Pixels Shopping Cart Widget For Your Website

Good reminder from Pixels / Fine Art America in today's promotional email. How to add shopping to your website. I use it on my main URL - http://www.edwardfielding.com/store and example #3 in the email links to my store as an example.

"Simply login to your account, click on the "Shopping Cart Widget" icon, pick out the widget that you want use, and then copy and paste the provided HTML code onto your website.
It's that easy.

As soon as you paste the HTML code onto your website, the shopping cart will instantly appear. Your website is now a fully-functional e-commerce site with the ability to sell canvas prints, framed prints, metal prints, acrylic prints, greeting cards, iPhone cases, Galaxy cases, and more!"

Anyone else have an example of it in use?

I don't use it because it doesn't default on galleries only images.

I like your pics though.

Beautifully Done Edward!

Jessica
If you go straight to Edwards web page-----leave out the /store to do that.
You can click on any image there and it will lead to choices for images or gallery.

I believe he set set it up to go to images when he included /Store; but you should be able to default to galleries instead.
Maybe!?!

Wish I had the time right now-Maybe later.
But it looks great, and I believe must be quite effective!!

Pretty sure Ed will chime back it, and might be able to advise you.
Best of Luck!!

I agree with Jessica about the landing page. I have 381 images. Not all that many, but enough to send people packing if they do not land on galleries.

I use it but I try to get people over to https://edward-fielding.pixels.com/ as soon as possible. Links on the home page go right to AW.

Basically because the formatting isn't the best - i.e. scroll bars are hard to figure out/cuts off the bottom of the page.

BTW - www.edwardfielding.com is build with Wix.com

Ed,

In WP, possibly in Wix, there is a way to make a button that goes to the AW landing page of your choice. Takes you from your site to the AW directly.

I am sure you have thought of this.

I would use this extensively IF... IF I could put my Vermont foliage gallery (collection) as what shows up on my Blogs' Vermont fall foliage page. I know I've seen before that Abby or someone had instructions to do this I never found a way to make it work for me.
I just want a single gallery to show up not all my 1200 images which is why I don't think I get any serious traction from having it on a few of my blogs...

But if someone finds a easy way to do this let me know... Many times I try to create a gallery of images and then put in the title the html code that will link to the image here on FAA.Pixels

Interesting, Jeff. Are you using WP.org or WP.com? It doesn't work on WP.com as the iFrame code is stripped out automatically and replaced with the 'a' tag when you paste it into a page, as suggested...

Richard, I take it back, as to producing sales. I posted a link to that page (listed above) on my Fall Foliage FB page and today I had two small sales to Tucson AZ. I had 132 visits to my purchase Prints page out of 157 clicks to my site from Facebook. This is up from 0 for most of this year. (It's a little buried)

So I would say with the right visibility it can work.

Ed,

Just curious, with your AW you land people on your images. What is your reasoning for that over the galleries?

Dave

Edward Fielding

Why make them have to choose from another level of choices? Show them the goods right away.

David Bridburg

Why? I tried voting in a contest here. Never again, this is the why.

There were 950 images to vote on. I got 35 in and realized I was not going to take all day here on this. I was not being paid to look at 949 image to vote on one never mind buy just one.

If people land on the collection page they can then see what topic interests them. And then shop it, skipping hundreds of images to the place where they will select from.

BTW in your first instance you are not saving them a step, they need some part of 3500 steps considering the number of images you have. So at 40 images per page some part of 90 pages.

That is 3500 or more choices to select from. You are not saving them. LOL

Hi Jeff, I purchased my domain through GoDaddy. I'm going to try to get my recent WP hosting reversed as it won't work for what I want it to do...no iFrames code. I purchased WP Hosting at GoDaddy and am in the process of setting my site up.

SharaLee Art

David...I purchased a SSL for my site, also.

Jeff Folger

Usually in your godaddy console you can have it instll Wordpress for you but go to the Wordpress.org site and read about installing it for the first time. Since you already have content on your wordpress site, its up to you as to whether you delete it and start over or you import from the one you have already. The problem is that your content is where you want to import from and install to. What you should do is log into your dashboard and look for the import plugin and you will want to export your content and database down to your computer and then you will upload to your new clean install...

Like I said before this is not brain surgery but it may feel like it... :-)

Jeff Folger

@Abbie the method on your website doesn't work anymore...

