A Little Green Rosetta

Threads are seeming a bit vacant, no idea as to why?

Huh?

They don't seem all that vacant to me.

I initially thought that this thread was like the project Steve Hester had 6 years ago.

A joint venture when everyone was invited to help color a fantastic drawing he created.

Here I am, with RJ Hacunda and Tony Murray, wearing the tee shirt with the final colored drawing.

I strongly suggest, that everyone take this amazing trip down memory lane......It might have begun "Vacant" but quickly turns into a place full of colored imagery.

Now, go click on the link...That's an order

That was cool...still have my t-shirt from the first project

The jigsaw one I did I painted on it .... On the back

I had noticed that the usual punch and passions had cooled down as well.
Could it be the season?
Not a lot of interest it seems, perhaps it's a natural social ebb and flow?

I am distracted by projects beyond the net, and a desire to get things done while the weather and my knees permit.

A little Green Rosetta is the last song in Zappa's album " Joe's Garage'.

Edward Fielding

Yeah, I don't see many of my neighbors around much either. Last time I saw them they had a bunch of stuff tied to the roof of the car. Also the school parking lot seems very empty these days. Rapture?

LOL, Edward!

As per usual IMO

The song specificly refers to censorship. It can be argued that with too much censorship it leaves you with meaningless drivel. Something not very thought provoking that is devoid of any real edge. To please everyone is not the goal but more like try not to displease anyone. What is left after the censors are done is a world of dullness. Personally I would rather risk being offended now and then rather than die the slow painful death of being bored, you? FYI, I am only talking about adults here.

Ah so a dig at moderation which is where I thought it was headed.

Marlene Burns

Ronald, there are tons of other forums and chat rooms where anything goes.
You should check them out!

Abbie your position is very difficult in many ways. Art is a subject filled with strong willed individuals who push the packet often. I walk a similar typerope at work between allowing the kids to freely express themselves and staying within the guidelines of school rules. I have always felt the moderators here do an excellent job, just right now I found myself wondering where several people are.

Ronald Walker

Marlene , I know that is true but I have haunted this thread for many years and know the cast of characters. It is odd that I have never met anyone from here but still feel a kinship with many.

Joe Burgess

I love you too, Ron.
I hope your Oregon trip was everything it needed to be.

Ronald Walker

It was as good as it could be Joe. My mom's ashes are in the river and Pacific Ocean she loved, made me feel a bit better to finally be able to do that. Thanks for asking, how are you doing?

Joe Burgess

All in all, I can't complain, Ron. But I will.
Just trying to keep up.
Can't decide if life is finding excuses for me not to make art, or if I am.

My family's heading to Oregon next month, with considerations of moving up that way eventually.
We'll see...

Glad to hear you found some closure.

Ronald Walker

Any idea what area in Oregon they are thinking about?

Joe Burgess

"They", would be me, my wife and kids.
We've had our sites set on the Portland area for awhile, but really want to get away from city living.
Just trying to find a happy medium between getting away from it all, and having access to it at the same time.

Who knows? I might end up feral.
Just me, a paintbrush, and a funny smell...

Ronald Walker

I use to live in Olympia Washington, very nice area and not far from Tacoma and Seattle. Just over the border from Portland is Vancouver Washington, which seems nice.

Joe Burgess

Yeah, we've actually started looking at Washington too.
It seems the more we think about it, the more confused we become.
Right now, we're just hoping to get up there and gain some familiarity with the area.

Ronald Walker

Not talking about this site but overall do you think that censorship strengthens or weakens art?

David King

Censorship by whom?

Obviously censorship by the government can stifle any form of expression. Otherwise no, the artist can just pick a different venue.

Bill Swartwout

I don't believe there is a censorship problem in this forum - at least not that I have seen. The Mods here do a terrific job and are likely overworked and under-appreciated. I do appreciate their efforts.

I would post more (especially now that I have more time) but I often use photographs to illustrate a point or concept (in a "former life" I was a teacher). The recent rule about no pictures in a thread without asking permission makes that more difficult - so I just don't bother to post. But I do lurk almost every day.

Speaking generally , not about FAA, do you feel censorship is a good thing for art or a bad thing? Are there exceptions to your thoughts?

So, Ronald, I have a question for you...your OP states you think the forum is a bit vacant...we have some of our more colorful characters banned and unable to add some spice ...then suddenly Mario appears in your thread....coincidence? I think not.
I hope you aren't a partner in crime...I'd be very disappointed.

