Link Above One Of My Images Says...

It say derby wharf images but when I click on it to see what other images show up in that category (there are a fair number as I know)... but when I click it I get dollar derby art...
Thoughts? Problem or feature? Why or why not?

These keyword search term idiosyncrasies have been gone over loads of times.

The only way to get over it is to test, test and test some more; then change course and test again.

Of course, it often means waiting a day or two to see the test results.

I seldom look at the search but for some reason I did today and find it totally frustrating. If you type in a search term so many images come up that have nothing to do with the search words.

I can't answer your question but can only wonder what our customers feel when searching for something.

It's not like derby wharf artwork isn't a real category on the site because on my work computer it does come up (on pixels site) with a lot of images by Toby who is killing it on his keywords... I have to figure out what I doing wrong but that is a whole other discussion.

Val, the keywords are totally on the artist. If you put in scenic California but you image is Boston, then the person that sees it will get frustrated. But it's the artist that chooses keywords.

This conversation is more about clicking on a clear category and Pixels gives you a whole different category.
But hey I can talk about most anything.

Its just a curiosity to talk about since I'm sitting at work in the call center waiting for people to order bibles or books...

I presume you mean this image, Jeff.

Mouse over the tags and if you don't like the look of where they go, drop the tags, change the tags and try again.

This often happens when there are a number of repeat tags which, in all honesty, are redundant anyway.

I had a notepad full of all these dud keyword phrases and links to other keyword threads trying to sort out the problems.

As soon as we put in a workaround, something else changes and once again nothing works as we think it should.

You don't really want people to click on your tags to find other people's pictures, you want buyers to click on other people's tags to find your pictures.

But I'll let you figure that one out.

I've given away too many 'secrets' already.

I believe some people sell courses online for this sort of information.

A few of these might twist my arm though; or get me flat on my back.

By the way, I've figured your derby wharf problem out. Also, I don't think putting # in your keywords is doing any good.

Well Michael, that is a good example. You click on the derby wharf link above the image and you would think it would talk the viaitor to all derby wharf images (about 5 pages)

I would submit it to Abby but this a small issue and I'm sure Sean and the coder have real problems to work on

Sorry, I'm on my phone so you are typing faster plus I have to talk to customers once in a while. I wasn't sure if the # was any good for searches on the internet... but to repay the info... (don't know how good this is) but I see more of my images come up on my Visitaphotogrpahy site than my pixels/FAA/Vistaphotography.pixels.com websites... is this a coincidence or what.... nah the # is across all the sites... but I usually only share my AW so the bit about leading people away only applies to those not following my links and coming in on another search.

I searched for a state and got images from a frequent visitor on this forum that had nothing to do with the state I was searching for. And I did not see it in the tags of the images either. Hard to be found if search leads you astray.

Yes BP, but there could be tags that not being shown to you that are there. It all depends on the circumstances. If the artist has bad keywords then if caught CS will spank them.
If the site has a link that leads the visitor to a way different page of images like my example (derby wharf images vs Roller Derby images). That is on the website purely.

Jeff - it reflects the same thing that a visitor would find on your pixels site:

https://vistaphotography.pixels.com/featured/seasmoke-at-salem-lighthouse-jeff-folger.html

So there I click on Derby Wharf at the top and land on a page that says Roller Derby and there are no matches.

The keywords down on the right side are similarly going to non-matching keywords. Salem Lighthouse goes to Marblehead Lighthouse, etc.

If I was a customer, it wouldn't give a lot of confidence in ordering from your site (or this one for that matter) which would seem rather buggy.

:-(

Not saying it would stop anyone from buying just saying I hate to give one customer on the fence a reason to back out. Ah well...

The search does odd things. I used to blame artists for spamming keywords but now I realize I can't assume they are spamming. Some of my images come up that shouldn't in search, I know for a fact since it's my image that the keyword is not there yet the image came up in a search. I bet buyers get real frustrated.

David, can you give me an example.

Not through the (often useless) tags people click on, but on real words typed into search.

None come to mind at the moment, it's been a couple weeks since I've played with search and I didn't note down the images or search terms, it was just something I noticed.
