Canvas Specs: Fine Or Course Weave, Linen Or Duck Cotton

I have a highly detailed digital print I offer on FAA. I had been recommending NOT to order it on canvas, as I thought the weave might be to course. I cannot find any specs on the types of Canvas FAA uses other than weight, and glossy or matte. Is the canvas Linen or Duck Cotton, and what is the weave (course or fine)? Is it primed or sealed? Will the fine detail be OK on FAA canvas as it is on paper?

I have someone with this question waiting to order, so a reply ASAP would be especially appreciated.

This is the print if that will help:

Thanks for any help, Nick

I had submitted a ticket to tech support on July 25, 2018 with the above question. Although I received an email confirming receipt of the ticket, I never received a reply. I sent several emails to the email address on the confirmation email (support-tickets(at)fineartamerica.com). I still did not get a reply. I then submitted another ticket to tech support and to customer support, still without any replies. I have been a paying member to FAA for years. Can anyone please help answer my question?

Depending on the printer used, I believe it is a poly/cotton blend. This is what I found at the website of one of the printers used in North Carolina describing the matte canvas:

"The texture and weight of this canvas brings fine art reproductions one step closer to the originals, while the matte finish lends them a softness that invites attention. Premium Archival Matte Grade Canvas accepts superior water-based pigmented ink sets and is made from acid-free poly-cotton blend for archival longevity."

It may not be the same for all of the printers used but until you have an official reply this info might be helpful. I am pretty sure the don't use linen.

You may want to check for similar products being sold on the Buyer's Reviews page....there may be posts there about works bought on the canvas and their details.

You have been answered by Customer Support (this is not a tech query) multiple times. They have responded to every single email. Please look in any junk folders you may have. Or perhaps the site is blocking us

The first one back in July said

Hi Nick,

Our canvas is an acid free poly cotton blend. The canvas paper is sealed with a coating to protect and preserve the canvas.

Hi Nick,

Our canvas is an acid free poly cotton blend. The canvas paper is sealed with a coating to protect and preserve the canvas.

We would recommend that you purchase paper samples.

Just an aside here. I have been framing for almost 50 years. I jumped into the digital printing realm very early on, before Epson and Canon got into the game. As a painter I use linen canvas and avoid cotton. Linen is both much stronger and will outlast cotton generally. You will not likely see 400 year old cotton canvases. You may see linen. I have never seen any digital printing done on linen. Theoretically it should work just fine given the correct primers are used. I think it's mainly that linen is more than most wish to pay and anything that lasts a lifetime or even 20 years is viewed as, "good enough."

The term, "archival" is tossed about pretty loosely these days.

Isabella, I've not heard it called canvas paper before. Isn't it canvas or paper?

So - it appears - they are not actually printing on the canvas - but on a paper layer that is adhered to canvas. just what is "canvas paper"? CANVAS PAPER

I tried doing a search for 'canvas paper" to find out what it was: I tried doing a search for 'canvas paper" to find out what it was: CANVAS PAPER

Thank you everyone for your input and valuable insights.

My apologies Isabella (and Judy), I did check my server spam folder, several times. There was nothing there. I do not know why I did not receive the emails, as I get all other FAA emails. As to the fine or course weave, I will order the samples kit. Thank you for your reply.

There is a problem with Abbie's answer - " Our canvas is an acid free poly cotton blend. The canvas paper is sealed with a coating to protect and preserve the canvas. " I'd like to know why it says "the canvas paper is sealed to protect and preserve the canvas" . IS the image printed on the canvas or a canvas paper?
