This is a capture of a guy fishing from his kayak on an early autumn morning just before the sun started to come up. The lake was still somewhat warm and with the cool morning air, the lake was fogged over. I took this at Lake Springfield in Springfield Missouri area. There is a color or black and white options.

It is February 1st, 2018... and this is my very first upload for the month! This is a self portrait of my toes and feet as I am soaking in the tub in my newly renovated bath! Such an amazing relaxing retreat. I have a glass of wine and a candle which are not showing in this photo, but all adds to the true meaning of R&R

The Gritty Lone Cypress Tree
This is a print of one of my painting commissions recently. It was a Christmas gift from the children to their Mom. "The Lone Cypress" stands along the famously scenic 17 mile drive along the coast. It may very well be 250 + years old & the most photographed tree in North America. It sits alongside one of the world's most beautiful and expensive golf courses at Pebblebeach. A number of years ago, we were staying in Monterey, CA working on our way to my son's wedding at Ventana near Big Sur, I had to stop to see this magnificent view. If you've never been there or near there, you must go.

We took a couple of days off and went to the Mountains of North Carolina - the wife wanted to see snow. There was snow, but not as she would like to have seen - just a dusting in most places in the shadows that weren't touched by the sun. The Blue Ridge Parkway was closed as was the New Found Gap route across the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. We saw lots of icicles, a few over 3 feet long, but most were like some monster teeth and under a foot and a half. It took a day to get there, a day to go see what there was, and though hemmed in as we were by road closures we had a busy full day. Our last stop of the day, as the sun was setting over the mountains, in the last light of the day we went to the Oconaluftee Visitor Mountain Farm Museum, not to see the buildings - but the elk that come every evening to browse the large open field. And they came - although we saw only one young buck, there were plenty of does that came up out of the river and wandered through, between the buildings. Totally unafraid they seemed, led by a large matriarch. Parking at the visitor center we wandered down to the buildings that had been moved to this location to create this Mountain Farm Museum. The Davis/Queen house is a beautiful example of how folks built their sturdy homes from hand sawn logs. Besides the elk, there were quite a few bluebirds that were flitting about from the trees to the old gourds hung to entice Purple Martins to nest. Here are two photographs of the old house and one of my blue birds:

"When All Else Fails" ... go hug a dog.
This one started out as the whole doggie ... but got cropped down. I may still send the full doggie version out into the universe at some time. It's a classic example of what a maltese looks like when it rolls around on the carpet on a low-humidity winter's day ... static-electricity-hair.
loosely based on one of my own photos, of course.

My uploads today are form the Springfield and Ozark Missouri area.
This was a beautiful Autumn morning on Springfield Lake. The sun was raising behind me giving an orange glow to everything. Just a hint of fog was still lingering over the lake.
This is a winter snow scene capture I took at Finley River in Ozark. I spotted this boulder sticking out over the water and found it interesting. It was right on the edge and the river was low so I was able to get right under it.

The Schooner SULTANA
SULTANA is a reproduction of a Boston-built merchant vessel that served for four years as the smallest schooner ever in the British Royal Navy. Manned by a 25-person crew, the original SULTANA patrolled the coastline of colonial North America from 1768 to 1772 enforcing the hated Townsend Acts or “Tea Taxes.” From this vantage point SULTANA and her crew had a unique perspective on the conflict that would ultimately become the American Revolution.
A key factor that led to SULTANA’s selection for replication was the wealth of primary documentation from the original vessel that was preserved by the British Navy. SULTANA’s reproduction is based directly on a 1768 Royal Navy survey of the original schooner, making it one of the most accurate 18th century replicas in the world today. In addition to these drawings, the Royal Navy also preserved more than 2,000 pages of the vessel’s log books, correspondence, and crew lists. These documents have proved to be an incredible resource for the schooner’s educational programs.
The construction of SULTANA would not have been possible without the inspiration of Master Shipwright John Swain and the 200,000+ hours of labor provided by the scores of volunteer shipwrights who aided with her construction.

The Morey Mansion is a Victorian style house that was built in 1890. It is located in Redlands, California.
It has a history that includes being owned by actress Carole Lombard's uncle. He reportedly left it to her in his will but she passed away before she could take ownership. Previous owners were linked to the family of the founders of the Kimberly-Clarke Corporation.

Viewing a 3D stereo crossview format, is similar to the old "Magic Eye" images if you're familiar with viewing those. With the 3D stereo crossview, make sure the entire side-by-side image is within view. Then gently converge (cross) your eyes and focus on the middle image that appears while ignoring the outside.
Not everyone is successful with this free-viewing method but if you are, it becomes easier each time and eventually second nature.

This will be a single fine art sale – as soon as the image is sold i´ll take it down for quite some time (we´re talking months, most likely longer, not weeks if it ever comes back at all) so this is a rare opportunity to purchase it, for it will in fact become a very limited Edition only very few will ever get their hands on.

Most everyone enjoys sharing destinations we all cherish. Thing is, describing something that everyone should experience can't ever be the same; so my suggestion to you, is go there and feel it yourselves. We are so blessed by the people that have worked long and hard to maintain these places as part of our great heritage.

Sometimes at sunset we don't have space for its beauty.. That happens when you feel a power of the Sun...
I had that feeling at that December night at an ocean shore in California. Sun was so intense and penetrating … and a contrast between this white hot Sun and a clear but dark red sky around just enforced the feeling that our Sun is the source of energy, life and colors all around ...

Flambeau Carriers at the night time Lundi Gras Parade Orpheus. The Orpheus parade organized by local TV, singer, musician Harry Connick, Jr. These marchers walk in front of the floats. Years past they would walk along side of the paper and wooden floats to illuminate this practice was discontinued for safety concerns. Lundi Gras is Monday the day before Mardi Gras. Mardi Gras tomorrow ends at 12 am, the famous party ends and preparations begin for next years celebration of Mardi Gras in New Orleans.
Fuel for the torches are in the metal cans filled with kerosene flows down copper tubes and flow into the burners. On the wooden sticks a medal reflector is secured to reflect the pathway of the parade. These traditional torches made of wood and medal date back to the mid 1800's are preserved and locked up in warehouse for the use the following year. The carriers dance and parade through the streets are paid by the parade organization and revelers toss and hand money for their hard labor while marching in the parades. A unique and traditional custom of Mardi Gras!!!

I visit the local hiking trail quite often. We had quite a bit of snow last week, so I shot these thorny twigs on a day with no sunsine on top of pristine snow, and I shot the trees the next day on a very sunny day, thus the shadows. There had been a slight amount of rain between these two trips, so trudging through 12 inches of snow with an ice coating was a bit of a workout.

Seldom are there ever people in my photographs, If they are there I usually clone them out. But this young, fresh faced young man, a reenactor for the Battle of Olustee, the only 'major' battle fought in Florida during the Civil War, was standing pretty much at ease with the American Flag, he was listening to the advice of the old soldier as they waited for the parade in Lake City, Columbia County to begin. It evokes memories of all the young men going off to Vietnam - who had no idea what they were headed for.

This image being in the vertical format and "color select", hopefully helps set it apart from other similar sunset compositions. I made an all grayscale version but I happen to believe personally, that all sunsets should be in color otherwise the main attribute of a sunset is wasted.
