For those of you who are Flickr members, do you plan on remaining a member and agreeing to the new TOS associated with the transition? Here is a link with details about the forthcoming events detailed in this email ,
Subject: Terms of Service Update
Date: May 23rd, 2017
"If you haven’t heard, Yahoo plans to sell its operating business, including Flickr, to Verizon Communications Inc. We anticipate the completion of the transaction to occur in June 2017. Upon the completion of this proposed transaction, Yahoo products and services, including Flickr, will be provided by a new Verizon-owned company called Yahoo Holdings, Inc.
In connection with this proposed transaction, Yahoo is updating its Terms of Service. You can review the changes by visiting our Terms of Service https://policies.yahoo.com/us/en/yahoo/terms/utos/
These updated terms will automatically be effective on June 8, 2017, unless you cancel your Yahoo account before then.

Good morning, all!
I don't see anything alarming or unexpected in the TOS. I'll keep an eye on them as the changeover happens, but as of now -- yes, I still intend to keep and (hopefully soon) revitalize my Flickr account.
Yes Frank received it this morning! I guess Ill stay too Wendy! We need to stay on top of changing our passwords and agreeing to the TOS when the time comes to ensure a speedy transition!

Yikes -- can't even remember how often I've changed my Yahoo pw in the past year. Let's hope Verizon is a bit more security-conscious.
I feel like a slacker for letting my Flickr languish; I really do think it's a great resource -- there just aren't enough hours in a day!

No worries even with passwords. It sounds like they have to get that all worked out before the sale transaction.

Jessica, I thought once a member closed their Yahoo and Flickr accounts that their photos would automatically be gone as well. I'm surprised to see that your work is still there. I'm thinking of closing my accounts, but I don't want my photos to still be posted there.

Why We Continue To Use Shi**y Old Apps Like Flickr

I think if you don't want your photo's on flickr and you are going to close your account - you should delete the images first. Just a thought. I have a couple of accounts on Flickr - seldom ever go there and haven't put up anything new in a while. http://www.flickr.com/photos/royde/ , http://www.flickr.com/photos/rde/ , http://www.flickr.com/photos/ncarshots/, www.flickr.com/photos/FlaShots/

Dan, thanks for the link. Very informative article.
RD, yes, good idea. I hadn't even thought of deleting photos before cancelling the account. I'll keep that in mind.

As far as deleting photos before closing an account on ANY service, I would strongly agree - delete all photos and other traces of activity first. Once you close an account, you lose all control over everything. You are at their mercy and good luck trying to get somebody to help you do anything.

Thomas Hawk has just under 130k photos on Flickr, and hasn't said anything about moving .. as opinionated as he is ... so I too have no reason to leave. Considering not a week goes by that someone doesn't contact me via Flickr about using my photos.

Here's his last blog post about Flickr:

Here is a sign that Flickr is still progressing, and I think the might be a good feature to leverage our being found ... using Flickr search to link prospects to PIXELS.
Introducing Similarity Search: A New Way To Search And Discover Photos On Flickr

Also, they just did an update to the mobile app today, where they claim they are preparing for some exciting new features.

Even though I haven't uploaded anything to my Flickr account in years, I suppose I should get back to it, at least a little. When I Google my name, my Flickr account still comes up very high, just under my FAA account. That surprises me because of my inactivity.
Frank, a little off topic but since you mentioned Thomas Hawk.....Yesterday I went to my dentist, They have a big screen monitor with photography digital streaming . One of Thomas Hawks photographs came up. This is the first time I have seen the digital streaming" in action,

I have made some great contacts and clients through Flickr.
I am hoping Flickr doesn't go the way of Instagram, for example, when you upload to Instagram, they claim the images still belong to you, but they do sell their API (which means any business that buys into that can use your images)
Peggy, yes, same here with search whether it be Yahoo or Google always comes up on page one.
Judy, do you happen to know the source from which that digital streaming came from? FAA had a program like this too, but I didn't think TH was here.
Justin, at this point we don't have to worry, and everything I'm reading on the Flickr forum sounds like they want to make things more robust than ever before while keeping the original vision. Flickr has never been one to follow the crowd ....

I really do want to revitalize my Flickr stream -- I've been thinking/talking about it for months. But, with the Verizon changeover, I've decided to wait a few months to see what comes of that. I've been caught on the wrong end of similar situations more than once, so will hold my horses before putting any real work into Flickr.
Luckily, I have plenty to keep me busy until then!

Frank, don't know the source of the digital streaming, There was no reference to it at all, I had asked the office mgr but she was not sure . Its really neat how it works, The screen is large, Im guessing 60 to 65" and every 3-4 minutes the images change . I love the concept,

Wendy - Don't blame you, fully understand.
Judy - Thanks.
Just have to say that in the past month I've noticed a large increase in views on Flickr, and wondering if this has to do with them being in the news over the transition ...

Here's a great article on the redesign of the Flickr profile page.

Judy, it might just be a TV running a slideshow if it's that big. That's what our big flat screen in the den got relegated to when we cut the cord years ago. Only one artist's work gets displayed on ours tho ;)

You're probably right Susan! I have another appt. at that office this month so I will try to get more info from another employee, Frank, thanks for the link! I personally don't like it when sites publish an individuals view counts, Its great for those who get a lot of views because they advertise, but counter productive for those that don't, I would like to have the option of making that information private on all sites!

I love Flickr! I have been a member for many years. it serves as a storage base for me. I no longer save my work on external drives or CD's. Flickr is where I go to pull an image of mine for use or for printing; and to save all my new stuff.
From The link Frank posted:
"...Additionally your profile visitors can use a pull down menu to look at your 25 most interesting (as rated by Flickr’s algorithm)."
500px uses (not sure if they still do) an algorithm program to "rank" the "popular/interesting" images. I left that site years ago.

I have had many different companies contact me about purchasing my work by being a member on Flickr, including Getty Images who are currently licensing my work.

Here's another good article. I got my new 'About' page I think its really great! Below is my link, share yours!
https://www.digitaltrends.com/photography/flickr-redesigns-profiles/
FYI - For now, to access your new about page you have to find it on your photostream. Also, don't just share the link to the about page, if you do it will be the old profile page. You just share the Flickr URL and then we can click on the about page.

Thanks for the link Frank, I just updated the "about" section,,,I may fine tune it more but in meantime: https://www.flickr.com/people/judykayart/

Glad I saw this, had an account for 8 years but never used it. Just deleted the pics I had and deleted account. I'm sure I have more accounts I have forgotten about over the years. Time to clean house.
Frank, when I clicked on your about tab on your Flickr profile the 25 pictures did not preview, Have you updated to the new profile page?
Judy, did you see the portfolio images first (what they call Showcase images)? There are two sets of images. I just tried on my browser logged out after clearing cookies and all looks okay on this end.
I checked it from my iMac. It didn't show the new format! I'll check again tomorrow when I get home in case I missed something! When I checked my about" section the 25 images appeared!
UPDATE,,I checked it again and it does look like the new format, One thing I don't particularly like with flickr is that they don't allow much room for a good profile image, My image is so dark on their site,,I notice yours looked dark too,
