Marketing Tip Second Week

My marketing tip for this week is to focus on what you already have for this week.

What I mean by this is, go through all your existing art and finances and do several things.

1. Is your work edited to its best look? Are you truly happy with it?

2. If uploaded already. go through your description and keywords (MyKeyworder and/or Microstock Keywords) Make sure they are fully filled out and up to date.

3. Check all your social media links are up to date. Go to each social media and check your ABOUT areas and links. Are they all current?

4. Run through places you have shared links and make sure they are all valid and pointing to you and existing work

5. Do a financial statement for yourself on how much it is costing you to produce each image. Are you asking enough in markups to cover this cost and make a profit?

6. Do at least two module from the Digital Garage Course

7. Put in any orders for parts or supplies you need now.

8. Tidy your workplace and add any expenses you missed on loose receipts to your tax notes

9. Clear out computer folders of work you really are NOT going to add for sale.... everrrrrrrrr

10. Check out advertising costs on the websites you use the most and decide which to invest in next month. All large businesses have advertising budgets, normally running into several thousand per year. My budget is £10 per month. Looing at the financial statement you worked out for yourself on #5, how much can you seriously put towards advertising. Add that amount to your markup over your monthly images.

EXAMPLE My advertising budget is £10 per month so if I upload 10 images this month, I will add £1 to each image to cover that cost. Or just sign up for our advertising DISCOUNT PROGRAMMES and markup accordingly.

Busy week ahead ...

Brilliant advice Abbie. Could you explain point 7 a bit more?

Abbie - thank you! Great tips! I need to do the clearing out of files first!

Hi Six

Yes. Too many of us don't keep up with what's out there price wise etc. For painters especially I think, I may be wrong, but we get stuck on one make, one pencil, one kind of paper.

Regularly we should be looking around at what's new. Making sure our paints are not old and drying out etc.

We should regularly go through our supplies to see if we need to replace things, to stock up.

See if sales are on anywhere etc

Make this week the week you do that.

Thank you so much!
I just have a couple of questions.

I turned on your discount program to "yes"

Is there a way to have two sets of prices one for when you have the discount and another one for just the average customer coming to your shop?
Perhaps I'm missing something and there is information about this. If there is no way to do that are you suggesting we just up our prices?

Might you have a link to more information on advertising and what's been working for people in reference to making sales on FAA?

I want to get all of my ducks in a row (or at least quite a few ducks)
I have been trying to list items on FB.. I have managed to get some listed if I do them individually.

It appears that I cannot use my Pixels/FAA to sell on Instagram, I tried to set that up yesterday and I just got the error message. I looked it up and it appears it's not possible?

Thanks!
Sue Z

Hello Abbie , thank you for your help in the past, this/your posts are really interesting.
I have been disillusioned lately, getting lots of positive feedback and views from all over, but not yet breaking through to an actual sale.
I am also aware some folks just never sell anything, even after doing all the, "right things" and having really good work and being on for perhaps even two or three years...for some it just doesn't happen. So I wonder just how long is it worth continuing the promotion and uploading of new images which I am doing and if I am missing a vital tactic to make the progression to actual sales, etc.
Anyway, thanks again and it's real good of you to make these posts for everyone.
With kind regards

Put Marketing in the discussions search. It is absolutely chock-a-block filled with information

You may have one set of prices only.

OBT. Well! Seriously you should have FAR more visitors than you have, even though you have only been here for a few months. Your work is outstanding if a little on the small side (the ones I looked at).

Your keywords are a little odd

I found these on one image https://fineartamerica.com/featured/vernacular-dwelling-highland-scotland-and-worldwide-obt-imaging.html

international, vernacular, house, family, home, beginning, thatched, highland, tropical, scotland, clearances, immigration, america, traditional, thatched, stone, cottage, ancient, rural, croft, dwelling, authentic, romantic, nostalgic,

Which is it? Scotland or America?? You cannot have both.

Thatched cottage should be the first keywords along with the REAL place. Take out all erroneous keywords. Why international? It cannot move.

The first 10 keywords are your MOST IMPORTANT so use then to clearly explain what is in the image. Then you can use others for things like 'architecture' etc

Anything else is spamming the tags

First part of the description of that image does not make sense

Wherever you are in the world, Hello. Take a look around and enjoy your homeland heritage and historical architecture.... This image marks a chapter of....

Huh?

Take the time to just explain what is in the image. It is a cottage in Scotland. Add the American bit yes, but not in the keywords.

Hi Abbie, thank you very much for this feedback I will have a look at the key word choice, and note the ten keyword advice.
I hope that will in fact mean I will have those Far more visitors than I have and thank you very much for the compliment.
Ah Yes I am indeed looking into the size of images issue, I have the bigger resolution versions for all the images which I mistakenly uploaded in a small format and am working on this, thank you for confirming the importance of this.

Ah yes :) my descriptions!. Thank you for flagging this up. I get a lot of positive comments about my side bars, but of course you are quite right descriptions need to be more buyer search engine friendly, if I am understanding you correctly ?. I did not know descriptions had a bearing upon whether an image is found by a buyer. I thought descriptions needed to be as interesting as possible for the buyer to read after they had discovered the image via the keywords ?

Right oh thank you very much for all this, I will have a profile review and amend accordingly and look out for improves analytics. Its really good work that you do for everyone.

Wishing you well
Many Thanks

Google stopped using keywords as much about 4 years ago (?) now and they read the descriptions. The descriptions therefore need to be about the image. If you wish to add the other stuff, do that below the search engine description.

Keywords/tags are mainly for this site and other search engines. Many other search engines only read the first 10 keywords

Thank you very much. I don't understood why the keywords which Google consider to be the trigger for artwork for being found by a buyer , would affect being found by a potential buyer who has logged onto FAA to search for work by an FAA member ?

Do you mean that a members work can appear elsewhere on the internet visible via google and then when it appears elsewhere that then leads the buyer to the FAA website?
i.e. can work by an FAA member (whose work is solely on FAA) appear in a search where a potential buyer is looking elsewhere for an image of something ?

Of course

But Google is not looking at your keywords. Google is looking at your descriptions.

Our search, and other search's (Yahoo, Bing, etc etc) use your keywords and a lot of them only use 10. The first 10

Thanks so much, Abbie! Did not know about Google and description being first few words that matter in search. Also keywords, I do try to use the important ones first but need a recheck as well. Have lots I need to redo, especially older images now. I am with Susan, more like taking a while longer than a week.

Abbie,

I just stumbled upon your advice, thanks for taking the time to help so many! I'm struggling with low sales / visitors ( I'm not the only one - I know ), and I'm wondering if my prices are competitive. I have looked around, and I don't think I'm way out of the ballpark; have you any thought?

Many thanks,

Hi Abbie,

Regarding descriptions you said, "Google is not looking at your keywords. Google is looking at your descriptions."

We REALLY need to provide more than a basic Alt Tag description to each image then correct?

Only if sharing elsewhere... or even in the forums here