SharaLee Art

Ugh. I moved my WP site to my GoDaddy WP hosted site, that was easy. Now I'm still trying to get this shopping cart widget to work, it just shows a blank space in preview but shows a very small part of what it's supposed to. I must be doing something wrong :(

Jeff Folger

I tried it a bunch of times last night and all it showed me was the widget in the corner of the screen. I settled for the middle sizeed slide show and just let that run in a widget.

SharaLee Art

I finally figured it out. It has to be published or it won't show up. Sure wish there was a way to at least display the collections instead of all the images. I realize they can get to them with a click in the top menu, but it just looks more streamlined landing on the collections, if an iFrame can be considered streamlined.

Abbie Shores

Size depend on the theme you are using, Jeff.

David Bridburg

Can we edit the widgets for collections?

Dave

William Selander

Although the shopping cart code isn't as configurable as we'd like, there is quite a bit of control over what it initially displays. By using the available parameters you can get creative in using it. Here's a list of sample pages I posted to other threads to demonstrate some ideas:

https://selanderfineart.com/faality/

https://selanderfineart.com/faality/gallery_widgets.html

https://selanderfineart.com/faality/gallery_test.php

https://selanderfineart.com/faality/json_test.html

The PHP and JSON gallery pages auto build the galleries from simple files containing the FAA names of the works. What is displayed is easily changed by editing the text files.

Jeff Folger

And Abbie, I don't get that far as greeting to my blog.
I grab the code and pull out the part your page mentions and post that into the browser address bar and it doesn't give me a FAA page. It gives me the widget displaying my images. No FAA website around it to configure and then per your instructions grab the url (if i had something to configure and put that into the iframe code.... past that into my widget in WP.

I understand what you are saying I'm just not getting the same results.

Adele Buttolph

I've got mine set up though my Wordpress site and it seems to work fine.

https://adelembuttolphgallery.com/shop/

I just pasted the widget code into the Shop page for my site. It was several months ago when I did this, so I don't remember if I had to add any additional coding instructions, but I don't think so. The site visitor never goes to FAA - they stay on the site and the widget handles everything from there.

Jeff Folger

Well Adele you didn't post your blog. Just your gallery...

Leave a link to you blog where you are showing just a segment of a collection in (for instance) canvases

I think someone above posted his links and I'll try to see if he has it

Jeff Folger

William is doing interesting things but not one person has shown their blog with the widget configured for a specific catalog and substrate.

That is what Abbie put in her blog

William Selander

You can combine the product and galleryname url parameters to open th ewidget to a specific catalog and substrate.

Example url:

https://fineartamerica.com/widgetshoppingcart/artwork.html?memberidtype=artistid&memberid=257678&domainid=0&showheader=0&flagwidget=true&widgettype=standard&product=canvas+prints&tag=all&medium=all&galleryname=scenic+connecticut

One caveat when using the product parameter: when paging through the items with the next and back buttons after selecting an item, the parameter is lost when encountering an image without that product option.

William Selander

I added a couple combo buttons to this sample page:

https://selanderfineart.com/faality/gallery_widgets.html

Jeff Folger

William... you keep sharing your FAA pages but none of your blog pages. The FAA stuff is nice but I don't care about that.

Did you do the procedure that Abbie mentioned where you create a custom collection and substrate in your behinds the scenes widget and then put that widget into a blog page or blog side panel?

That is what I'm interested in. The buttons are neat but I'm not creating buttons to take them to my FAA. I want the image shown to the customer to be specific and in a niche gallery on my AW site.

William Selander

Jeff, I don't blog. What I was doing with the sample pages was meant to show how the widget page can be directed to specific things or galleries. You don't need the buttons, they just open the widget page in a lightbox. I had previously done some sample pages with the cart embedded and opened to specific items:

https://selanderfineart.com/faaimgtest.html
https://selanderfineart.com/faaimgtest.php

Is this something like what you want to do?

William Selander

I haven't tried starting on a specific image/ptoduct and confining to a specific gallety yet, but I expect it should work with the proper parameters. I'll give it a try when I get the chance.

But unfortunately, clicking the Virew all Images at the top removes the gallery restriction.

Jeff Folger

Yeah that is what I've found as well. The button are neat but as my website is a gussied up blog. I don't do much real html in there except the webcam page that is a html page. You thoughts on this have been very thought provoking.
Thanks

I was going to go to bed but SharaLee, you have a major problem with yours. When I went to your page, I got the login screen for FAA and not your gallery.
Either you grabbed partial code or there is a problem with the code, I went to mine at my blog seen here https://www.jeff-foliage.com/printstools-more/purchase-fall-foliage-prints/

And you should whether you are logged in or not get your overall ART gallery of images. You should not see a login screen for pixels.

