Shipping To Canada

Has anyone placed an order from the US and had it shipped to Canada? I'm wondering if the recipient will have to pay duty when they have it delivered or picked up at the post office? The website says there's a printing facility in Toronto but I'm not sure that's where the framed print will be processed at.

Lori - from what I've read in the forum in the past, duty is fairly commonly charged if it's shipped from the US to other countries.

On the manufacturing page: https://fineartamerica.com/global-print-on-demand-manufacturing-network.html

If you click the drop down a little above the map where it defaults to "all products" you can see where specific products will come from. For instance, framed prints show as coming from Toronto (among other cities) when I looked just now.

Since I'm in the US, I haven't seen this in action, but supposedly when you choose a product that's going to be shipped abroad to you, there's a note that you may be charged duty for that item (or items) in the shopping cart step. I'm sure there are will always be customers who miss those notes.

You'll see the list of cities change for each product selected and can get an idea what comes from where.

Thank you for the information, Mark! I wasn't aware of that information until today.

Interestingly, I called and talked to customer service. The lady informed me that they don't have a printing facility in Canada. I guess they better update their website then. :)

Lori, my sister ordered something from me, cost around $100, and she wasn't charged any customs fees. We're both in Canada.

These are the products that are produced in Canada. Assuming the order was routed correctly, there should not be any customs fees.

All other products, I do believe there will be customs to Canada. Some countries do have threshold levels. Not sure what those thresholds are. $50? $100? Higher? Lower? No idea.

I ship all over the world and most people that buy internationally know there is going to be customs and it has never been any real problems.

Lori - I suspect the person you were speaking to was the one that was wrong. I would HOPE as many Canadian members as we have we'd have been told if the Canadian printing partner was gone. And I remember them announcing the addition of Canada a year or two ago.

I rarely sell prints to Canadians, though, so everything I'm saying is guessing like the rest of us. ;-)

In my case my sister ordered a metal print so you can add that to the customs-free list. Although I order a lot of jewelry supplies, etc. from the U.S. and you just never know when they're going to decide to charge you when they shouldn't. You can always send in to get your money back if they've charged you incorrectly. Many things are exempt.

I am in Canada, my order that came from the US was over $100.00 and I was charged duty, anything I ordered under that was not charged duty
Don't know if a mistake was made but that's all I can go by at this point

The customer went ahead and placed the order. I thought it was strange as well that they said they don't have a facility in Canada. Must have been a new gal working customer service. :)

Thanks for the information everyone!

It depends on the frame chosen, some frame styles are available on the Canadian side (Toronto, Ontario I believe). I had begun a cheat-sheet of which frame-styles are available in Canada. I have had stuff come from the US and was always charged duty, thus I have a an alternate supplier that has all styles both on the Canadian/US side should I need to.

Once I see where it's shipping from, I'll edit the order/frame-style until I get a Canadian shipping. When that fails, I go to my alternate supplier. Too bad FAA can't get the suppliers to synchronize across the board...would make life so much easier...and I'm sure retain more business. I'd think that FAA would have a bit more clout by now in demanding this from their suppliers???
