Bill: I really liked how you managed to present your video. Using the screen and then some product suggestions. The music accompanies the images very well creating mystery ... and that ship's siren at night ... hits!

Hi Edward, thanks for posting this thread. Nelson looks like a cool place, I have never been, have been to Jerome though, subject of one of your other videos, and it was breathtaking! So much character in the old cars, you almost never see them around here (Montreal). All rusted away I suppose.

I haven't posted a video for a while here. I have been running my channel for a few years and it has grown quite a bit but recently I had probably my first video ever that went "semi" viral, if I could describe it that way? So that's the one I am posting here. I am still undecided about whether my Youtube channel actually helps me increase sales much. I'm pretty sure it adds credibility if a potential collector checks in and sees that I have "millions" (ok 2 million) of views on my channel. Certainly not enough to make anything significant out of it from ads etc. And then again, I don't know, it seems like a lot of the more famous artists go out of their way to NOT show up on the internet :). Mostly I think my viewers are people who are interested in learning painting techniques, but I only have a few videos that I would properly call tutorials.

Okay, I joined the YouTube band wagon, just put together my channel and uploaded my first video, just a "tour" of one of one of my paintings. Far from polished, no editing, no high tech equipment just me pointing a camera at my painting and talking about it. For now that's as advanced as I'll get with it, I just don't want to spend a lot of time editing videos, maybe some day I'll start doing "live" painting videos.

Finally did a little video called 20 Cats with a selection of...well, 20 cats!

I didn't even know I could do this until recently...I clicked on one of my pictures on my PC, then "edit and create", and you can create a little movie with titles, then add music.

FWIW, since Pinterest just recently allowed posting of videos, like the one I showed below, I wanted to see if they would allow it to be used as an ad for artwork. They did! But note that my description on the Youtube post, where I also uploaded it, says, "A selection of artwork of famous film actresses from the past and present. These are available as prints from starsonart.com and Fine Art America." Without that kind of marketing detail, I'm not sure they would have accepted it as a form of advertising.

Results so far: it's been up less than a day, but has shown as an ad on various Pinterest pages over 13,000 times, has been clicked on 73 times, and saved (reposted) by others to their own boards 22 times. The cost has been around $16. Since I only wanted the ad to show for 1 day, it will stop appearing after that. But for anyone who saved it to their own boards, the post will retain the link, which is a form on continual marketing. Will it lead to any sales? Who knows? But it's a way of experimenting.

I'm still amazed at discovering how few slideshows of artwork are made and posted on Youtube, or anywhere! Considering that they're fairly easy to make, and if there's an ideal subject for a slideshow, it has to be artwork. Some basic figures:

The total number of people who use YouTube – 1,300,000,000.
300 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube every minute!
Almost 5 billion videos are watched on YouTube every single day.
YouTube gets over 30 million visitors per day.

I just did a search of "art for sale slideshow" on Youtube, and there's only a few thousand, or maybe less. To confirm this, go to youtube and enter "art for sale" and "slideshow". Very few results. Although some of FAA's biggest competitors are running ads.

But what got my attention is that this topic, about marketing videos of artwork, can really be segmented into at least three main areas: slideshows, how to videos, and video gallery shows. Entering "art for sale", even with the quotation marks, on YT gets mostly the "how to" and "gallery shows," which are live videos of people in action. But for slideshows, there's hardly any.

IMO, this is a missed opportunity for artists to promote their work, and in a way that more and more people like, namely "to watch." Or as Peter Sellers explained, in one of my favorite comedies:
"I like to watch TV".

Scenes along the Natchez Trace Parkway through Mississippi, Alabama, and Tennessee.

The Natchez Trace Parkway is 444 miles long. Classified as an All-American Road, this scenic byway travels from Natchez, Mississippi to Nashville, Tennessee clipping the northwestern corner of Alabama along the way.

"I'm still amazed at discovering how few slideshows of artwork are made and posted"

The real question is does anyone want to view a slideshow of artwork? YouTube has become a TV channel for a new generation. The challenge is to make the content more entertaining than a slideshow.

Youtube seems to eventually acknowledge the popularity of vertical videos and started to support them on desktop too, so I decided to create a channel and upload the videos I make for Pinterest and FB. This is my first one:
