Archiving "features"?

I often see when an image is featured that we can archive it. Can someone please explain this to me? How I do it? Why I do it? What happens if I don't do it?

The group usually has a thread in the discussion area of the group for posting features, it will usually be called a feature thank you thread or a feature archive thread. Go to your image page and select the image embed code that is near the bottom right of the page, type ctrl+c to copy that code to your clipboard. Now go to the group page, find the feature archive thread, go to post a new comment and type ctrl+v to paste the embed code into the comment. It's a good idea to add a little text as well, at least a thank you for the feature and the title of the image.

Nothing happens except you are putting it in a thread. Complete waste of time. But people think it helps

Complete waste of time?

Oh well, good job I didn't do a thread for February.

Sure looks nice though; especially the way I do it.

I think there are many reasons Admin's create an archive thread ... one of them being that it creates more activity in the discussion threads which boosts the rankings of the group ... or so we've been told. Not a total waste of time, imo. I would think that all activity in a group helps the group and the individual in some way .... it's called exposure.

I think it helps the group to have such a thread, otherwise the group discussion gets inundated with 'Thanks for the Feature' posts.

If that's the case then it would mean that participating in groups at all is a complete waste of time. Is that what you really believe? If so I'll stop participating in groups starting right now.

And I'm probably wasting my time trying to make it worthwhile for others.

But I knew that, anyway.

Commenting, following, liking, and favouriting are all popular time-wasting activities on Fine Art America; as is posting in the General Discussions.

But sometimes it's fun.

It IS duplicate work just to try and elevate a group in the search ranks, which could be better spent creating new images IMHO.

How very strange. I could have sworn the query was, often see when an image is featured that we can archive it. Can someone please explain this to me? How I do it? Why I do it? What happens if I don't do it?

This is what I answered. Now it appears I said so many OTHER things.

Wow.. I'm good! So few words to have SO many meanings.

No, archiving threads are of no use except you're adding the features to a thread. There really is only the satisfaction you personally feel doing so.

You do not need to do it
It does not help you
You are just adding it to a thread
You could be better off doing something far more marketable with the images.

Go off the site and market said images to actual areas of people who love your work. Make people love your work. And, as Brian said..... Create more.

The great thing about discussions is they tend tend to drift off on a tangent of their own.

Aren't favorites, comments and likes supposed to help move you up in search here? I know I've got some of those from posting in featured archive threads.

Creating for the sake of creating because you enjoy it is fine, but it's not a marketing plan. If your goal is to sell, sacrificing marketing efforts to create more is a bad plan. I've been doing a ton more creating for more than a year, increased my image count by something like 500% and have yet to sell a print of a single image created within the last year and a half, (I didn't back off on the marketing either). I'm not saying don't bother creating, I'm saying they are not buying just because you create, without effective marketing it doesn't matter how many images you produce. The big question is, what's effective marketing? I have yet to figure that out, or maybe there just isn't way for me, either way I don't think groups are working for me, but I don't think posting images in the feature archives is any more a waste of time than participating in groups in the first place. It works for you or it doesn't. As is usually the case, "your mileage may vary".

David, if it works for you, all strength to your posting hand. I was telling you the overall yes or no. But people assume I know nothing anyway so you feel free to ignore me. Most people do.

How can people ignore you, Abbie when you come out with great advice like this:

Go off the site and market said images to actual areas of people who love your work.

Make people love your work.

Abbie, I listen to you all the time. I keep my groups going but I don't annoy the members with a lot of emails or stuff. I feature the really nice images and spend my time looking to market my work...
Just like you told me...

Michael, just 5, but I keep them alive. One is scenic Massacusetts, covered bridges and historical Buildings, all fine art, north shore of Massachusetts and fine art lighthouses.

Thank you all for your postings. I really appreciate the feedback. Abbie also sent some great links yesterday which I recall seeing somewhere on the site and have been reading. It seems that creative marketing off-site somewhere is the best option right now, especially since the sponsored links aren't working. Have a great weekend all! Will close the discussion.
