What Was Your Greatest Artistic Accomplishment Of 2018?

Now that we are getting close to the end of the year, I thought it might be nice if we could celebrate some of our artistic accomplishments of 2018.

I guess I should start.

Earlier this year, I placed first in a travel photography contest with this image of a Hawaiian sunset.

The prize was a one-week all expenses paid trip for two (including airfare) to anywhere I wanted to go in the Caribbean. I ended up going to the Dominican Republic with my wife.

As we are sitting on the beach in the DR, my wife turns to me and says "this photography thing of yours is not too bad". Priceless....

I still haven'e sold this print on FAA. I guess "Hawaiian Sunset" is a popular term. Maybe one day...

Yes congrats! Free vacation yeah!!!

Well my greatest accomplishment of 2018 was not nearly as exciting as a free expense paid trip but it was a great accomplishment on a different level. Every completed artwork becomes my last greatest accomplishment until the next one comes along, the reason it's great is because I'm alive and creating and that is hard to top.

This series of 3 sculptures was created using a new patina process I customized using cooking spices to achieve this rusted iron/metal look and was my last creation and my greatest for 2018 that is.......... (until the next one).

Here is a sample of one of the series. This one is titled "Mujer de Hierro" or "Woman of Iron".

To answer the question, a lot of good things have happened this year artistically but nothing I would call earthshaking. Today I found out one of my paintings got into Imperial Valley College's collection.

Congratulations Miles! That's fantastic!

My greatest accomplishment this year was winning the "Lahaina 2019 Poster Contest". It came with a $3,000 prize and 1000 prints made of my work. The debut and reception is this Friday if any of you would like to come. It's at the Banyan Tree Gallery in Lahaina Maui. Here's a link to the website that shows my poster ( Lahaina 2019) and many of the past winners. https://visitlahaina.com/product-category/posters/

Thanks everyone for the congrats.

Mario - love the patina. It looks awesome.

Ron - that's a great milestone to have your work accepted by a college.

Darice - to reiterate Ron - so cool!

These works were published here first in June this year. I consider them an accomplishment. The primary accomplishment is moving style to style though out the collection.

Caribbean vacay, I'd take that! Congratulations!

My greatest artistic achievement was developing a whole new body of work focused on cats and dogs. And I'm loving it.

I self-published some 10 books of my photographs, poems, short stories.

Congratulations everyone on your achievements! My artistic achievement for 2018 was to keep my resolution to create at least one traditional media piece every week of the year. The year isn't quite over yet but I am ahead of the goal of 52 artworks so I feel I've accomplished it. I guess I'll have to try again next year as well.

My greatest accomplishment repeats itself every time someone purchases and image that I've worked on. A continuing surprise.

Great image Miles! Congratulations. In 2018 I mounted an exhibit of my bird photography for my local library, I developed a presentation for my camera club on abstract and still life photography, placed in several FAA contests, won a couple best of shows for my camera club competitions, and uploaded my 1000th image on FAA. But the accomplishment I am most proud of was having one of my images win runner-up in the Friends of the Fox River photo contest. The FOFR advocates for the well being of this imortant waterway in northern Illinois USA. My image along with another I submitted is in their 2019 calendar. I will be honored at their January meeting and presented with several prize items.

GREAT GOING MILES,

A photographer from the cold of Canada, winning a trip to tropical Caribbean with a fabulous photo he took in tropical Hawaii...How great is that??

As with me,..my artistic accomplishment this year is...

Getting this 83 (82 at the time) body up, after falling flat on it's back, causing a hairline fracture in tailbone and broken dominate arm at the wrist, and getting back to creating art.

It's all a matter of commitment

Good for you Roger! Don't quit and keep posting in these threads. I always enjoy your comments. Hope you are not in too much pain or discomfort.

Wow, congratulations to everyone!

My biggest accomplishment is slightly different: I am no longer creating pieces that are full of anger, despair and sadness.

I have been sad and broken for too long, but thankfully, after almost 5 years of therapy and the support of my family and the artistic community (here and elsewhere), I am being able to finally put pieces out there that yes, they might be a bit niche-ish (if I think about my glitch art pieces or my mandalas), or perhaps even childish, but surely far more joyful and truer to myself.

(I still have a looooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooong way to go, though.)

My greatest accomplishment this year was in getting my photography published in every issue of Our Iowa Magazine with the cover of the summer issue. This is also the year I paid for all my gear. Been a great year.

A 180º artistic change of direction. Actually, 180º is too melodramatic, but it was pretty big. It resulted in a refreshed creative excitement, and feeling like I'd found a far more viable, truer, more interesting direction.

Wonderful inspirational accomplishments everyone! Congratulations!

I have several achievements this year, as it was a year for rethinking and rebuilding my photography business which for now turned to be a complex of
photography, digital art and acrylic paintings (including selling originals).
This year finalizing with better sales result on FAA for the last 3 years - but not yet got the result which I achieved 4 years ago )))
Learnt to be consistent with marketing especially Instagram -for me its actually the hardest part to be consistent )) and seems its paying off
The sale of my first ever original acrylic painting.

Another great insight I've got that i want finally to get specialization and its turned to be a professional garden photography.
I signed with 2 garden photography licensing sites and also 1 art licensing agency.
So my main intention for next year will be going deep with licensing and garden RM sites.
Still will remain the selling fine art/ products on art sites which this year I expand for 2 more sites - now in total Im working with 5 art platforms.
And will be continue with acrylic paintings creating and selling.

Restarting the "Artistic Merit Award". It brings me delight each time a new recipient is named.
