Is this a recent problem?

How are you checking? Don't you get an email notification?

Lisa Kaiser

I only check like every other week.

I think you check because you make so many sales on your beautiful work. Awesome job. I would check more but I really don't have that many.

Diana Angstadt

Ed, you are are too funny... Jess and Lisa.. I check ... many times a day.. going to the "behind the scenes" and check there.
Lisa, you are so kind.. I don't sell much.. If I am lucky 3 times a month...

Jessica Jenney

For a time I had to check behind the scenes because I was missing email notifications. But since I switched to another email account I'm getting all of them
so I don't have to check here anymore. Although I may check to see if something was returned. Nooooo!!!

When my daughter was about 7, she got into the habit of constantly looking down her shirt. I asked why and she told me that she was looking to see if she had boobs yet. I told her that the more she looked, the longer it would take for them to appear.
Enough said.

Check what? lol I'm still waiting to see how many sleeps til my first sale here...I hope I won't miss it, but if I check all the time I start to despair.

Edward Fielding

It's addictive. Although, I think I check more often when it's slow, wondering if the site has some problem.

Other times I feel like I have a Spidey-sense, checking moments after a sale comes in.

I wonder if I account for more hits than the bots? lol

David King

I stopped bothering a long time ago.

I was checking every six months, right now I am checking almost once a day.

A good way to judge your addiction level is if you spot the sale in "behind the scenes" before the email shows up.

I used to never looked because I got email notifications.
When I realized I had sales and no emails, I started checking every time I sign on, which is about daily.
I don't want to miss a sale because I like to put a thank-you to the buyer on the image page asap!

Roy Erickson

I never check - and there is a reason - I hate to be constantly reminded that there isn't one. And, besides, it is not a sale until the money is in the bank (paypal).

Edward, I don't think you have a problem.

Janine Riley

I'm addicted to checking my views.
Sales I will get a congrats. showing up before I stumble across them.

Not having my house on the market any longer - I realized I shifted my OCD from staging a house - to " cleaning " up my galleries, images, keywords....

It is also important to me when I post an image somewhere, to see if I am reaching my target market.

But let's face it..... OCD - is a form of ignoring what we don't want to think about - by obsessing over something else.

Did you just get a sale ? you better go check...... Lol

Mike Savad

not all sales go to the sales page. and more often then not, people won't know what to say so they will repeat the last person. you get a congrats on your sale and it was from last year. its a real let down. i link my bookmark to the sales page.

when i check every day and don't see anything. then check one more time, then see something different, my brain breaks for a moment... that wasn't there a second ago was it? then i have to double check to see if that was real, or if i'm having a dream (and yes i have had dreams of making sales, only to find nothing in the morning).

Good plan Michel!

As with any addiction, you build up a tolerance and always need more. Certainly it is an endorphin rush when you get a sale.

Isn't it a great feeling when those sales happen? I love that feeling... Its like the old days when my AOL said you have mail... Today it just says you have spam! :-) and yes two new sales this afternoon! https://vistaphotography.pixels.com/saleannouncement.html?id=4df07bf8b13d5624a654c256f283b574

Frankly, I am going through a big lull.... I am not inspired to shoot much lately... partly because I have photographed everything in all the local areas surrounding me. I cannot afford right now to travel... Just feeling non inspired. I May try to switch it up a bit and do more still life work... table top stuff. I enjoy it.. but even with that, I feel like I have exhausted every combination of objects on my desk. Hoping to get re-inspired and not having the urge to keep looking at my "sales page".

David King

Diana, check with friends and family to see if they have some interesting items they can loan you for still life setups.

Good idea, David... I just think I need a huge injection of inspiration...

I never check, Diana, I rely on the email notifications. BUT! This week I received
and unexpected FAA check for $105. I thought it was a mistake so I did actually have to check.
Turns out I had sold a large print back in September and never received a notification.
Cool huh! I'm constantly checking Instagram for 'likes' so, I totally understand your
obsession!! Happy Sales, Diana!!!

Brenda Plyer

I see my image was indeed to small. Still frustrated that no sales are happening. Happy Thanksgiving fellow artists!

Brian Wallace

Boy, quite a few chimed in on this.

Please bring back the notification when you sign on and get a sale notification if you've been so lucky! (BTW, does anyone know why it was discontinued in the first place?)

