I rarely ever visit it anymore and mostly use mine as an easy way to log into other accounts...

I thought I was going to try it one more time for promoting but i just can't make myself do it not when I have other places I like better.

I have banned a couple of people also tonight.. for their mean spiritied responses about some personal things in my life with my job stuff. I SO don't need this in my life.. And I am finding that it is IMPOSSIBLE to delete your account. I want to delete my account, but it won't let me!!! Anyone know how?

Roy Erickson

I think it takes 30 days to delete your account. Of course you could be really ugly and they would throw you off - but you'd NEVER be able to get back on if you had a change of heart

Mike Savad

you can make sure your posts are to your friends only. if its set to public, then anyone can see it, and respond to it. so that's a start. i think they come after you again if you do erase the account. but facebook really is not a good place to talk about your personal life. people tend to forget that they are talking to an infinite amount of people.

I have close to 1300 facebook friends, extreme right, extreme left and everything in-between... with lots of artists that are not part of FAA. I have it setup so I see mostly art in my feed from museums and artists I like. To me facebook is performance art, a propaganda platform and a place to promote my art... I don't look at it for more than a few minutes, earlier today I was shaking my head thinking: "people can't really be this much of absolute nasty blithering imbeciles", but yes some are. But really, it's a total useless censored piece of junk... the scrolling blog format is a horrible way to communicate.

My typical facebook scenario is: format an image beforehand, login, post the image as fast I can... then bail just as quickly, that way I have minimum exposure to said idiocy.

Diana, to deactivate your account, click on the upside down triangle, then click on settings, then manage account. Down at the bottom is a link to deactivate your account.

A while back, I deleted all my friends, unjoined all my groups except for one. I was wasting too much time reading about nothing, hours a day. I get so much more done now that I have no friends on FB.

RD, it must have changed. I deleted a duplicate account over a year ago and signed into it by mistake. It's still there. I don't think you can ever fully delete an account from FB.

Thank you Shara... facebook to me is such a disappointment and everyone wants to fight me for whatever it is I believe or agree with.

I rarely block people because I'm selective about who I friend. I also don't talk about personal stuff, I'm mostly there to share my photos. I ignore the rest.
For the most part I like Facebook and connecting with friends and artists. Facebook can be a very entertaining place. I enjoy it.

Seeing what old friends are up to, friends from my distant past and family members abroad, it's like one big neighborhood.

You can control who you see in the feed by snoozing or unfollowing people.

Roy Erickson

I spend at least 10% of my time getting rid of ad's - not relevant and block all ads from these folks.

I occasionally respond to stuff - but more often I write a long monologue - and delete it and delete the post - if it would just stay deleted. I don't put up with foul language or people who use it in every sentence.

The new group Trending Art for Home Decor and Design - I'm giving it a whirl.

Facebook, not for the faint of heart!

Great place to discuss, debate and exchange ideas. I look forward everyday to new posts and ideas. Mostly political stuff and of course, things that could NEVER be discussed here!

I use FB to market and seems to help. I'm posting an "Photo of the Day" now, day 80 today and also political bloggie stuff.

Just another tool to be used to help market art and IDEAS!

I love FB....have found so many lost old friends/classmates/relative, and have met in "real life" some people that I had originally met on FB....

Diana, I am enjoying Instagram much more! I've spent countless hours there getting inspiration and admiring beautiful postings. I am careful about who I see there, and it's mostly just great art and no lecturing or political memes or preachy stuff. As for FB, instead of deleting it, I hid or unfriended several people, and now it's quite pleasant. I left my family on there, though, because they can say whatever they want and I still love them. Wish I could love everybody, but ... nah.

Congratulations on escaping, I did about a month ago. I really have not missed it, missed a few people but that is all. It never was a tool I was effective with for my work, even my local work. A whole lot less negative stuff in my daily life now.

I enjoy it more than ever...

I found my way there, my page is finally active, and selling originals regularly now.
I stopped to get banned, the only nuicence is to negoiate sometimes with group admins, because they are bossy sometimes, but I need them to grow my audience...

I rarely ever check the main feed, I focus on my page, but is still the only place whereI can keep a track of my family and friends ( I am not living in my home country, and I lived some years in some other countries, so is the only place really when I can see what's up with them.)

I just need Fb ...

Agree with Mike. Not a happy place, nor an intelligent place. Neither has ever been true. But it is a necessary evil.

On the other hand, Diana, you are not alone. Latest reports show Facebook is losing members by the droves.

I joined FB because my kids told me I needed to...that's how they communicated....same as when they said I needed MySpace.
We have since moved onto Instagram and Snapchat.
I do belong to several genealogy groups, none of which permit advertising of any kind.
I use the groups for research, nothing more, nothing less.
I would no more post anything personal onFB than I would approach a group of people at the mall and share my personal life.

Your Facebook page is what you want it to be.

You have nearly total control of what you are going to see on your page.

Rather it is a happy page of not depends on how you use the tools they give you to control your content.

FB is natural for the most part. It is the people that you allow through following and not following that make it what it is for you.

It has nothing to do what how many or who your friends are. It is who you are following or not following.

You don't want to see the political stuff simply unfollow the people posting it. I do it all the time. I have half my family as friends but I do not follow them because I am not into hearing all that drama.

You create your own content on FB.

Same things with the groups. If you want to join 500 groups, that does not mean you have to see the posts all day long for the 500 groups. You simply turn off the notifications. Anytime you want to see the posts in the groups just go visit the group. If you want to follow a few people in that group and not have to page through a thousand post since the last time you were there, just search for that person's name and his posts will come up.

Take control of your Facebook page. Don't give that control away.

I've not been active on Facebook for a few years now. I've traded that time with Flickr.

