I have this totally hypothetical question, which I would love to know your response.
You have been offered, by a verified, well known entity. that they would create a nation wide campaign, touting your work, with No Strings Attached on your part
EXCEPT ONE
You have to personally be physically there, when the announcement is made.
How would you react?

I'd be real suspicious of their motives. I doubt I would want to go, they would want to ask me questions etc, I hate people in general. Not sure why I can't be anonymous.

well i think you don't need to be sherlock holmes to work this out, they will do this to multiple people have them arrive to an auditorium where, they have sold tickets to people and or managed to secure sponsorship, nobody works for nothing, you being there is key otherwise there is no event..... plus the event might be a long distance, you pay for travel hotels etc etc its a lose lose situation

"well i think you don't need to be sherlock holmes to work this out, they will do this to multiple people have them arrive to an auditorium ..."
... where they will try to sell a time-share to everybody.
It's a scam. If the item of sales interest is your art, it will sell or not sell regardless of your presence. Ask yourself, am I being sold or is my ART being sold? If your answer is the latter, it is obvious they just want to get another warm body in the auditorium to market God knows what scam.
If you decide to go, please let us know what transpired - even if you are embarrassed.

Actually, I expect that to happen sometime in the not-to-far-off future... Maybe in a couple of years, when I'm nearer to being 100 years old.
That's why, four days ago, I began getting outside and walking longer distances, now that the world is a safer place health-wise.
However, I'm thinking world-wide, not just a nation wide-campaign. 😎

Let's say that it's a product line, that you happen to believe in, that wants to improve their bottom line, by sponsoring, individual, alive artists.. (That of course includes photographers)

If I was confident enough to be there, I wouldn't need a rep. I would maybe have my picture up, but due to a stroke I can't actually go there in person. Or due to a car accident. Or alien encounter, I can't be there in person.

I guess, I think I would weigh it out. See exactly what is expected of me, what will be my costs and what would be my benefits. If it is just for exposure, I would probably pass on it, but if there were actual sales that outweigh the costs, by a significant margin, then I would consider it (after throughly vetting it/them)

When you say you would have to be "there" - it would totally depend on where "there" is.

As for me, when in my forties, back in the 1970's. in those early years of my "Vulture Enterprise",....
I would anything to tout my art.
As the years went on, getting Out and personally peddling my art, became not only my job, but my Life!.
Much of the time in costume.
I loved it too much, to have it possibly jeopardized by bringing anyone else into my particular enterprise.
So, if I was offered that opportunity, during those fulfilling and truly enjoyable years, there would have been a good chance that I would have demurred.
Now, in my late eighties, I'm no longer able to Get Out and personally peddle my art, but still driven to create And Sell, I know that I would jump at the opportunity

Its funny how many of us are like ---- hissss and then we slither back into the shadows for the thought of being out some place. I would still let it pass on by. If they can sell my work without me being there, I would rather have that. I don't get why I would have to be there. Any warm blooded object could fill my place, and I doubt a buyer would care much. If its an event the only thing they want to know is - what will it be worth in the future?
You really have to like people to be out with people, i'm not one of those that does. I like it best when they go away from me.

Mike,
I find it curious, that for all those years, I was the one in costume.
Now that I've settled down, I see that you are the one in costume.
I look forward every month for that New Mike

Being where? announcing to whom?
If they are well known and verified then the vetting process is not needed but I am also an introverted introvert who even avoids the mailman many times, so I would need to know some details before agreeing. Such as, how often do I have to be there, and where do I have to be for how long and who else will be there, what kind of success does this entity have in actually bringing sales in ? etc... If this would allow me to make art for the rest of my life without worrying about the bills then I would have to consider it

It depends on: where "there" is; why they need me "there" and if they are paying for my ticket and accommodation etc. Otherwise, I'll stay right "here". :-)
Nice to see you back, Mike. :-)

I've had a lot of "No Strings Attached" relationships in my daze... all good, no regrets.
i'll do it, 'cause i got nothing to lose these days and when i'm there it'll be here.

