'At Home in my Tree' from my Florida Birds Collection. A magnificent Great Horned Owl high in a pine tree on the Melbourne campus of Eastern State Florida College. He was intently watching my every move and making sure I was staying away from the owlets tucked in a nearby oak.

After a day of taking pictures with my camera club, we were all invited back to a fellow member's house for dinner. This lovely #swan was one of three that lived in her lake. She also had a magnificent koi pond. #wildlife #nature #birds.

I love this little gold bird!~ However, I've only now found out why there are soooo many petals on the floor around this potted cone flower!~ The American goldfinch (Spinus tristis), also known as the Eastern Goldfinch, is a small North American bird in the finch family. I took up the challenge to paint a scene with the painting going off the page on all four sides, yet retaining 60% of the white paper. I felt good about the results that occurred. This painting retained freshness and I can mentally feel the sun reflection and warmth on the water at that moment in time. The egrets add life and also a feeling of patience to this moment of time when the sky and lake reflects as if on fire.

Love The Dove! September is the season for the Georgia Dove, and these lovelies can be seen EVERYWHERE! It's also the start of hunting.. I guess there is a regulated balance... Here is the story of the beautiful "Mourning Dove."

The Mourning Dove (Zenaida macroura) nests in all 48 contiguous states. In the southern states, the year-round resident dove population is joined each fall by northern migrants. Mourning Dove The ever-present dove is Georgia's most popular and numerous game bird. It is hunted by more Georgians than any game species except deer, and the dove harvest is by far the highest of any species in the state. This bird's popularity does not stop with the hunter, since it also is a favorite of bird watchers and nature photographers.

A male Anna's hummingbird (Calypte anna) makes a Good Friday visit to the backyard garden during Easter Weekend in March 2016.

Anna's hummingbird is the only hummer in North America with the male having an all-red head of feathers when the sunlight refracts off of them at just the right angle. Female Anna's hummers have a green crown and exhibit some vibrant colors in their gorget throat feathers, as seen in the other hummingbird images in my gallery.

The iridescence of hummingbirds is considered by researchers to be among the most vibrant among birds. The head and gorget feathers showing hues of red and magenta in this photo appear velvety black at other times, depending on the light and angle of the bird to the viewer.
