Google Shows Pixels Site As My

When I Google "Denise Strahm Images", in addition to my own website showing up, the Pixels website also comes up, which is great! But what I don't like is that it says "Official Website" next to it, which isn't the case. Is there a way to have it say something else? My "official website" is denisestrahmimages.com, not the pixels one. One day maybe I'll stop doing my own website, but for now I have both.

Some like that and others don't like it. I haven't heard that there is anything we can do about it. I personally am OK with it, but others who have their own website are not OK with it.

I also have my own website but I don't sell work there, so...

I am now also seeing that there is a separate contact for me, separate from the official website. Now that I DON'T like! I don't want to get spammed! The contact should only be from within my site!

It's not a big deal if it cannot change but since it isn't my official website (and I sell from there) I wish it didn't say that the Pixels one was the "official website."

Jessica. That's Google and how they're doing things now. Not us.

Abbie, I understand. :(

i think it depends what you push more. if you have a real official website - that should pushed more than anything else. but if you push this site, that's what google will think.

I did the hassle of setting up my brand name site (that links to here) via cloudflare.

It turned out that Pinterest wouldn't accept rich pins from it & facebook suddenly deleted every post from my branded site.

So now I only social media market my personal pixel site with rich pinterest pins & working links on facebook.

So I like that Google sees my personal pixel as my "official" site.

I have a domain name and website apart from FAA but I don't push that as much as I used to. In the past I would have been irritated by google calling my Artist Website page here the "Official Website" but the truth is I get way more traffic here than I do on my own site. The only reason I haven't switched my domain name to my Artist Website here is because I put so much work into my other website. But I always link to my AW in all of my posts and links. I remember hearing somewhere that it's better for people to land on a page they can start shopping on right away rather than make them jump through hoops to get there. The less clicks they have to make the better so if it helps in google searches I am fine with it.

If it causes someone to click on it, then I'm fine with it ...

As I'm fine with the 'Official Website" thing for my AW I assume it's just a setting in the source code (title tag) that could be changed. I'm no expert in this but look at this:

Matthias Hauser Fotografie: Sonstiges für Blog und Website &emdash;

Maybe it would be possible to change the title tag etc. from "Official Website" to "Artist Website" or "Art Website" or something like this. Just an idea...

Exactly Matthias, it should be very easy to change. I get they won't want to make it free-form but there should be a few options, like you've given above, to choose from.

Technically it would be easy for FAA to let us change what gets pumped into the title tag in the AW admin back end but I doubt they'd want to.

Personally I'm ok with official website.

Thanks everyone. It is in the title tag area on my Wordpress site where I say “ San Diego Fine Art Photographer” after my name, so therefore that is how I show up in a Google search. So, yes, I just assume the Pixels sites are set up in the same way that could easily be changed. I get that the “default” would be set up that way for Pixels but perhaps this will be my suggestion for change for August if that discussion is still open. A simple toggle bar that allows you to leave the default as is (Official Website) or toggle it and a blank area appears where you can change what it says, with approval.

I'm going out on a limb here but I doubt very much Sean will change that. He does a lot of trial and error on things to make sure they work for sales. If that's still there then it's working overall

Yes, of course it works, just not sure it’s accurate and ethical to say that in everyone’s case.

It could be a simple thing in the code where IF there is nothing filled in the “Website” box in your contact area behind the scenes then the default of “Official Website” appears in the title area/google. But if you have a website then it says something else.

Maybe:
Denise Strahm - Pixels Site
Denise Strahm - Fine Art America Site

"But what I don't like is that it says "Official Website" "

Not sure what the issue is here.

Is it not an official website? They are not saying it is "the" official website.

Maybe not a hair worth splitting. A bigger problem to me is if you did not come up at all. I would not nor would I ask anyone else to d do anything to mess with it myself for fear that would be the results.

I think it is wrong to misinform the public about artists true official website. And it is kind of offensive because it drives the public from my main source of money to a site that does not generarte money at all.

In my true official website I provide photo shoot which is where I get real money from.

I also have a page in my main website only for FAA Shopping Cart Widget which is the most likely to get any sale since it is the page a promote in social medias daily.

FAA website is not my main source of money and selling prints is not my main activity at all. It is just my artist website and it should be named properly.

I wouldn't mind at all if it actually was working to generate sales. But it is not.

"I think it is wrong to misinform the public about artists true official website."

But it doesn't say that. It just "official website" which is true.

I have 13 official web sites...

Official as opposed to what?

For example, you tell someone about an exhibition you are in and tell them the information is on my website. You give them your business card with your website on it and they lose the business card. So then they go about Googling you to get the information and the Pixels one shows up as the "Official Website." They go there and they don't find the information. That's just one example. Most people have a completely different "experience" that the user will have on their own site compared to the standard Pixels site. I do like the Pixels sites FAA provides, I just don't think it's okay that for those of us who have our own websites that our Pixels sites are being found in searches as being our "Official Website" when it isn't. It's good business for FAA/Pixels to have it say that though because it takes people away from going to your own website since it says the "Official Website" is the Pixels one. Perhaps that is not their intention, but I'm sure it happens a lot.

I just put a suggestion in the "August Suggestions" discussion so that is all I can do for right now. I'll hope for change but if it doesn't, life will go on.

Have a good weekend everyone!

Denise Strahm
