I think it's supply and demand. A lot less people making custom knives than selling photos. Nice knife by the way.

I'm afraid of knives but I have to say, that's a beauty.

But we can't allow how we primarily earn a living to define us, now can we? That would make me a jeweler/photographer/artist.

Nice Knife.

I am a HUGE knife fan and collector.

Do you have a site for your knives I could look at?

That is one sweet looking knife - I'm with JC on this one - do you have a knife site? Have you ever made one from a file?

While not a knife person, the craftsmanship is admirable. I found his knives with a pretty quick google search: http://www.gllangley.com/p526809725#h88fd248f

In my case that would make me a mechanical designer...that's it.

Very impressive knife work.

IMO, it's not a bad thing at all that you are doing better with your knives than the photography. I'd love to have something creative to do that I could make at such a fine level and that other's appreciated enough to seek you out, that's gotta make you feel good. I knew someone that did the same thing, but also silverware, he'd have customers that would commission whole sets, far from cheap but he was in demand. I've noticed artists/artisans that do both 2D visual art and a 3D ornate/useful items usually do better with the 3D, in fact I know a very skilled painter/jewelry maker that got so frustrated trying to get a good price for her paintings anymore that she gave up painting and only does jewelry now.

Beautiful knife!!
If I could I'd make those all day long!

As, said above, that's not a bad thing to be making a better living from your hand craft.

I used to a photographer first then auto mechanic and lastly Dutch oven lifter, seller, now its Dutch oven lifters, photographer, and the auto mechanics is gone...except I did help my son with his car yesterday :-)

There's a story about the World's Fair.

The Krupp steelworks contributed a cannon. A really nice one, and very big.

Other manufacturers contributed cutting edge farm equipment, all kinds of stuff that could be used to improve agriculture and would improve the quality of life in a world at peace. Guess what drew the crowds.

Human nature hasn't changed. At all.

Cheryl - which worlds fair was that? And where are World's Fair's usually held - large cities - not a lot of farmers goin to the worlds fair - and if it were near a time of war (which is just about all the time) yep - that canon would draw attention.

Also, everybody understands a canon, it's a very simple concept, only people in the agriculture industry understand agricultural equipment.. or find it interesting.

Knives like any other tool are utilitarian. There is a gigantic difference between most crafts and the so called fine arts I think. Therefore almost any craft will out sell art because it has both artistic beauty and in your case cutting utility.

Cheryl,

You are absolutely right.

Gary,

Glad you are making a living somehow, the knives are very well crafted. Hope you are not permanently housebound.

Dave
