Question About Aperture

I have been searching for the answer to this question on Google but have been unsuccessful in getting help. In the past I have successfully scanned slides of my artwork and then imported them into Aperture. The file size for a slide as everyone probably knows is huge. I have then exported the files after modifications and the file size is still huge.

Now when I export them the file size is tiny.

Anyone know what is going on?

Just so few using aperture... I've been with Lightroom since it's free beta and never looked back

Thanks Jeff. Maybe I should switch.

My first thought was that somewhere your default setting of the export file size was changed, or perhaps the DPI is not set right. I have not worked in Aperture in ages. Did you happen to do an upgrade lately or re-installed the software? Camera plug in change. I would check everything what is not the same since your last export went correctly.

Thanks Iris! I have to leave right now but I do have a question for you later if you have the time.

Kendall,

I use Photoshop and generally, when I ope my original file that I captured with the full frame Canon camera, will open in Photoshop around 75mb and then when saved as an 8bit jpeg and uploaded to FAA, about 15-22 or so and plenty big for what I need. Have sold 4 foot x 6 foot prints, from smaller files.....

Hi Kendall:

I used Aperture for years but now use Lightroom. When you choose "Export" in Aperture (and I'm assuming you are exporting a version, and not original), check your export preset and make sure you have the one you want. Also, at the bottom of the drop down menu for the "Export Present" is "Edit". You can always click on this option and it will bring up the settings for the export so you can see what's goin on.

It may be just as simple as an incorrect preset.

Okay....let me revisit this. I JUST tried to run an export on an image and it didn't matter WHAT preset I used or how many dpi or whatever and...I got a small image (501 KB). Then I tried exporting other images and they were fine. Then I went back to try the first image again and it worked fine. That makes no sense. I guess I would say don't give up, keep trying. Apple no longer supports Aperture, so with every iteration of the Mac operating system, it could be there will be glitches. I have the latest version 10.13.3 on my computer.

Good luck!

Thanks Rich and Mary Lee. I don't know how this happened but my settings were different. When I changed them I was able to get the right file size exported. Hope that wasn't an isolated case like what Mary Lee experienced.

Spoke too soon! The file is 238mb on my desk top but when I tried to upload it here it became 35.

Go figure. I guess I need to get another program.

Aperture doesn't work for me anymore when it comes to slides and scans.

It works fine with my camera but that is it. All other files become tiny when I export them.