There are 2 kinds of people.
Salvador Dali, a guy that did weird things to attract attention.
And me, the dolly on the shelf that is possessed by demonic spirit that no one wants to go near.

RE:.. "me, the dolly on the shelf that is possessed by demonic spirit that no one wants to go near."
As I remember, when there was an effort to get all us demonic spirted Cats, to be gathered up for a "Grand Get-together" in New York City, you were asked.
No one ever said. " Oh! NO! Not HIM!!"

I'm the cat that doesn't leave the house. I know people loosely by an avatar and the rest to me is fictional. Matching a real person next to anything else would be weird to me. People online, to me, are just sort of AI NPC's. And buyers, i'm not the one that can convince them to buy. So the thought that me needing to be anywhere to convince people that the artist is real this time, would seem weird to me. Since people buy from me and accounts of non alive people and they don't mind that.
So yeah, I would be suspicious of their motives and what kind of cut they would have down the line and why I would need to be there.
Oh and don't cut the mutton chops, get a 3 piece suit, a pocket watch and a top hat. And then it will all work together.

Why not. You have an opportunity to seize the room. It is you that they are there for.

Mike,
RE:... "Mutton chops"
Since most guys that have full beards, don't have chins.
One thing I do have is a chin.

Ahhhh…mutton chops! The first thing I grew after four years (67-71) of “regulation” Marine Corps hair cuts and mustache!
As for “no strings attached”, that reminds me of “free kittens” signs you see posted at the grocery store bulletin boards.
There’s no such thing as a FREE kitten. :-)
Just mho, also always some strings attached…
Like you must be present and???

I don't understand the point of the question.
To test forum user's understanding of the word hypothetical?
To test whether or not forum users would believe that the question is truly hypothetical?
To test forum users comprehension in general?

"We do exist"... That is what an AI would say to convince me...
But the reality is, some people are inside and stay out of the light, if I was outgoing enough to be with people on purpose, I would have stuff in a gallery. The thing is you can't just go one time. You would be expected to go to many shows and events. It would become a really tiring gig. I would have to talk to people, schmooze, make small talk, all the stuff I can't stand.
The look of condescension when I look at people would be pretty obvious, the rolling of my eyes would be so great they would think I was a zombie as my eyes would just be white holes where the eyes once were. There is an off chance I may even sprain my eyes. Even the person telling me to come in, would probably not want me back there. Often a company will send a good looking, smooth talking spokesperson to talk for the company. Not the back room scientists who never saw a comb and has no people skills. I know where my place is... Away from everything.

Mike,
Perhaps why I enjoyed all those years, face to face with the public, is that I purposefully decided to create work that I knew would never, initially, please the public.
Enjoying their bewildered expressions, asking themselves, "Why is this stuff here?
And the few, asking themselves, " Why am I liking this stuff?"
With some, liking it enough, to actually buy
10 Months Ago
I make things based off of pattern and what I think should sell based off that pattern. Convincing someone to buy it isn't my thing. Other people selling it for me, that's my thing. As long as I can sit back and watch.
You are an outgoing person. You would rather talk to people.
I'm an ingoing person. I would rather talk to inanimate objects, plants and animals, before I have to interact with people.

Roger,
I'd go. I'd have very mixed feelings for a while upfront about security. People trying to hack my accounts etc....online. Not my personal security.
But in fact in the NFT thing people do not give up any identification because if others know who they are their wallets can get hacked. I threw that aside from day one.
The actual marketing though is my own. No one will do that for me as usual.
So yes it is my words, my avatar but my identity is out there as a target if successful. Part of that is not following the crowd and doing the same thing hiding in public.
Roger, I think I get what you are saying.
So many experience life vicariously through modern media.......
Travel, even if it's just down the street to a local venue where others are interacting IMHO has not yet been replaced with virtual experiences but if an entire generation's primary exposures are virtual then travel and "being there " may become obsolete.

You know the scene when you have to drag a toddler to see the doctor for shots. Or when the dog hears that you will bring them to the vet or dump them into a tub of water? That's me. Trying to get me to a social event. You would have to drag me by my feet as I go limp and i'll grab onto stationary objects as i'm slid across the floor.