If it looks normal to you then logout of pixels and go look at your page. I don't think this one is me... :-)

Jeff - I don't have a link for specific galleries in my blog area, just the Shop page. Sorry for the misinterpretation on that.

Jeff Folger

Thanks Adele, I figured as much. I don't like the shop page dropping people into my all images category since I have over 1300 images.
Even with 30 or so galleries it's a bit much. I really want to be able to create a specific page to my Vermont fall foliage or my Scenic Salem images and then put that on my blog with lots of content around it to make Google fall in love with it and send hundreds of people to my AW images. (Per hour would be nice).

Jeff Folger

Well hold on... I have to reconfirm. I was logged out of FAA and when I clicked the link down below, it gave me the FAA website but not my covered bridges. When I logged into FAA and went back, it showed my covered bridges. Have to explore this more...

****************************************************below is what my original post was**********************************
Thank you Abby for trying so hard with this dunce. I finally got the selected gallery to work... Can we have a Eureka here!!!
On this page on my blog I wanted to highlight my covered bridges of New England. NOW! maybe I can get some more buyers this next fall foliage season...

I've now done some looking into this and yes Abbie's instructions do work but... The first time I went to the page it shows the FAA/Pixels home page and if you refresh the page it will then show you the gallery/collection that you have chosen to show on that page. I've done this on safari, firefox, chrome and edge and they all need to be refreshed inorder to see the correct gallery.
I'm going to leave it at the 3 pages on my wordpress blog and see if it gets fixed. I'm going to put text on my mage right above the gallery to refresh the page if they don't see New Hampshire fall images or covered bridges or whatever...

Thoughts?

Oh! and Edward, yours does this as well. I went to your store link and it shows the FAA home page and I assume anyone new coming to our sites are getting the same FAA home page until they refresh the page AND THEN they get the real page....

I use the stand alone widget on my Weebly site just the way it is. There are sort option tabs across the top and one of them is collections Hopefully the shopper will notice that if they don't want to scroll through a lot of pages. The main thing for me is that they can shop right there on my site and less chance of getting distracted by something else means more chance of actually getting a sale. It would be nice to have them land in galleries but at least my art is the only art on the pages.

Added widget about 5 months ago to my own site (donhenryartist.com) just prior to an outdoor show at my home. One customer wanted a print in a size I didn't have. Showed him my Purchasing button and how to order on-line (with widget in-use) from my site. He went home, brought up my site and ordered a 16 X 20 print of Old Mill. Received it in 5 days from FAA which included weekend time (ordered on Saturday) and was very pleased with the service and product. That's the only thing I've sold here since Feb 2017 when I joined FAA. So it works well for me.

Abbie you are a gem for doing that tutorial... just created a website on wix in an afternoon as someone was wanting to wholesale from me, and I'm venturing into the tshirt business with a local printer. Thanks!
This is what I did with a wix site if anyone needs inspo... the only thing that takes ages is doing the images and uploading, everything else is so quick.

When grabbing the url to insert into the widget code, it's important to remove the sessionid parameter if one is there. Leaving it in is most likely the source of some of the issues reported here. I see on Jeff's that there is a seesionid in the code.

Jeff Folger

Hey Abbie, I think William was right. I took out the session ID and sent my wife to look at it from her laptop and the pages came up as they should on my images from that specific collection.
If someone wants to double check, please visit https://www.jeff-foliage.com/fall-foliage-photography/fall-gallery-massachusetts/

and let me know if they see the home page of FAA or images of Massachusetts...

William Selander

Jeff, it comes up fine for me now. the sessionid parameteri is specific to an individual browser's session and has no meaning for any other browser. It's created by the server for that particular session so it doesn't belong in a public url.

Mine was working perfectly yesterday - I had it filtered for tshirts within my graphics gallery. Now today, nothing. I can't use the product filter for anything on my AW site (and thus the widget).
I tried taking the session id out for mine, it was working fine yesterday. I'm at a loss of how to fix it.

Mark Tisdale

Heather - after reading your closed post, I checked my AW and find similar issues. I don't offer shirts but there are other products that return zero results.

Then I went to the main pixels site and the same problem there, so it's not just you or how you have your widget set up. It's a site-wide issue.

https://pixels.com/shop/shower+curtains

Returns absolutely nothing for me and that's from clicking the link in the shop in header.

Mark

PS Just checked and same problem on FAA. I don't use the widget, but it's a problem that's occurring across the site for some reason.
