Nikolyn: This is the way I do it (and the way I suggest in my Pinterest Course): First I pin the Yoga Mat from my Artist Website (because I can use Google Analytics with the AW) to one of my own boards (I created one for the Yoga Mats). Then I wait a day or so and repin it from there to the Yoga Mat Group Board.

Sorry for shouting but I learned one thing since I'm on FAA: people don't read ;-) I participate in lots of group boards and I watch them closely. I created a Yoga Mat board earlier today and pinned some mats to it. So in a day or so, I will be able to repin something from that board to the Yoga Mat Group Board? This is my first group board, so I don't really know what to look for or where to look for it.

You can repin them today if you want, I just do this because it enhances the chance for the pin to get seen -- and it can look a little bit spammy if we repin the same pin multiple times a day ;-)

The most important thing when pinning to a Group Board is to read the rules first.

I don't know HOW to repin to a group board. I did a search on it and found some good information on group board etiquette - plus mention that once a owner had accepted me (which you have), the group would "appear in my account". But . . . where is my account?

@Nikolyn: yes, it can be confusing but this is just lingo :-) Pinterest changed the wording some time ago but the "old" pinners still say "pin" and "repin" instead of "save". Repinning means saving an existing Pin to another board. Just use the "save" button and choose the group board as destination. It should show up in your board list.

When I went to pin to the group board this morning, I discovered that I was getting NO message indicating that I'd already pinned something. I depend on this pop-up to keep me from duplicating a pin on one of my personal boards and was thinking I would have it to help me keep track of the group board pins, too. Does anyone know what's going on?

For now I made a good old-fashioned paper and pencil list that I plan to cross things off of as I go, but that is VERY cumbersome and will get old quite soon. Of course I would not have this problem if I only pinned to both boards at one time - i.e. to my own board and then from there immediately to the group board. But I don't have time to mess around with this every day. I thought I'd get ahead a bit on my own board while I had time, and then I could do a quick pin or two from there to the group board on days when I was really busy.

Matthias, I have a question about pinning others yoga mats to my board. Since I pinned five of my mats yesterday to the group board, I pinned five yoga mats by others onto my board. Is this to be an "equal" pinning, or is one pin to my five sufficient?

Nikolyn: you are right, it can get cumbersome, especially when you pin to multiple group boards. First I used a Spreadsheet, now I mostly use Tailwind (a scheduler tool) for this. Of course you can repin to all boards at the same time. The chance to get every pin seen might decrease and if someone visits your profile it might look a bit spammy but I know quite some people that do it this way. Unfortunately the Pinterest messages (you already pinned to this group board) are not really helpful as they pick only one of the boards (more or less random).

SharaLee: five for five would be great but as some artists don't repin at all I will be satisfied with one or two for five at the moment ;-) But I will kick out artists that do not repin after some time.

Jean: you will find the invite in your mail (as Nikki wrote) and / or in your Pinterest notifications. Another way is to just go to the board, you should have a message in the upper part of the screen then.

I am seeing lots of duplicate mats on the group board, several of them mine. At first I thought I'd goofed and posted one thing twice. I deleted duplicates. Now I have several pairs again - and others have "pairs", too. Since there aren't that many pins on the board yet, it's really obvious to me. What is causing this? Are other people repinning something of mine right back to the group board instead of to their own board?

Nikki: looks like some artists are repinning to the same board... This makes no sense. One example: you repinned a pin (from SharaLee) from the Yoga Mat group board to same the Yoga Mat group board :-) As this works it looks strange to have the same pin "back to back" in the same board.

Lesa: I would recommend to pull up the yoga mat image and then save this image (with a description of the yoga mat) to Pinterest. Either to one of your own boards first (and then repin it some time later to the group board) or -- if you want -- directly into the Yoga Mat group board.

Here is an example:

I decided to repin one of Nikkis pins in the Yoga Mat Group Board to one of my own boards. So I clicked on her pin in the group board to make it big, then I clicked on the "Save" symbol in the upper right corner. I scrolled down the board list on the right side and selected my board ("Other Artists - Inspiration"). As soon as I click (tap) on the board name the repin is done.

