The elevator takes one full minute to reach the top! That's a long time in an elevator considering the speed and claustrophobia!

Would love to!

For training purposes you could come to Toronto for the EdgeWalk on the CN Tower - higher and with no barrier between you and the ground :)

https://www.cntower.ca/en-ca/plan-your-visit/attractions/edgewalk/edgewalk-overview.html
"It is the world’s highest full circle hands-free walk on a 5 ft (1.5 m) wide ledge encircling the top of the Tower’s main pod, 356m/1168ft (116 storeys) above the ground."

Yeah, it creeps me out. Heights are not my friend. This is like the skywalk on the Hualapai Reservation in Arizona. That one is 4,000 feet above the canyon floor.

Oh yes, yes, yes, I am looking forward to visiting the New York Edge when it opens. I probably will not be standing on that clear glass floor but otherwise I'm good. I hope the glass perimeter is nice and clean when I visit.

By the way, I wonder how do they clean the outside of that glass. That's not a job for the faint of heart.

Jeff! THAT'S your issue? LOL!

I love it! Not crazy about OPEN heights (like a high cliff, where you could just walk or be pushed off), but there is glass there, I'm sure it's very thick and special glass, so that's ok :)

Looks awesome! Swarms of Instagrammers and selfie specialists could be annoying though

Maybe if they allow us to take photos and sell them from there! I am sure all the cell phone selfies would be going crazy there!

Mike Savad

i like how they photoshopped a person making a selfie in there.

i was in the trade towers as a kid, never went to any other building just for a view. it would be a nice view, unique, for a while anyway. i'd like a number of people to test the structure for a while before i felt sort of safe on it.

i don't think i would stand on the window portion of it. there is almost always the jumper that tests the strength... a few of these windows have broken in china. it would be nice to see it at night, but i would never actually be there. i didn't even know they were building this thing, shows how often we go there. but while its still up, getting a view from it might be nice.

$31 for a child?

scratch that its $38 if you visit, if you go online, its slightly less.

and that price, you are stuck with the time they gave you. if you want it to be flexible you pay a lot more, and flexible only means hours, not days. so you can't just buy a ticket and hope the trains are actually running on time that day, and traffic permitting you get there, you could miss the window your there. at at $56 you don't even get that glass of champagne... though i can't imagine i would want to get drunk and go out there.

$100 for a bag to puke in. and a seat to sit down on away from the window, can't imagine that price. how much for the bungee cord?

no tripods makes sunset and night shots kind of impossible. how many instagram selfie takers will spend $40 for a shot of themselves and a skyline? i can see some, but mostly its the pro's this would attract. and if they make a fuss because you have some stuff that makes you look like a pro - that would not look good in the reviews.

Yes, but, will they restrict "professional" cameras like Rockefeller Center does?

Mike Savad

i went to one park, and though i shot everything, when they saw my camera, a guy ran out and demanded i put my camera in the car, then i can come back. nothing was so special there, and they just had an SLR class before we came. another person reviewed the place the same, only they were followed all over the park and refused to leave.

i would hate to think that i went all the way over to that building and paid a bunch of money, only to find out i could only shoot things from a phone or pocket camera.

Yes, but, will they restrict "professional" cameras like Rockefeller Center does?

When did they start that? I was there in April of 2008 and no one questioned my camera. Of course the light wasn't good so I didn't get anything worth selling let alone at least display quality...

Edward Fielding

Yes. Although people jumping up and down it testing their luck will bother me. Saw that in Toronto.

I was on the 94th floor in Chicago a few weeks ago.

Couple of years ago I went up to the observatory deck at Rockefeller Center and didn't notice and restrictions. Usually, they don't want any tripods.

Rudi Prott

So much money and no professional camera allowed ? How grabby can one be ?
I wonder how they can restrict to sell a skyline photo when their building is not on the photo. What is the underlying law ?

Conclusion to go there: no !

Mike Savad

not just that, but your stuck with the allotted time, which makes me wonder if you can only stay out there for a certain amount of time. and what if it rains? or is really windy. and i wonder if that building sways in the wind (they are designed too), but just makes you wonder how strong those non-reinforced windows are exactly.

i suppose it someone else pays for it then maybe, but then i would have to check the by laws about a large camera. i think it would be neat to get not just a new skyline, but also to see above over the buildings. its a neat view. but way too much just for a view. and i wonder if they charge for a window seat on some other floor? that's all it was on the trade towers. i can get quite a bit of view from an indoor seat.

and what about water spots and fingerprints on the glass, it would be hard to shoot through all of that. while normally i do actually wipe down the window before i shoot through it, i would expect it would be a pain. and what about reflections on the glass? is it glass, do i need a polarizer and if i do - is it plastic? will it rainbow on me?

Doug Swanson

Cool. I will have to do that. Pre 9-11, I walked the outdoor roof of the World Trade Center and since then have done the Empire State Building and the 30-Rock building. Actually, my favorite view is from Rockefeller Center since it's embedded in Mid-town and encompasses all of Manhattan even though it's not as high as the others. The Sears Tower in Chicago is also great.

Rose Santuci-Sofranko

Oh wow, cool! I'd do it!

Joseph C Hinson

I would do it if I could take my DSLR nd at least a monopod if no tripod. I have an issue with tall buidings by being on the sidewalk below them and looking up, not the other way around, so I would do the observation deck

Jennifer White

Yep, I would. We stepped out on the little glass box decks on the 103rd floor of the Willis Tower in Chicago (formally known as Sears Tower). It was freaky at first but so glad we did it. I'd love to capture that beautiful view!

I didn't know this until I played a hidden objects game centered around big cities. NYC can only build the super tall skyscrapers in the areas where there is extremely hard bedrock. It's probably a good thing those super tall structures can not be built just anywhere which can cut off light and sight lines. Loose sediments and rocks from the Ice Age fill the area between Midtown and Downtown causing it to not be able to support the super structures. Central Park which is located in the bedrock area has garnet crystals and mica chips which can be seen in the rocks. These can only be formed under extreme pressure when the bedrock was formed. It's fascinating reading how the NYC area was formed millions of years ago and was not always situated on a coastline: https://blog.epa.gov/2015/07/14/the-manhattan-skyline-why-are-there-no-tall-skyscrapers-between-midtown-and-downtown/

Doug Swanson

Yeah, if you look from a distance toward Manhattan, you can clearly see the areas that are good platforms for super-tall buildings. It's not that the rest of the island is exactly squishy, however, since it supports lots of buildings that would be tall anywhere other than Manhattan. The geological history of the continents is really fascinating and it "boggles the mind" to realize that East Coast terrain was the result of North America colliding with Europe, pushing up what was once Himalayan-sized mountains that are now those little nubs we call the Appalacians. Everything east of there is the result of either stuff washing downstream as the mountains eroded or pieces of Europe that broke off and stuck to North America. South America and Africa have a similar story. Today, the Atlantic is getting several inches wider each year as the continents move away due to sea-floor spreading.

ONLY 1,100 ft. above ground? Than's nuttin'!

Check out Grand Canyon Skywalk. 4,000 ft above the Grand Canyon floor! https://www.mygrandcanyonpark.com/things-to-do/skywalk

BTW That's gonna cost a ship load for Windex and paper towels to keep clean. :o)

but the grand canyon doesn't sway like a building does. and i've been to the grand canyon, the whole place looks like a matte painting. you don't get a sense of height when there. if you did, you wouldn't have parents posing their children on the loose rock wall that surrounds parts of it.
