Visitor Count . . . Again . . .

Yes, I know that the visitor count doesn't mean anything to a lot of you. Please don't bother to tell me that or even to explain why it's meaningless. I have a different question.

Today I had two t-shirt sales. I posted the sales announcements on Facebook in such a way that they SHOULD have been opened and looked at by at least a few. In the past, people not only looked at the announcements, they clicked through to the images. But today I watched and watched and watched for that small but noticeable surge of visitors on those two images - or on either of them! - and nothing. Literally nothing. The last "look" they got was the buyer over 10 hours ago. This makes no sense to me.

Then I noticed a comment on one. Aha, I thought. Finally! But the commenter's visit does not show, either. It's as if the visitor count is completely turned off on these. Is that possible? And, if so, why?

As I write this, I seem to remember Abbie's having said that sometimes Sean does turn it off when he's working on the site so things don't slow down too much. I guess I understand it if that is the answer. But it makes me sad :) I really like to see when my very modest marketing efforts are paying off . . . even just a little.

Edit to add: And a full 12 hours later, Kiez Germany finally finds one of them again. Bizarre (not that a bot found it . . . that NO ONE and NOTHING did for 12 hours after a sale despite my marketing it.

My guess is that they are working on the system.

when the system bogs down, they turn the counter off, as i think some how it eats up something. either that or someone was incognito mode and they got in stealth like. its also possible that you got the sale from the applet, if you put that on a page, i doubt they count those views.

or is this just a hit from your announcement? i find people don't click on those. if it was sent to the AW, maybe it wasn't counted? if it was sent to the AW you can check your google logs, and then look down the list as facebook appends extra characters now making it harder to add up.

Lately the search indexing has been shut down too, or at least running very periodically like once every few weeks or until someone complains about it. I suspect there is major work being done in the background.

Got it. Normally I wouldn't know or care. But this time I was kind of excited to watch. LOL

Not a link to my AW, Mike. This time I pasted the FAA announcement link into a FB notification - posted my own pictures (not of t-shirts, just of the designs themselves) - and included the links. I do mix it up, but I often do it that way and I always have at least a dozen hits. I kind of expected more this time but mostly it was where they were from that interested me. The designs were hot air balloons from the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. The buyer was from Albuquerque. I was raised in Albuquerque and both my husband and I still have a lot of family and friends there, a number of whom are pretty faithful to checking out my FB notifications. So . . . it was just of more interest to me than usual.

No matter. Can't undo and redo. I was just perplexed.

I'll leave this up a bit in case anyone has any other specific question or information, and then I'll close it.

Interestingly, my last visitor / bot was from the same place :

Says only one visit so it has not counted me and apparently nobody here who might have seen it in the 24 hr native art challenge thread.

I just hope sales are logged fully. Things like this make me doubt just a little bit.

Is there a reason you don't post the actual sales announcement link? Maybe that would bring more views?

60-75% of all my visitors have been bots from Keiz. Sucker hits me instantly after I upload and then hits me again and again. They must have a serious spider or whatever crawling around in here.

Jessica,

I do different things.

Sometimes I post from my AW using the FB link. That gives people a way to get into MY site and that particular image. In addition, I would post the link to the sales announcement if someone wants to see the actual piece of wall art or the product that was selected.

Sometimes I do just paste the announcement link into a post on FB.

And sometimes I do what I did this time.

It seems to me - and this is strictly anecdotal - that FB penalizes me in terms of reach when I post from my AW, my FAA site, or using the sales announcement link. I seem to get the best reach, certainly initially, when I post my own picture and kind of hide the "sales pitch".

I have noticed this also, as well as less activity on the Activity page, which is usually very busy. It's weird.
