tough time selling, no surprise there.

Certain personalities have a very hard time being honest about that, no surprise there.

Other people have experience in marketing and know what they are doing.

I think among us the air got cleaned up a good bit. Putting the kibosh on some of the endless sales threads is worth it. The newbie is not going to sell right off the bat anyway. Even the few that have come in here with a fully formed background. Most newbies wont sell in any quantity immediately, so all of this is now more honest.

If I had more information when I began, it would have made no difference, would have been information overload.

maybe its just more confusing because it is used randomly. a new person wants to know about selling, its not used. a person has a question about something not related to selling and its used. every time i expect to see it, its not there. (sorry i don't have a live example)

Jeff you can just go back to any sales thread you already posted in, the existing posts with your sales/month keep up to date.

Thank you VIVA for finding the transparency thread. I could not find it for the life of me. I thought it had been removed.

As far as I am concerned the info in there is the ONLY worthwhile info that has total credibility. Sean is the ONLY one that knows how the system works. The rest of us are only guessing based on our own experiences and then assigning that to how we think the search works, or how we think the ratings are compiled or other aspects. When in reality there is NO credible data available us to make what we are saying (guessing) has any real value.

There is a lot of good information in that thread and it seems to me it would be a good idea to reread it from time to time.

LIke this one:

Here's how the average monthly sales volume is calculated. Our code adds up the total number of items that you've sold in the past twelve months and then divides it by 12. The average will look something like this:

"8 Sales / Month"

It's not a financial disclosure (i.e. a dollar amount). It's just a count of how many products you sell, on average, in a given month. Note - it does not count products that you purchase for yourself.

... lost myself and offered something. What was I thinking?

aaaaaannnnnnddddddddd....here my answer from Abbie

"Besides, I rarely use it. Until people remind me it's there."

I figured it was a new, enforced rule.....or one that is no longer being used.
As it turns out, it is up to Abbie, to use it or not.
My question has been answered, so there's no point in belaboring the issue.
