Grrrr....people Sharing My/our Art On Fb W/o Link To Our Galleries...

Slight rant....every once in a while I search for my name on FB to see where I am "mentioned"... I happened upon a page that shared my Dragonfly Queen at Night Fractal...w/o any link back to my Gallery here at FAA. But the shocker came when I saw that it was shared 457 times...I am "flattered" that people like it so much, but I did add a comment with where to purchase it and asked that the link be added to the description of the artwork....but it's been 5 months since they posted it, probably a moot point now.

You all may want to search for your name on FB too ....and click on "pages" to see where your name/artwork is on.

Facebook makes it so easy to steal images completely or share them through FB that, sadly you just have to weigh the benefits versus the loss because there's not much you can do about it. Fortunately the image they can steal is not up to the quality of the original, but for someone just using it on a social media page, it's good enough. Recently, I noted an FAA "Recent Sale" and realized that I'd seen many times over the years, all over the place, with no attribution at all, and when I looked for the work of the person on FAA whose image had sold, his style (a painter) in other images completely matched the style of the image I'd seen elsewhere. I concluded that his picture had been lifted some years ago and took on a life of its own, like it or not, to no benefit to the artist. I would suspect that most of the people that use it have no idea where it came from and use it because it's just "out there".

This started for me in 2012, on Pinterest. REALLY freaked me out and I over-reacted and finally got a grip and found ways to deal with it. So I started to watermark everything. I wish we could do custom watermarks on FAA with our names, that would be awesome. Everyone says don't watermark, but when I see my paintings on a bazillion sites with no links, at least my name is there. Not too long ago I discovered the trick of double clicking a layer for layer styles (that only took me a couple of decades to learn) and then just slide the Transparency bar to where the watermark is readable but not obnoxious. So I just make the text black or white and then adjust the transparency. Anyway it makes me feel good to do this and that is all that matters anyway, right? lol...
