Simple exercise this week.
You have the base down now for what it is you are looking for and what you should be doing. So this week is an exercise towards a final push.
EXERCISE ONE - PRODUCT
The main part of the sale is, of course, the products you are selling, be they here or offsite. To sell it/them well means you need a good write up about that item to be placed on your adverts or to be able to explain to people what they are buying if they approach you.
The exercise here is to write a description, or advert, for an item, or items, you are selling. Please leave out prices etc as those are another exercise.
Here is a description that is a great example of what works. https://www.nakedwines.com/products/stefano-di-blasi-pinot-grigio-blush-2020
So;
1. Your product description should be easy to read with no long, hard to understand technical aspects. You are writing for Anyone to know what it is you are selling and for Google to pick it up. Use bullet points or numbers to list the benefits.
2. Is your item a fun item or a serious item? Make the description match the theme.
3. Focus on how good the product is and how it will benefit your customer.. For instance a tshirt may give your customer style, or amaze their friends.
4. Be specific. Don't ramble about things that do not matter. They do not need to know right now WHY you made it, unless that is paramount to why they should purchase it.
5. Optimise your description so search engines will pick it up. Choose a keyword, or keywords, that best fit the product or image and then make sure to also use those in your description
6. Do not copy paste from anywhere. Use your own words so you are not penalised for duplicate copy.
7. Read it through and make sure there are no spelling mistakes, nor that it contains bad grammar, (if in doubt, ask someone else to read it).
Ok, I think I covered most things...... enough for this week
Practise your descriptions below so we can all help or get ideas..... Anyone jump in and help someone if you know what you are doing

Oh, good. This is my weak point. I totally suck at descriptions and I can really use all the help I can get :-)
Example? Okay, this is the image (a Fractal): https://fineartamerica.com/featured/stunning-mandelbrot-fractal-matthias-hauser.html
My clumsy attempt to craft a description:
Abstract mandelbrot fractal artwork, beautiful jewel colors (green, purple and many more), floral elements and spirals. Use the preview function (the green square) to look into the picture and the fantastic details! Comes out great as large metal or acrylic print. Square format.
Yes, I know... ;-) I really love this piece so I found someone who wrote this:
A design that shows creativity and mystery. This digital artwork work tells the story of an enchanted forest with jewels glistening on dark colored leaves while the cool air shakes the leaves with light rain. It could also tell the story of Alice when she falls down the hole what she sees, this psychedelic swirling tunnel. What do you see? Buy this piece and your friends and family will be amazed and bewildered at this one of a kind art.
I used this for my Shopify store.
My third attempt was to hire someone that wrote some stories about my Fractals. Here we go:
Once there was a city with the name Adelphi. Adelphi was a happy place, laughter and joy spreading from every corner of the city. They were especially well known for their colorful spirits, making everything glow in countless variants of purple, green, orange and red.
Visitors would always just wander the streets for hours, marveling at all the colors.
But only those, who left the city and walked through the green outskirts of Adelphi for hours, would see the real beauty of the place. They called them the rainbow tornados.
These Tornados flickered in every color of the rainbow. You could spot them from a distance and everyone who has caught the rare sight of a color tornado swears, he will never ever see something that beautiful again.
I combined the story above with my description but I'm not sure about the outcome.
What do you like the best?
Looking forward to your examples, I'm sure I will learn a lot!

Makes me want to see it and perhaps purchase
The first one was abysmal, sorry...
The second one was rambling

Not an easy task, but a very good exercise. Just had breakfast/ coffee, posted my first artwork for the day. Will have to get back to this. Hard to be objective, sometimes I post with 'a description' then radically revise it.
Thanks Abbie and Matthias!

Abbie, is it just me or is your example link in your OP not working?
("Here is a description that is a great example of what works. https://www.nakedwines.com/products/stefano-di-blasi-pinot-grigio-blush-2020")
_____________
Also I seem to recall reading somewhere in the forums that one should have their descriptions etc. completed and ready to go prior to tapping the SUBMIT button because it isn't good to go back and edit later? Or does that just apply to changing the artwork title? (since that breaks it's original link)
I often go back and re-write descriptions and update keywords after the fact. I still do. Especially after reading this thread. Occasionally I'll change a title, but very rarely.
_____________
Reflecting Pool is an example of a recent work that I've revised several times:
Description:
You are viewing a digital abstract work that is potentially suited to a fantasy story book, a sci-fi thriller or a mystery. Intentioned to draw you in and stretch your imagination, one could ask, is this a reflection of a city skyline in a rippling puddle on a beautiful day, perhaps in the city park? Are we witnessing the first drop from an approaching rain or the last one from a passing storm? How can such a small influence change your entire perspective? Open to your mind's eye, the intent is to stimulate thought, to wonder how easily we see something differently than the next person, to inspire hope that the pending transition is a positive one.
Keywords (gleaned from mykeyworder.com):
water, reflection, apparition, pond, pool, ripple, blue, abstract, surface, summer, wave, turquoise, pattern, transparent, nature, texture, clear, light, liquid, wet, cool, bright, aqua, shiny, vibrant, deep, tranquil, view, outdoor, concept, azure, vivid, urban
Edit - Have revised it's description since my original post...