Please note: the boards above and below are group boards (there is a symbol with two gray people).

Thanks for catching that, Matthias, and for figuring out what is happening. I'm not sure how I did that with Shari's as I thought I was watching pretty closely.

But I can see how it could happen with my own (or for other artists with THEIR own). Everyone is creating a personal board called "Yoga Mats". The group board is called "Yoga Mats by Fine Art America Artists" (naturally!) but most of the title is truncated so you can't see much more than "Yoga Mats". And each of us is creating our own personal board called, oddly enough, "Yoga Mats" or even "Yoga Mats by Fine art America Artists" :)

And as I said, apparently when you pin to a group board you are a member of, you don't get any indication of that from Pinterest (which I was expecting since I get one when I pin to two or more of my own personal boards). So it's really really easy to pin from your own personal board to the group board more than once.

I've created a list to keep me straight, at least for awhile, and I think I'll just do one or two pins a day to the group board so I can keep track better.

Hi Yuri, you are doing nothing wrong. This is a Pinterest glitch, happens from time to time. Sometimes the picture appears after some minutes or even hours. If not I usually pin / repin it again and delete the empty one.

I know Julie Weber has brought this up before, but something Abbie wrote in another thread today concerns me:

You stress that yoga mats should be vertical. Virtually no one has a horizontal image that is 7200 on the short side . . . which it would apparently need to be for an acceptable quality mat with a "slice" taken out of it to give a vertical. Personally, I think the customizing tools provided by FAA should NOT ALLOW us or the buyer to orient an image such that the result is unprintable, but apparently they do. What am I missing here?

Yes, I've been very aware of this and was hoping that there would eventually be some more guidance from above.

I have been custom turning images to vertical orientation and uploading them to the yoga mat product.
Another variation I've used is either doing a mirror image or a variation of mirroring, thus doubling the size of the image.

I've been looking at other artist's mats and notice that some are using images that have quite low pixel dimensions. Since so many people are doing it and seem not to be stressed about it, I thought I'd wait a bit longer before asking more questions. And, agreed, no one has 7200 on the small side and even if we orient the long side to match the long side on the mat, the buyer can still change it and stretch the short side that has the smaller pixel dimension. I'm with you about needing to have the customization tools that restrict such a move.

I always use the edit feature to add my descriptions. Did two this morning as usual . . . no problems. Went to do a third and, no matter what I did to change the content, I kept getting this message: "Sorry! We blocked this link because it's a redirector and may lead to inappropriate content." I mean even when I reduced the message to a single letter I got it.

Anyone else having (or ever have) this problem at Pinterest today?

Hi Nikki, not up to now. The message indicates that they see a problem with the link (the place where you pinned the image from). Which is strange because I assume you pinned all three from FAA, Pixels or your AW? Did the third pin work without any description?

They do not want us to use URL shorteners like Bit.ly etc

I just went in and deleted the pin and tried it again. Same problem. I'm busy with other things now, but I'll try a completely different image later when I have time to do it properly and report back.

Hi Nikki, just did a little research and this is what I found: "There appears to be a widespread glitch of people's accounts being blocked for a 'redirector'. Email Pinterest if you see this on your account, immediately."

Unfortunately it seems that not only accounts are blocked but also complete sites. But as you only had one pin affected I would just wait and see. Or contact Pinterest support if the problem does not go away, it's always good to let them know when things are going wrong...

Hi Nikki, I'm pretty sure this was just one of their glitches. Maybe we should just be happy they did not block the whole .pixels.com website... The majority of my AW sales is coming from Pinterest, this is why I love this place so much.

Why?

Mainly because the repin rule does not really work on this board. Many of the contributors are following the repin rule but others don't.

I have years of experience with Pinterest and believe me, I know what I do. Well, most of the time LOL Group boards with lots of repins are way more successful than ghost towns where everyone pins dozens of her / his own work and then runs away.

Sorry again but I just don't have the time to regularly police all my group boards so I will not accept any new contributors for this board.

If the existing contributors don't play by the rules I will delete this board. Thank you for unterstanding.
