Multiple Visits To One Image

I've just seen a surge in visitor numbers, which should be good news, but when I drill down I find that one user is repeatedly looking at some of my photos There's maybe 20 or 30 visits over a brief period, with more than one visit recorded in the same minute. I suspect an out of control Bot? This is distorting my data and isn't helpful. Is there no way that the visitors can be screened so that only likely customers can be included in searches ?

It's from a New York location.

Any other ideas?

its probably a bot. there is no way to know if its a bot or a person that really wants the image and just keeps coming back to it. from what i understand, there are people that live in NY.

i don't see how knowing the visitor count really helps you one way or the other. but for places like NY, filtering that out would really mess up your count. just have to live with it. think of it as a person that came into your store. looked at and touched everything. then walked out without buying anything. they may come back and get something. or send friends your way.

Cheers Mike. On another agency that I use views only come from established customers, so you don't get any time wasting data. Using that input it is possible to see what kind of work is most in demand. I have found that market research, based upon sensible data, helps to steer your work to more sales.

OK I know that the customer base is very different here, much more widely based, so filtering is admittedly more difficult. However I would have thought that the Bots have certain characteristics which might allow them to be picked up and, maybe optionally, removed.

the stats we have are fun to look at but they won't tell you anything useful other than there was activity on it. google analytics is a little better but also not ideal. the work that is in demand is the one that is selling. and on this site its impossible to catch a trend. someone might have liked it and sent it to facebook and now you have views for no reason.

The idea of not reporting bots has been discussed here for years.

It is what it is. I personally think they are left there to make people feel good even if it is a false sense of people actually looking at their art. lol

@ Floyd: "I personally think they are left there to make people feel good even if it is a false sense of people actually looking at their art."

Yup, perception is a big part of selling - especially to the uninformed.

@ Bryan: If you use the premium site to promote your work (https://bryan-attewell.pixels.com/) you can install Google analytics. GA filters the bots (or most of them, anyway) so you get to see "real" visitors, the pages they land on, where they travel through the site and the page where they exit your site.

Bill and Floyd, some of us like to have a false sense of people looking at our art. I'll take any feel good moment I can get. Thank you FAA!

Thanks Bill, I'll take a look at Google Analytics.

I know my Bots - Beverley Hills, Shangzhou, Kiel (Germany) ...

No idea what a 'control bot' is, nor do I think I want to. Sounds like Terminator

Beverly Hills and a couple of others are main mobile routers.

Romeo
China
Guangzhou
Sunnyvale
and several others not mentioned here are search bots.

If you know about bots you can ignore this bit.

Why do we need bots…. and why should you allow them some access to your site

A search engine is a site that allows people to put in a search term and find a site for what they are looking for.

A bot, or web crawler, is the little programme (think of a little robot made up of 0s and 1s) who runs around around the web with a thousand mates, checking out all the sites by following links. One link leads to another 5 links and those 5 links lead to another 10 links etc etc. The bots all scurry around and report back to the big programme, the search engine, what they find on the pages the links lead to.

The search engine waits, all knowing and, when someone then comes along and asks for FISH, the search engine smiles to itself and, patting a bot on the head that brought back the FISH descriptions, tells the person all the sites that are talking about fish.

That’s a bot.

I am sure the percentage changes industry to industry and year to year.....

About 80% of all internet traffic is bots.

I am sure that if all of a sudden the bots were removed, I would probably be one of the first to go "HOLY CHIT!" 🤣

So, yeah, as Bill said, what ever it takes to keep people as positive as possible.

It's like the difference between a great golfer and good golfer. The good golfer gets really upset when he takes 7 on a 5 par. The great golfer is really pleased that he avoided the 8.

Perception is the false reality where we all live. It is human nature.

Hey, Floyd, as little as I play, I'm quite happy with an 8 on a par 5. LOL