The email doesn't always seem to be consistent or dependable, so I've also been checking "Behind the scenes" - "Sales" a few times a day, (only to be disappointed of course).

Joann Vitali

I only go to my sales page when I get the email notifications.

Brian I don't remember notifications when signing in. Must have been before 2011? I love the idea though!

Mike Savad

brenda you have a lot very small overly sharp, and highly compressed images

Wow,,and I thought I was the only one obsessed with this act. been trying to stay away from this because it was addicting, like FB, but different..At least this has a purpose! FB...not so much and no purpose other than voicing how we "feel"(insert sarcasm here).

JC Findley

I will throw this out and as always you can take it or leave it.

You can of course get sales when someone finds an image they absolutely love and buy it on the spot. It happens. That said, if you want to get consistent sales and be taken seriously by design firms you really have to present yourself as a professional artist. Having random snapshots of family members in your portfolio especially on the first page can seriously hurt your image as a professional artist with buyers. The same can be said of pets depending on how well done they are and if they can transcend just family interest.

Edward Fielding

Transcendence is always a good goal. It's also a good idea to get out and look around at what retailers consider sell-able. Visit a few stores, galleries, card shops. How does your work stack up? Ask yourself if you are truly competitive or need more work.

Brian Wallace

@Joann Vitali - Jessica didn't remember that feature either Joann, but Abbey does and and mentioned as a response on a different thread that she'd like to get it re-instated. BTW I joined in April of 2011 and enjoyed that feature a few years beyond that before it disappeared. I don't know why some saw it and others did not.

Today me too :-D But I shouldn't..

I am even frustrated, because here is late, I am getting tired and probably I should stay up till 2 in the morning, to share around, because over there the day is still young...
But I have this excuse now, so nice evening everybody!

A positive comment would be nice at this point. I appreciate my images are small however my camera on my kindle is what I have to work with right now. Hopefully for Christmas I can afford something more professional.

Brian Wallace

I got a sale yesterday but no email this time (again). I only suspected the sale because a few FAA members commented on the image and congratulated me.

Do you find you get sales notifications late? I get mine a month or two after items have been purchased.

My most recent sale popped up in my email notification when I was logged on. It was the first time ever I knew immediately when a sale happened.

Hans Zimmer

I usually check twice a day - when signing in and when signing off. So far no surprise sales - come on surprise me! lol ... :o)

Brian Wallace

Just another occasion of no emails with three sales today.

Brenda Plyer

My pictures are larger and yet still no sales. I am in groups as well, and try to stay inspired. Any words of wisdom. My pictures look better quality wise and still learning. I put my family pictures under password protection to not effect professional view.

Jeff Folger

Brenda, you use a lot of solarization in your images. If that is selling then keep doing it. If its not selling?
(Just my opinion)

Mike Savad

i agree with jeff - have 1 version of each image and if it sells well, make more. post things you would buy yourself and hang in your own house (like that lamp you have there). and other than that, you have to advertise, most of your pieces have less than 30 views on it. it won't come if you just sit and wait. your family shots shouldn't be in a folder called - people and fun, with a sample as the logo. if you don't plan on selling or buying them, i would remove them.

Ahhh I have nothing better to do so I am wasting my life as an Artist. (and waiting for sales)

Bradford Martin

I check often and both the email and the web site because you never know when that thousand dollar sale will happen, and you need to know when it does.

Funny thing is i have seen posts where people were angry they got a payment and never knew they made a sale. Checking the site once a month is all that is needed to know if you have money coming or not.

Marlene Burns

Diana, I hope that all the free time you'll have from dumping FB won't feed this addiction....

Thomas Morris

Well, if you're checking sales and seeing the numbers tick up, then that's awesome! There is certainly a lot of great art on FAA! I've been posting, joining groups, entering contests, commenting, liking and sharing since 2015. Have 89 followers and over 13,000 views. I know that people are having more success than I've had here, but I recently started posting on other similar sites that I won't advertise for here. In a couple months all of them have generated more revenue individually then I've experienced on FAA in three years. Not sure what I've been doing wrong here, but I'm happy others appear to be doing well. Common sense dictates devoting more time to sites that help my bottom line with less energy and time expended.