Like I told Abbie, the other day, Mike...I don't honestly care what some people choose to call me..I always consider the source!

I don't think it is Digital either. If it was I would be happy since I have always enjoyed him and his art, but as I said I don't think so.

i do wonder though - Art... why would you come to a forum, asking for people's artwork, when you knew you were going on a flight just a few hours later. and wouldn't possibly be able to get back to them? couldn't have that waited till you came back? that would make more business sense, since you wouldn't be letting anyone hang in the meanwhile.

"Threads are seeming a bit vacant, no idea as to why?" Ron

I can't speak for anyone else but for me, I've been busy working on 10 oil paintings and traveling with the family.

I have read quite a few threads but did not engage cuz I am committed to painting and self study at the moment. What all I have read in the forum threads is interesting.

I don't think we need trollz spiking the discourse to keep it interesting. All they do is create a self serving troll-centric state of affairs!

Ronald Walker

Troll- centric, love that!

Mike Savad

that was a lot of something.

how would one get the painting to you? what would be the procedure. since it sounds like you don't have an actual location, how would one ship a 6ft painting to you? do you get the work first? or do we get the money first?

its odd that your email was a part of some indonesian site, and the address wasn't listed any place else on the net. i would have thought i would have seen it someplace at wetcanvas or the like, where they specialize in paintings.

Mike Savad

wouldn't it be easier to open a thread and instead of asking for artists, you can ask - what the buyer is interested in, and then people can come forward for that. not sure why its in secret though, its not like the art is stolen or anything. it seems like an odd thing to keep secret. and its not like its a lot of money either. $50,000 to a million or billionaire, is just spending money, not something to keep quiet about.

do you have an example contract about these terms?

There is a new water-colorist by the name of Mario you might want to check out. His original first attempt is for sale starting around $5,000 on a certain auction site. Don't know if any have sold yet so there might be a good inventory.

Good grief, what kind of clients do you pretend to have? People who just say - go forth and buy me a $50K painting? No one in their right mind spends $50K on a painting without appraisals and auction history.

It's just like your made up $5K for an amateur watercolor pricing. No basis in reality.

Edward Fielding

Yeah, because that makes a lot of sense. The client gives you a brief case of money and says "go buy me a painting". Only makes sense if the money is tainted - drug money or something.

Edward Fielding

Twenty years in business without a trace of a company. No registered name, no website, no press releases, no news articles...Just like a phantom.

Interesting how these clients trust you to find art yet you have to come on a POD forum to ask for suggestions. Doesn't seem like the clients are getting any value out of those "20 years of experience".

In keeping with Ronald's OP: For those of you who may not be all that familiar with "green rosetta,' the final song in FZ's classic three act creation, Joe's Garage, here's the final verse...

"They're pretty good musicians
But it don't make no difference
If they're good musicians
Because anybody who would buy this record
Doesn't give a ___ if there's good musicians
On it
Because this is a stupid song
AND THAT'S THE WAY I LIKE IT"

Perhaps by replacing all musical references to artistic ones then we glimpse something of the way this thread has "evolved"... ;-) ... RIP FZ

Ronald Walker

Song allegedly sung by the central scrutinizer. It is what is left after the critics are through sucking the content and personality from the music.

Mike Savad

let me see if i can understand this correctly:

you buy art from unknown artists, on a POD site. without knowing what the client wants or wants to spend. you buy up the art without knowing if the client even wants the item at all. and of course you couldn't show it to them before hand because they will know the "before price". then you spend upwards of $50,000 on an image, drag it down to a hotel, and then they buy it?

see that doesn't make any sense. because if your buyers are picky, they won't buy just any picture. and if they are spending that much they aren't interested so much in the picture as they are in the artist and the promise it will go up in value. but if your choosing these things at random, and not from another gallery where they already proved themselves, then you lose money.

in a real gallery, they vet who you are, choose things, and don't buy anything up front. this way if it doesn't sell, your not out the money. buyers know where to go, they can hold secret sales as well, and people can find it. deals are not done in cash, that has the signatures of something illicit. deals in cash are usually a scam. and very fishy, and untraceable. remember, you are selling paintings, not trafficking humans or rare animals.

why does this matter to me - the artist? i can tell people i am or was featured in a gallery. its advertisement for me, and it impresses some people. i can't tell them my work was featured in a gallery that has no official name, located in a hotel in a random state, where people bought stuff in cash and so on... that sorry would sound totally made up.

i do find it amusing that you came back in, despite needing to catch a flight and only after you were reminded about it, then you vanished...
