Hi Xueling...I saw my first white hummingbird just a couple of months ago! Mine is not an albino...but, a luecistic. (Mine did not have the pink eyes.) It was a very rare sighting, though...as I have hundreds of them in my yard and this is the first one of it's kind that I have ever seen!

Lynn, The one I captured was a luecistic too :)!

These are gorgeous ! I have never seen a white one - see lots where I live.
I found this link about hummingbirds in Maine ( with a white one)

Thanks! It was very challenging to capture any birds, my equipment was limited, a 250mm "longest" lenses and no tripod. But I enjoyed watching the white hummingbird, and found a couple of OK captures :D!
Here is the link about white hummingbird.

Amazing... I have a flock of ruby throated hummingbirds that frequent my property every summer, I did not know there was white ones..... I love those birds

Very cool, Xueling!! Mine stayed at our house for about 3 weeks! I was hoping it would stay for the season...but, every day that I got up and saw it at the feeders was very exciting! There is a slight chance that if ours was a female, it may be nesting right now. But with almost no markings, it's hard to know what kind it was...much less whether it is a male or female! A couple of years ago we had a pied hummingbird...part normal colors with patches of white mixed in!

Thanks everyone. @Lynn, I am jealous there are so many hummingbirds at your backyard, including the white one :).
I am very lucky that I have hummingbirds' neighbors, but no white ones. I wrote some stories about the hummingbird nesting if anyone is interested. I am hoping another hummingbird nesting near one of my windows or at my backyard this spring again :).

Well, I've never found a nest...so, you're one up on me, Xueling!! I do keep hoping for one, though! :-)

I love this thread, motivates me to plant those plants that attract hummingbirds. Very cool.

Stunning! The hummingbird is my country's National Bird but I have yet to see a white hummingbird.

Xueling, your shots are not only beautifully composed, they are nice and sharp! I'd be tickled to death to get such a beautiful, clear capture!
There's an old stone meat smoker outside my bedroom window that's covered with spider webs. Anna's come there every year to collect strands of webbing to line their nests. It's cool to see them fly off to the woods trailing streamers.

Beautiful, never knew white hummingbirds existed! Your local press might be interested in publishing about this, no harm in asking!

Brian, your image was fun too :)!
Lynn, I understand that the nest of hummingbird's is tiny, not easy to find and see...

Thanks Xueling. I coincidentally came across a PBS program last night on hummingbirds. I didn't watch the entire program but it showed them building nests, and doing battle with other hummingbirds which was something else I had never seen before. As Kathleen said, they do indeed use spider webs to layer their little nests.

Lisa, you are right, I did plant some flowers hummingbirds love, I don't like using feeders to attract them :)

Wow. I've never seen a white hummer - Fantastic!
Xueling. What did you do with the hummer after you captured it?

Jim, thanks! I guess I should use "shoot" instead of "capture", right?

Kathleen, Thanks! I've learned that hummingbird is very smart, she "borrows" other material to build her nest :)

I found a hummingbird nest on the ground in my yard (luckily the young had already left the nest). It appeared to be made up mostly of spider webbing and was very soft and flexible.

I feel very upset there are still so many not naturally died precious animals :(...

I'm so jealous of all you people who have humming birds in your yards and gardens. None in NZ I'm afraid. I've only ever seen two, briefly in Brazil, and no chance of getting a photo. They are magical little creatures, and the white ones remind me of fairies. Thanks for sharing your photos Xueling Zou and Lynn Bauer.

@James, Thanks for your great suggestion. Actually, there are many people have seen this white hummingbird and taken photos.
Thank you for all the compliment :). Have a lovely weekend, everyone :)!

Nareeta, Glad you like my white hummingbird's photos. It takes me long enough to start enjoying the beauties of California. I bet there are many nice things you know about your location too :)!

I watched the hummingbird program on KQED last night, have learned there are about 300 different types of hummingbirds, most of them live in the South America. And only 17 species can make to the North America, fascinated :)!

Incredibly sweet Xueling. I would love to see one in person, glad you had the chance to observe and capture such a rare sight.

Wow, Xueling, those really are great shots and sharp. I think they are better than "ok". I have not seen any hummingbirds around here (lower Michigan), but I used to enjoy seeing them at a feeder outside a restaurant in Mariposa California on each of our three trips to Yosemite. Some of them were very "pushy" and harassed the others who were trying to feed. Tiny and feisty...but oh so cute.

Wow, talk about being in the perfect place at the perfect time, there must have been an angel looking over your shoulder.
I've never seen a white hummingbird, extraordinary!
Cheers, Barbara

Xueling, a white hummer must be a good omen and to get such a good photo.
I have hummers all year but have never seen a white one.
I created a hummer garden starting 15 years ago. They love salvia. I have Salvia greggi which flowers all year and keeps them around. I think they eat insects off trees at times also.
I don’t put out any feeders. They love my pomegranate flowers and Dessert willow tree flowers that keep them supplied also. They also like the Mexican sage and Aloe blooms. Also all are drought tolerant.

Jim, Thank you for sharing the info! I've planted some plants hummingbirds love too, and I don’t put out any feeders either. There were a couple times they built nests outside my window, so I got chances to watch how hummingbird mothers raised their babies, very lucky :)!

Xueling, what an amazing capture!!! It is always exciting when an individual discovers a marvel of nature and amazes all around the world!!! It is known any unique oddity of a animal or bird in nature such as albino's scientist confirmed most of those creatures which have markings or colorization in the wild they are vulnerable to other species which are predators and in most instance stand no change of maturing..... The amazing find years back right here in Louisiana a hunter came upon an all white alligator which made world wide attention and featured at the New Orleans Audubon Zoological and Primate Center. Thanks so much for sharing and how exciting for you!!!
I absolutely appreciate the discussions here at Fine Art America when we are able to read member news such as this!!!! I enjoyed viewing all the other members images of their white hummingbirds, sensational!!!
Cheers from New Orleans, Michael Hoard
