A Year For Art / Team Support Continued

This is a continuation of the previous mutual supporting threads. We are a TEAM. Many thanks to Sharon for starting the movement and those previous threads.

We are an inclusive group of all types of artists who help support each other through various ways, including but not limited to, promoting each other on various social media platforms. You will get out what you put in here, but many of us have benefited from more sales/viewers/followers/likes/favorites/boosts etc.

If you are new, please read the previous threads as they are long but filled with important information and helpful tips.

https://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=7227562

https://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=7520685

https://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=8065767

We all believe that this mutual support of each other helps all of us expand our networks and who sees our work. The concept is that a rising tide lifts all boats. This is a diverse TEAM, spanning all artistic formats, ages, locations and more.

We are currently using the hashtag #AYearForArt and then also, until Valentine's Day, the previously successful #BuyArtNotCandy hashtag too. This helps us to find each other on various social media (SM) platforms.

When using Twitter, PLEASE PIN the tweet you would like the TEAM to retweet (RT). This helps speed things up. When using Mastodon, please also PIN the image you wanted boosted by the TEAM. Mastodon allows you 5 pinned images, so unpin one to make room for your new one once you have 5 images pinned. If you do not pin and help your fellow TEAM members, some will not take the extra time consuming steps to find something of yours to RT/boost! Help us, help you!

Steve Estvanik has compiled a list, which is not fully comprehensive as the TEAM has expanded beyond those that post here, but also some on this list may not be as active as others. It is a great way to find many of our links: (Follow everyone, and everyone should follow you back if you are new!)

http://cascoly.com/trav/africa/faa-by-artist.asp

Please feel free to ask questions about just about anything -- this TEAM has a wealth of experience and knowledge.

Thanks to everyone for continuing this YEAR FOR ART! If I forgot anything, please chime in....I will likely update this over time too....

Have been trying to get up to speed on how to interact with this group and will continue to do so. We are leasving for a road trip for at least a month in our tiny travel trailer, adding photos to my portfolio. Internet access will not be great. Will get up to speed after we get back.

Thanks CMD!

Thank you Melinda, I’m planning on continuing with the TEAM.

Other than pinning, the importance of ALT TEXT comes up frequently, as you know, even today I reblogged a blind person’s plea. It doesn’t take much for us to add a short description, but it really means a world to them. Thanks!
Most of us do it, I know…

Thanks for all the thanks but I am not doing anything heroic, just helping to keep us all keeping on...

Let's brainstorm about what the TEAM could do for Valentine's Day given it is one month away. Maybe have a set day where we all post heart designs if we have them? Or just go red/pink? Idk but might be fun to do something all together? Anyone think of anything we might do as a TEAM to show some love to show some love ha ha?

Hi all :-)

I'm mainly active on Pinterest, but here are all my social media links:

Facebook (Fractal Art): https://www.facebook.com/FractalArtPrints/

My IG and YouTube accounts are neglected.
I started getting fewer impressions on Twitter (next to zero for some tweets), so I'm learning to use Mastodon.
I will continue to participate using my Mastodon account. I might be slow because I don't want to make the same mistakes I made while using Twitter.

@John - obviously not for #FF, but for other uses, for my lists I only add the links from people who ask to be included, here are the current lists:

and

when you post a Mdon link please use the URL https://mstdn.social/@yngvi rather than the internal @yngvi@mstdn.social

If you're part of the 'team' (following others, RT & boosting others on the team) you can add your SM links for addition to these lists by posting them here

For updates, post any of your missing links - eg mastodon, instagram, piltdown, website, blogs, etc

some recent hashtag trends:

#followFriday (not surprisingly) has good results for 1st two days, then falls off during the week

#FebruaryFun hasnt had much effect

#mastoArt has strong results, as do #BuyIntoArt and #aYearForArt across the week

unexpectedly(?) #aiArt has consistently decent results on mdon

these are mostly my spotty reporting-- still would help w more input:

So far, no movement on that licensing deal. She asked for my phone number a couple of times, but I'm hesitant to give that out to random online people who I don't know in person. I did point her to licensing.pixels.com and said I'd prefer to do things through there because it handles payment (she had previously mentioned a cheque that her client would send me) and it has a variety of license agreements to choose from. I don't reply to Twitter messages quickly because I don't have it on my phone, so I only see them when I'm sitting at my computer and actually remember to check. I also suggested moving the conversation to email, which she said would be "fine, if that would get me to reply faster", so I gave her my email address. That was yesterday around 5pm EST. No emails yet. I realize it hasn't even been 24 hours, but she did suggest that she wanted to move things along... I'm not sure what to think, but now the ball's in her court.

