Feature & Tags

I've been on FAA for several years... I'm noticing that when I tag: father's day or Virginia...
1) When I do I search to promote that search nothing or 1 comes up instead of 10-12 photos assigned with the tag.
2) Clicking the FAA Features or right now Father's Day Art & selecting photos my images do not come up.
3) When I review some of the Featured photos they don't have the keyword or tag in their headers or metadata.
4) I'm working night & day trying to get views, clicks, contest interest for fellows and trying to find out what else is necessary.

There are 6749 images with the keywords father’s day. The ones at the front of the search are all those that have already sold, the more times they have sold the higher in the search they will be.

I have 2 images on page 12 and both of those have already sold about twenty times each since I have been here. I haven’t bothered to look any further. No one will probably look at that many pages anyway when searching. If you haven’t already sold one of yours it will be way down the list.

If FAA make up a collection then the staff pick from the top sellers. There is nothing we can do except keep adding new work and make sure we put all the relevant keywords in with good descriptions. That and marketing outside of this site.

Lots of advice here if you search “marketing” on the forum.

I'm having to correct and redo my uploads. One question I have now is: what is the difference between a key word and a tag? I can find where key words go, but I can't find where tags are input.

Tags is just a different name some people use for keywords

The tag is used for promotion and some type of SEO which help users to understand the content better.

Let me jump in here as this thread that just came back up. There is an important distinction between a tag and a keyword and understanding that distinction will help you when you are trying to get Google to notice your images.

On this site there is a section called keywords that you see when you upload or edit. It would be better to think of this as the tag section. This is the traditional spot to put in words that you want to match with what people are searching for. Those words are keywords. However in internet searches the" keywords" a person enters are matched with words found in the description and title. Internet search engines mostly ignore the tag section.

So it is important to put the "keywords" in the tag section to be found on FAA, but also, at the very least, in the description for your image, used in a sentence in order be indexed correctly in the search engines. This is basic to all web sites. Any discussions of keywords off this site is referring to words used in sentences and elsewhere. Tags is usually a list of search words and phrases to be matched with an onsite search.

So to recap this, a "keyword" can be used anywhere and refers to the words that you want to match an internet search. A "tag" is a keyword used in a list in a specific section to be used by a website to index images on that site and is largely ignored by Google and other internet search engines, as it is not a good indication of relevancy to the internet search.
