This presentation will prove that Tom was indeed a “Weatherman” through the application of the art of “CSI” otherwise known as “Creative Scene Investigation”. CSI is the application of forensic meteorology as well as other forensic sciences, to creative works. The deductions sleuthed from the details which are plainly hidden within the art, can be pretty revealing. The motivation behind the creation of the art is discovered. Although these motivations were not secret at the time of the painting, they are unknown and unintelligible to those who are not versed in CSI and forensic meteorology. An analogy would be to ask someone to explain the inscriptions on the walls of a pharaoh’s tomb. The hieroglyphics were not written in any secret code but they are certainly undecipherable in today’s society unless one knows the language.
Tom was a remarkable observer of the natural world. The hidden agenda in this presentation is to celebrate the genius of Tom Thomson as an artist through the weather that inspired him. The tragedy is that he died well before his time, still climbing toward even greater expressions of the natural world.
