How To Upload

Copying Artwork Correctly "the Mechanics" By Rich Franco.

See my image to find your 'Behind the Scenes' area which is your Admin area. All your tools are in that area.

I always suggest taking a while to just look around and see what you can do. This is a marathon and not a race so you do not need to get up 100 images before actually looking around. Also make sure you have read the Terms and Conditions before loading images and that all your images are free of copyright claims by other people.

Quick Warning

You may load other people's work, or portraits of celebrities, etc, as long as our Terms of Use is applicable

http://fineartamerica.com/termsofuse.html?document=contributortermsofuse

Representations and Warranties

.......(C) The Images and all parts thereof are owned and/or controlled by You, unencumbered and original works and are capable of copyright protection in all countries where copyright or similar protection is available;......

It is your responsibility to prove if needed that all your images are public domain or that you have the license to use

-------------

Image Quality

If you sell an image we will refuse to print if the image shows.......

Pixellation
Blockiness
Bad cropping
Blurriness not in keeping with the image (ie not meant to be there)
normal font signature (Arial, Times New Roman etc)
signature cropped half off the image
large watermarks
noticeable camera flash
Upsized images

We do not do quality control until you sell so, it is your responsibility to quality control your images carefully before uploading. You do this by zooming in a photo editor to 100% and then carefully going over the image, checking for the above defects

We require Adobe RGB or sRGB and do not accept CMYK or ProPhoto

JPG or PNG

-------------

Image Sizes

I am going to swamp you with information, but it will help in the future for any questions you have size-wise.

The image size will depend on the pixels size of the image you took or created, less any cropping you have done. We then create the prints that will fit that size and smaller, if you have priced them.

When you upload an image, our software takes the longer dimension and fits it to the following sizes:

8 inches x (xx)
10 inches x (xx)
12 inches x (xx)
14 inches x (xx)
16 inches x (xx)
20 inches x (xx)
etc...

The smaller dimension (xx) is then scaled proportionally to maintain the aspect ratio of your image.

Our largest print available is 108" x 48"

You are setting your prices based on the size of the longest dimension

4800 pixels is 48" at 100ppi So you can work out your sizes really before even uploading. Do not ever change your ppi as you do not need to.

We allow 25mb only and you can change the compression as low as 10 before it hurts the image

NEVER enlarge your images (change the pixel size to a larger one) as that degrades the print quality and we will refuse to print and, if your images are too large file size, you can compress to 10 in Photoshop before losing quality

When uploading, you can say you want standard sizing but they will be cropped if you do that, centrally. Unfortunately, you can't make your images fit into standard sizes without cropping the images.

Think about the aspect ratios of various "standard sizes":

5 x 7 (0.714 ratio of height / width)
8 x 10 (0.800 ratio of height / width)
11 x 14 (0.786 ratio of height / width)

If your image is 1500 pixels x 2000 pixels (0.750 ratio), you can't make it fit into any standard size without cropping or stretching.

On FAA, we don't do either without your permission. We print your images at their natural sizes and then custom mat and frame them, if desired. To have them cropped then you will need to tick that area in your Behind the Scenes

Templates are for creating sized images to fit on the products
If your images do not work well as-is when you load them, you can create customised images ready to add to the work

1. Create the customised image in your editor
2. Upload or edit your main print image
3. Scroll down to the product areas
4. See Customise and Image
5. Click image to load your customised image shaped for the product
6. SUBMIT

How To Upload

You should enter your details before uploading and not whilst uploading as, if you leave a page, you lose the upload

Go to DEFAULT SETTINGS and put in what you want there. That is called your markup area and what you add is what you would earn on a sale. If you choose not to sell something, leave the space for markup totally blank. Not even a space.

You cannot choose between canvas OR paper prints etc. Only the products or all the prints

Search pages (such as particular product searches) take 24 hours after the prices added to be shown normally.

Go to PAYMENT INFORMATION and fill out that (Paypal email) and if in the USA, (only in the USA), TAX INFORMATION

See your images page on your profile
UPLOAD IMAGE is there

There are several instructions on that page if you scroll down

Search pages take a couple of days to start showing you after you have up 10 images and a headshot. It can take a week, so do not worry about that area for now.

Read about keywords and marketing here https://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=4702720

You need to be logged in to see it

Lots of reading but worth it. Especially if you read it before you start uploading

Would this make sense to post in the help section? I think it may be easier to find?

I want to know the specifics on the optimum image size. How dense do you want the picture. (72, 96, 300, 600 dpi?) What is the maximum size (in ppi) for an image? (XX pixels by XX pixels at XX dpi)

Thanks

Abbie, I have noticed that some of my images show up as a little off on the sizes. For example, I upload an image with an 10 x 8 ratio and I get available sizes like 10 x 7.875.

