Art the the result of the total essence of the person, heart, soul, spirit, hands, eyes, ears, feet, etc. It is all the senses that come out of us, either by using our hands, our voices, merged with our spirit. IMHO.

Art for me is first a feeling, then a thought and then my hands.

Just like pornography, i know art when i see it... . =>)

To me, Art is simply the human manifestation, that causes the observer to realize that he/she had never thought of "IT" that way before .

"IT" can be major or minor, serious or frivolous, beautiful or ugly, .

Mohammed so true your words art is not in your hands but heart, think of all the individuals without limbs and they paint with the brush between their toes, between their teeth, now that is conviction, determination and inspiration for all.

I don't think his statement is pedantic. Some of us are more logical than emotional. Perhaps the minority among a group of artitsts though.

The art is not the artefact - the object made (poem, painting, opera, statue...): that is simply an occasion

which gives rise to a unique event - the response.

Real art is the response in each and every unique witness.

Once public - once performed - you only own the artefact, the object made.

You own not the art any longer...

now that we know where the art is.... where is the op?

Tell that to the foot and mouth artists who don't have use of hands
but still manage to produce some art better than many artists with use of hands.

I know you were speaking in generalities, Abbie, and I'm not picking on you, but I just wanted to bring up this group of, sometimes,overlooked people in our community of artists.

Guess it just shows...you don't need hands to put heart in your art.
