You know, since starting this thread, we've found out that my BFs Mum, who has fought cancer twice, has now got leukemia and is choosing no treatment. At present it's low grade but she's being watched very carefully.

I am always surprised at how many of us know someone going through this awful illness. Or worse, someone who died of it.

We've come leaps and bounds in treatments since cancer was first 'discovered'.

I started doing it as my husband died of testicular cancer (GUYS CHECK AND GET TREATMENT) and of course, since first starting to do Race for Life, I've now lost my own Mother to cancer. I thought of giving it up. But I see so many others saved through chemo, radiotherapy etc, and of course they are finding cures that do not need this all invasive treatment. So I continue hoping I can help save even just one life.

Thank you Abbie. You’re right, there’s so much cancer around at the moment but so many treatments as well. I’m so very sorry to hear your BF's has leukaemia, and as she’s fought cancer twice before it’s sadder. Poor lady, I feel for her.

The guy I’m helping truly is looking at a wing and a prayer of hope. He has a pleomorphic cancer (several cancers all rolled into one). The DNA sequencing is a last resort at seeing if something can be done.

It's amazing what they can try now! I've everything crossed.

Good luck Abbie, my Dad passed away last month from Cancer, it changes your life so much watching a loved one go through the pain of this disease. My Dad was too weak to go through chemo.

I think chemo can be tougher than the illness itself in some cases

You're welcome Abbie, my dad's name was Ted. I think the cancer also had gone to far and with Dad's diabetes he just couldn't fight it.

Just bumping this up as I have only got a couple or so weeks now before this takes place.

I'M NOT READY lol

Well, it's tomorrow morning! I'm really worried as, apart from fight club, I've not really trained.

No family or local friends have remembered I'm doing it, not even my boyfriend.....(I've said to two people that tomorrow is 'the day' and they both just asked for what and then carried on talking about something they're doing, and the third, who was meant to come cheer me on, just told me she's off to a dog show, so she forgot too! lol) so I'm going to just go out, do it, and come home. Feel a bit miffed actually as I've been talking about it, like, foreverrrr