It appears that if the ratio of the long side (in pixels) divided by the short side (in pixels) is not EXACTLY 1.25 it will round the short side down in 1/8" increments. In this situation do I end up an actual print size of 10 x 7.875, even though the image might be off of the perfect ratio by only 1 pixel?

In other words, is it actually cropping a 10 x 7.9991 image down to 10 x 7.875? If so, do I just make sure my pixel ratio is EXACTLY 1.25 or slightly less (Say 1.249) so that the calculated short side will be something like 8.001" and get cropped down to 8" even?

If I need to fix some of these is there a way to replace a file without deleting the existing one and uploading and reentering the description and other fields?

Sorry for being verbose.... Occupational hazard for engineers. Thanks!

Help please...

My last TWO artworks are telling me I have an error... that my file is not a jpg and I know it is.

Also, on my profile page if I change a pic, I can't delete the initial one.

And one last thing, the punctuation on my titles are not capitalizing in the right places.

Thank you in advance,
Diane

---------- My last TWO artworks are telling me I have an error... that my file is not a jpg and I know it is.

However you are saving it is not actually saving as a jpg properly. That usually happens when you have just uploaded from an SD card version or are using an iPhone or iPad. Their update stopped images saving as jpg's .. I have recently found out that the Android update may also be affected

You may need to open your photo editor and open the image and then SAVE AS jpg

If staying on the phone and wishing to upload direct still, use a programme like Aviary. Check the settings in it to make sure you are saving at full res, then just open the image and save it again. Upload that saved image.

---------- Also, on my profile page if I change a pic, I can't delete the initial one.

You may need to clear your cache.

Log off and then clear your browser history. If you add "?nocache=true" to the end of any URL, (without the "'s)it should kill the cache and force the page to update with the latest information from our database.

Search pages take 24+ hours

---------- And one last thing, the punctuation on my titles are not capitalizing in the right places.

You have capital letters at the beginning of each word, and lowercase on the rest. That is how it is I am sorry

I just read your answer above on how to upload. I still don't see how to upload new images. The red arrows point to all the choices under 'my name'. Where, in one of those choices is the upload area? Can you please be a little more explicit. Thank you.

Thank you Abbie,

I use my NikonD700 or F100 to sell my photo's, however I use good mobile editing apps.
They say jpeg. and are set to highest resolution. This one in particular is called, Brushstroke. Two out of three worked fine!
----------------------
I use to have Aviary and loved it, but they changed to Enlight. I can't get the app anymore. :(
-----------------------
My problem with capitalizing is in my titles. I put the title i.e. Room With a View/ Bidderford Pool, Maine.
It's the words after the back slash. You can see on my profile page.
--------------------
I'll try to refresh...

How are you doing on your chocolate supply?
Sending you some, as we can always use more...;)

Abbie,

It's all good again.:)

I started to rename my files and removed the jpeg. Easy fix.

The titles don't like the black slashes or comma's. Makes sense now!

Cheers!

Like so many thing on this site from the artist side, it is not predictable or straightforward where to find this information. I've had to search for half an hour to find the most basic things!

Ok question. I looked thru the site and don't see any posts about this. So I uploaded my images individually but now want to create collections. How do I add a photo to a collection after its created. I created a collection called Seattle...and I have more images to load but want to add them to this collection...cant figure out how yet?

See my image to find your 'Behind the Scenes' area.

By default, the images and products you create through our site are listed for sale.
1. Log into your account on either Fine Art America or Pixels.com (it doesn't matter which)
2. Go to your profile page where you'll see that the word "images" is underlined. The option next to it is "collections". Choose "collections" and from that page, start a new collection
3. Name it whatever you'd like, move your images into it, and click the blue "submit" arrow to save it.

You may now add new images by ticking that collection name on the upload page or on the Edit Collection page, see Images Not In Collection and add some. Press Submit to save

Do not forget to add a logo by clicking the Use As Logo link next to the image you wish to use whilst in Edit

Hi Abbie, new member here...I've been looking around and seeing a lot of posts on monitor calibration and color profiles. However, there is one question that I just can't find in any of the discussion. Is there any color corrections applied to the images before printing? (e.g. slight brightening, color adjustments) The reason being is that I'm trying to figure out whether I should pre-correct the images on my calibrated monitor, or just upload them as is. If to pre-correct, and then the printer corrects on top of that, it will definitely affect the quality...however, on the flipside, if I don't pre-correct, and neither does the printer, then my prints will be way too dark. Really hoping you can shed a little on on this.

Thank you so much!
