An English Boudoir by Kathy K. McClellan
She needed a space of her own. Comfy and quiet with good lighting. A small room in the flat provided her with a place to create her own boudoir.
The room was filled with natural light. The netted curtains provided protection from insects during the night and while napping.
The bureau was the perfect place to journal all of her feelings and activities. More than once she found herself writing frantically for hours composing the most interesting stories.
Her friend Alfie rested on the bed, propped up on a small decorative pillow making her feel as though she was never alone.
Finally she had a space all her own; a space that nourished both her body and soul.
Note: this is a modified image from a photograph provided by Isabella Shores and created for one of her contests.

One of my favorite campsites.
American Fork Canyon Autumn
A grab shot of the cattle chute because I walk past it many times. Feels like an old friend.
Cattle Chute on the Coast
This grove of aspen was above my campsite, high on a mountain in Northern Utah.
Autumn Moon with Copper Aspen
This is the view of the Gualala River canyon, looking south from a hill on my great grandfather's homestead.
Drifting Fog
Mormon pioneer home in a canyon in northern Utah. I love the opportunity to record old things before they are gone forever.
Old Log Cabin and Hay Rake
Familar view of reflections in the Oxbow of the Snake River in the Tetons.
Orange Aspen Reflected in the Oxbow
I I like the way nature is reclaiming the remnants of this old cabin.
Wild Autumn Roses in the Ruin
This shot of a double rainbow was taken from the summit of Signal Mountain, looking north.
Rainbows over Jackson Hole
Had the great fortune to befriend an old woman who grew up on this ranch. Spent a couple days wandering around and still didn't see it all.
Old Log Cabin with Cool Vintage Artifacts
Roadside color in the Olympics. Bright and cheerful.
Wild Lupine and Paintbrush
I don't even remember what state this highway travels through but I do remember how liberating it was to stand in the wind and watch the storm over the mountains.
Lonely Highway
Tried to capture the colors running through this huge redwood log that washed up on the beach.
Redwood Driftwood Abstract
Another shot of the aspens above my campsite. Smelled wonderful up there!
Orange Aspen Canopy Backlit
The American Fuel Company Store was built in 1911, when the name of the coal mining town it served was changed from Ballard to Neslin.
American Fuel Company Store Ruins
Company Store Ruins in Sego Canyon
Camped somewhere up in the Abajos and went for a ride the next morning. Lovely way to start the day!
Autumn Aspen in the Abajos
I'm a sucker for any kind of architectural ruin.
Hovenweep Castle Ruins
There are a ton of sites in White Canyon but this is among my favorite because the mineral streaks look like lightning bolts.
Kachina Bridge Ancestral Memories
Again, I'm a sucker for any kind of architectural ruin. Throw in a pretty sky, better yet.
Pueblo Bonito Sky
Same campsite, Same aspen grove. Think this was somewhere near South Pass, Wyoming.
Golden Hour Aspen
Bisti Moon
Love horses, love the desert.
Desert Horses
I liked the way the wall seems to drop into the canyon.
Hovenweep Outlier
This bucket was hanging in a cowboy cave in a canyon off of Grand Gulch.
Rusty Bucket
Who can pass up a good cliché?
Chacoan Doorways
Shot this because I liked the juxtaposition of the windows and the angles of the walls.
Windows in a Chacoan Great House
Grab shot because it was there. The moose could wait.
Jackson Hole Rainbow
Liked the bands of color. Near my campsite in northern Utah.
Sheep Creek Autumn
Again, I'm a sucker for old stuff and this old hay rake was just sitting there doing nothing.
Rusty Antique Hay Rake
There are petroglyphs all over Chaco but this has always been one of my favorite. Probably because it seems a bit cartoonish.
Whimsical Petroglyph Panel
Another panel in Chaco. Sucker for frogs too.
Chaco Frogs
Tried to capture the soft pastels banding through the mountain near Ghost Ranch
Ghost Ranch Mountain Pastels
Usually not nearly quick enough to catch a roadrunner but this one paused for half a second.
Albuquerque Roadrunner
This started out as a photograph but I wanted to make it a bit more graphic. These oaks are growing in a fairly remote area of the Coast Range. I was out there very early watching wild hogs snuffle under the oaks when the fog began to burn off and light the moss on the trees.
Winter Oaks Painterly
This place has a horribly dark history but I'm still taken with the architectural lines.
Quarai Mission Walls
Another grab shot. I don't do street photography as a rule but I liked how this woman was framed.
Vigil Store Chimayo New Mexico
Did I say I'm a sucker for old ruins? I later located this adobe on Google Earth. Their street view was from 2012, before the tree smashed the roof.
Adobe Ruin Chama Colorado
I see sea monsters.
Sunbathing Sea Monster
Couldn't pass up an old shed with rusty junk nailed to the wall.
Rusty Iron on the Wall
I fell in love with this stallion and he fell in love with my apples.
Rez Horses
Hovenweep is under major threat. Google it.
Red Towers
Another southwestern cliché. Why not?
Hacienda Wall
There are thousands of glyphs in these tablelands but this one's pretty cool.
West Mesa Kachina
Ristras in Santa Fe? Who woulda thunk it?
Chili Ristras at the Market
This was the seat of the Spanish Inquisition in America. It feels evil.
Quarai Mission Masonry
Nothing unique about these old Spanish shutters but I did like the rusty medallions.

It is easy to be fooled by what appears to be serenity in this waterfall image. Wilson Falls, at over 200 ft., is considered one of BC's most spectacular waterfalls. Intrepid hikers to this forest location are greeted by the violent roar of the water as it hits the forest floor long before the falls come into their view.