On a more positive note, I just passed the 2MM view mark overnight. I joined on May 12, 2021, which is 654 days ago. Overall, that's an average of about 3k views per day. From Jan 1 to now, I have 381k views. That's 55 days, or an average of almost 7k per day. That's also right around when I joined MDon.

A good way to start our trip. I got an image posted to Mdon after we got on the road this morning and had a message shortly afterwards from a follower that she purchased a tapestry!

Debbie Oppermann

Congrats Deb! MDon is working for us!

@John a phone number she doesn't need, email is the way to go as you then have proof of conversations, just curious but would the prices in your licensing be comparable to what she was willing to pay? Don't need exact price info here, just wondering if she it taking a bit longer because there is price difference that is not to her benefit with your licensing prices

Renata Natale

@Debra, very cool!

John Twynam

@Debbie, yes that's another reason why I'd prefer email. She offered $1k for 5 photos, which she said was $500 for the license and $500 as a bonus to give me "artistic credit". I'm not sure why she felt it necessary to make the distinction - to me, that just works out to $200 per image. The license prices I have set are comparable, possibly even cheaper. E.g. one of them (https://licensing.pixels.com/featured/thunder-storm-in-monument-valley-john-twynam.html) is listed at $166.17. She didn't specify if her offer was in USD or CAD... if it was USD, then the license price is cheaper. If it was in CAD, then the license price is a bit more (it works out to about $226 CAD). I would be happy to lower the price to bring it down to $200 CAD if she asked. The prices I have set are whatever FAA uses for the default Getty equivalent.

Debbie Oppermann

@John It sounds strange for her to word it the way she did with her $1,000 for 5 photos - 5 photos, 200 each is simple - well hopefully she contacts you soon so you can at least get the chance to bring it down to 200 CAD if necessary or maybe she won't contact you at all anymore and go straight to the licensing which works as well

@Deb M ... Congrats on your Mdon sale. I haven't sold anything from there yet but ya'll give me hope. Safe travels.

@John ... I wouldn't give her my phone number either. The fact that she said her client would send you a check lit up some caution lights for me. That tactic is on MANY of the online scams that many have talked about in these threads. Where again did this woman contact you? Twitter? She may be legit but I'd proceed with caution. I'd tell her you only deal with payment thru PayPal too. No personal checks from her or client. That's a definite scam modus operandi. Not saying she's a scam but that most of these scams want to send a personal check.

Steve Estvanik

@John - most online scams involve you paying them, or buying a gift card, so that's less likely - hard to see what they're scamming unless they intend to resell the images, but 's still a steep price to pay.

i'd take a check/cheque with the understanding it had to clear before the images were sent.

overall, very strange

@Debbie @Steve thanks!

I had three pieces in a local art show. Today was pick-up day. I located two of my three pieces. When I inquired about the third the person overseeing the pick-up asked my name. After I told him who I was he said, "one of your pieces sold." Then he dug in a folder and delivered my check. Nice way to end a Saturday!

I have a lot of things going on in my personal and work life at the moment. Don't be surprised if I'm not RTing, RTooting or posting every day for the next few weeks. I'll dig in when I can.

@Bob... Congrats on the sale! Any way they come is good.

@Renata... I get them in spurts, then they stop for a while. I just ignore them.

I tried out one of the FAA limited time promotion specials yesterday. Posted on FB as a thank you to followers and supporters. Sold one within first 15 minutes! No further sales yet, but it was a pleasant surprise.

Way to go Bob and then Fon.

I am a strong believer to keep trying new ways to sell, what did not work previously may work next time around. Hoping everyone gets sales fairy visits this weekend!

Dear all

It is almost spring (even if it is still snowy where you are) and it seems like an opportune time to do a little spring cleaning.

I am going to close this thread and open a new thread, where I hope the existing TEAM will join and we will also grow.  The new thread will give others on FAA to join us in our efforts of mutual promotion.

Many of you have asked for a refresh, and we are going to use #SpringIntoArt as our anchor,  You can still use #AYFA if you choose, since it still is A Year For Art, but for the next few months let's all utilize #SpringIntoArt in order to inject some additional excitement into our mutual efforts.

While there remain no specific rules, the whole goal is to support every TEAM member, by following them, by retweeting them, by boosting them, by helping them as they will also reciprocate and help you in the same ways.

This is more than a mutual supporting team, it is also a collaborative learning environment and we will continue to share our knowledge and experiences as well.

Let's all move forward together!