Of course, in a perfect world, we would have written our descriptions before even thinking about adding work. However this is not a perfect world and editing descriptions, or keywords, will not hurt you at all in all honesty.
Before adding descriptions here, please read my list of what constitutes a good description for attracting people. Then think about yours again and add what you will be changing it to, or adding it after it matches and has all the elements.

I have a spreadsheet in a Word document with a table of 2 columns in which I title my images on the left side and write the descriptions on the right side for each row. I have sometimes posted 10 images a day and before I post them I usually spend a couple hours writing the descriptions and research the specifics of the image, ie; type of flower. So when I post my images I copy and paste from my spread sheet into the submission form. This spreadsheet helps me for future images that may have the info I need. I learned to do this from gleaning the discussion boards about how important descriptions are. I also have a spread sheet for keywords.
Here is an example of a description for this image - https://fineartamerica.com/featured/lemon-bee-balm-wildflower-portrait-in-sunlight-gaby-ethington.html
Lemon Bee Balm Wildflower Portrait in Sunlight | This is a close up portrait of a Lemon Bee Balm wildflower. These are growing in a field meadow nearby me and they grow up tall on the stalk-stem of the plant. The lavender and green colors complement each other on the flower as well. They thrive on sunlight and warmth and I think it is a very interesting plant.
Lemon Bee Balm plants (Monarda citriodora) are easy to grow and are part of the mint family of plants. It is sometimes called horsemint or lemon mint. It is common in the United States and Mexico, mostly seen in meadows an roadsides. It attracts hummingbirds, butterflies and other pollinators and can grow up to 30 inches tall.

I don't know if this will help others to set it up for themselves but it sure helps me when I upload my images. I am seeing by your opening post that my descriptions should be longer and more detailed. I will work on that!
Thank you for these very informative sessions!

If an image is of a similar subject, I often use the same description except for changing colors or another detail. I also have a paragraph about myself that I use in all my descriptions.
Am I to understand that I am being penalized by the algorithm for having similarities in my descriptions?

Matthias, that 'Alice' description of the fractal is very engaging.
Gaby, excellent spreadsheet idea!
David, great job in your description. I have a hard time describing abstracts.
Abstract in Blue
An abstract painting largely in blue, gouache on paper. Coloured in cool blue tones with a touch of warm, fresh yellow, colours ranging from green to brown. Composed of squares, oblongs, some individual brushstrokes, creating depth and texture in a contemporary style.

Let your visitors know that you are a well-travelled person with sophistication and a love for fine art by hanging this piece on your living room wall. This acrylic landscape depicts Waterfront Park in Port Richey, FL, outside of Tampa using cool blues and a spattering of warm golden tones as accents. A perfect compliment for any traditional décor. Available in multiple sizes.

These are great examples and will surely help the images be placed well in internet searches! It looks like I have a lot of work to do updating my dry descriptions. I like Gaby's suggestion of a spreadsheet. I prefer to leave my images without descriptions and keywords attached and will just copy from the Word document and paste into the uploaded image.

I often like to describe the clothing or decor items that I am advertising by repeating/borrowing from the description that FAA/Pixels places next to the product.
But those words cannot be copied and pasted.
Is there a sound reason they cannot be copied, for it would sure be nice to not have to type all of that information?

Because you will be penalised for it. Not by us but by some search engines
They only like original content
I see some people literally copying direct from Wiki or the like and then wondering why they do not appear at all when they look for that work on Google. It is because wiki came first and so Google will show that one more than the copying

Thank you so much, Abbie!
I've been feeling so overwhelmed by this description writing and shared about it a few times. Being dyslexia makes it extra challenging for me. I keep trying.
I thought I had some help to do this, but that didn't work out very well. So now it's just me on my own.
I see in one of your comments that Google penalizes us for repeating the same descriptions. I'm hoping that as long as you change some of it up, you will be OK. Does that mean it won't be shown on goggle? So far, I'm not doing anything right because I don't see mine showing up on Google unless I search for my name.
I just did a search for "Sainte-Croix lake fine art" what I found interesting is in the images when I scroll down I actually found my image but not from this website I found it shared through my Pinterest post.
Coincidentally I have been listening to skillshare about this topic also. For those of you who are subscribers and also struggle : Copywriting for Creatives: Write Professional, Persuasive Copy for Your Creative
After reading this thread, this is what I've revised mine(I have not posted it yet). I would love feedback:
https://fineartamerica.com/featured/lake-of-sainte-croix-in-provence-sue-zipkin.html
BEFORE:
I had the opportunity to do some Plein air painting in the south of France. There was beauty everywhere. As an artist, it was a dream come true. I've always been inspired by so many French impressionist painters such as Monet, Cézanne, Renoir. This a view from Sainte-Croix lake in Provence. The color of the water was incredible, a beautiful turquoise blue.
AFTER:
Have you ever visited the Provence region in the south of France? I had the good fortune to do some Plein air painting on location a few years ago. I was captivated by the beauty around me. I could feel the essence of what it was that the great impressionist painters must have experienced. My magical experience at Sainte-Croix lake inspired this abstract scenic watercolor painting. The color of the water was an incredible turquoise blue. I hope to return one day and experience the joy and tranquility I found at the lake and other locations we had visited. Perhaps you are an adventure seeker, and you can visit the lake one day. In the meantime, you can enjoy the painting I offer on various wall art and other gifts and home items.
I really appreciate this thread so much! I really like a lot of the descriptions people are posting.
Thanks!