I still use FB though to search info, but my account is empty. The people who I talk with most we set up group email which works pretty well. After all, isn't that what we did before Facebook?

Did you know that Facebook and Google are the top trackers of your life online? And they sell this information. It's fine if you're okay with that, but I am not.

Patricia Strand

Frank, I did not know that. But I'm not sure how it would hurt me. I don't care about being "tracked," but I would worry about having my identity stolen. If there's no risk of ID theft, then I'm pretty much okay with it. Although I'm off FB for the most part, it would take a lot to make me give up my Google Play ebooks!

android and google search is even worse in their detail of what they know about you. where you go, gps, etc. and of course they know about even the medical side you based on search alone.

What Jessica Jenny said yesterday. Plus there is (was?) a drop down thingie that you could click ... "don't show me posts like this" or something ... ?? ... therefore the political doesn't get me.

Abbie Shores

It's got nothing to do with identity theft. It just helps them tailor ads to my interests. Identity theft is totally different and down to those stupid quizzes people share

Roy Erickson

Whatever they have gotten of my "identity" - not to worry - it's done got - I can tell by what they send me - I just happily delete whatever if it can delete it - ignore the rest. I belong to a couple of groups - I'm still waiting to see how the Trends group works out - the other group is local - and there are a couple of interesting people on it - also a bunch of ... I post a few images there - but none with links back - the owner doesn't like it.

David King

"Identity theft is totally different and down to those stupid quizzes people share"

For sure. I'm amazed at the amount of personal info people give up for those things, and on FB in general. No wonder ID theft is rampant. Just giving your real birthday to a website is dumb, but so many people do it, if a website requires a B-day to register I always put a fake one in...after I've reconsidered whether I should join a website that would require that info and decided to still join. I've become more selective all the time though, I very rarely join anything anymore, I've learned I can live without most of this stuff.

This link is the best article I could find on what information is tracked by Facebook and Google, etc.

In other words, if you think you have control of your credit report, think again. Your privacy and identity is not being regulated unless you do something about it. The article explains why and how.

getting into advertising and they know a lot about you.

the amount of money you make, if your engaged, married, single, etc. looking for a house, just bought one, live in an apartment, what you do, what you like, the list goes on and on. they know where you just were, they some how know your going to go some place. how many kids you have, i'm not sure if they have favorite colors...

One thing I don't share with Facebook is my family, nieces, nephews and the like. It's all about me. I won't put my family in danger and there are so many crazies out there.

Michael Krek

I think it is like a addiction at first you always want that interaction with others. I think as a society we are afraid to be alone lol. Facebook and social media are addictions that only enhance that fear of not having constant interaction. I know for me the more I have distanced myself from face book the more happier I got. I now try to live in the moment and photography has helped me with that too!

Frank J Casella

Yes, Lisa, reminds me of when I was active on Facebook there were a number of police officers as friends. None of them had anything in their profile, and thew all shared general information, nothing personal or specific. A few of them told me in the message thing how they us their account to check on people who they are investigating.

Likewise, members of the chamber of commerce I belong to say when they hire someone, one of the steps is to check the candidates Facebook account. They tell me this says a lot to them about the character of the person they are hiring.

Count me amongst those who love Facebook. I keep my photography and personal pages separate.

Photography page is public. My posts on my personal page are only between friends unless I post otherwise. Family are kept private between friends. I am careful to keep those photos on my personal page.

Facebook has many controls. Instead of complaining, use them. You should achieve the results you want in the end.

it's a great tool for marketing when you find the right groups for your work.

Facebook has helped me reconnect with family and friends I don't see on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis. Some friends I've never met in person but have been online friends with them since 1995.

Patricia Strand

Okay, well something changed at FB this morning, and this is one reason why I don't feel I can count on the "settings" working, because this happens from time to time. I have notifications set for my close friends and family only. This morning, I started getting notifications for all others! I went into FB and checked my settings, and they are as I set them -- close friends only. I should not be getting email notifications when others post. If your settings don't work, then how can you even know your privacy is being respected?

Janice Drew

Patricia, write to FB and ask about this problem. First use the help section to see if your question is listed.

I turn off all email and push notifications. They are an annoyance.

I check my “view as” (public) frequently to confirm my privacy settings are correct in my posts and photos.

Patricia Strand

Thanks, Janice, I will try that.

Janice Drew

Good luck, Pat.

I can't seem to find that "view as" feature on my phone. I can, however, see it on my PC. What I see is "View Activity Log". There are three dots. When I click on them, I see the "view as" there that allowed me to view what the public can view on my personal page.

If something is there that shouldn't be, I change the privacy to "friends" only.

I keep my family photos out of my profile and cover photos as well.

I do share them with my "friends" on my personal page.

Nanci Worthington

Hello -

The settings in Facebook are always changing - just today when I selected to post from my FAA page to Facebook - it will never show the actual photo of my artwork some other weird photo. I don't have any problem when selecting the twitter button it posts directly with the photo and link ti Twitter. Facebook adds a link to FAA and when you click on that image it just goes directly to the home page of FAA. Not sure who is adding the second link - FAA or Facebook??
Its frustrating but I don't really use personal FB anymore either just my business one. Then the business one they want you to promote your post for $30 every post - so I only post my art not the FAA artists - I will post a public post on personal page because of the hassle with the promote stuff.
I have had more fun at FAA than Facebook in the last few months! So bravo for FAA and our artist friends!!

Abbie Shores

Facebook is doing this with your image

Just use the page debugger on Facebook to make it grab the new images https://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug/

Nanci Worthington

Hi - Thank you for the info on the debugger! I have used that before but forget about it...not sure why I have to do that every time. Twitter has no problem getting the posts right the first time. It is weird that their are always 2 links for a post from the FB button you click on in FAA. I will try again but it should be easier right:) have a great day!
