Confused. Why Do I Have The Option To Print Up To 28x36 When My Photo Is Small?

My photo is only 2543 pixels x 3236 pixels, shouldn't it print up to 8x10" at 300 ppi?

Why do I see the option to print at 28x36, is there a magical software to make that work?

The sizes of the prints depend on your pixels. Unlike other sites we never crop or skew images to fit standard sizes, unless you allow it, instead allowing the artist free scope to just upload what they have

The only limits we have (Unless you agree to customers cropping) are that one of your dimensions is going to be forced to fit the following list:

8"
10"
12"
14"
16"
20"
24"
32"
36"
48"

The other dimension will be scaled proportionally to maintain the aspect ratio of your image.

4800 pixels is 48" at 100ppi So you can work out your sizes really before even uploading

Here are the sizes you need for products

Apparel images need to be 3543 x 4783 pixels
Batter Charger images need to be 789 x 1250 pixels
Carry All Pouch images need to be 2175 x 1425 pixels
Duvet cover images need to be 10176 x 8640 pixels
Greeting Card images need to be 1400 x 1000 pixels
Mug images need to be 2790 x 1219 pixels (Since you can only upload one image per coffee mug, you should just use this larger template size and understand that the edges might be cut off a little bit on the 11 oz. mug.)
Phone case horizontal images need to be 1247 x 2190 pixels
Phone case vertical images need to be 2190 x 1247 pixels
Round towel images need to be 4464 x 4464 pixels
Shower Curtain images need to be 7104 x 7392 pixels
Throw Pillow / Cushions images need to be 4125 x 4125 pixels

I have templates for the round towels if needed on my personal site http://1stangel.co.uk/fineartamerica/templates-downloads

We allow 25mb only and you can change the compression as low as 10 before it hurts the image

Never enlarge your images as that degrades the print quality and we will refuse to print and, if your images are too large file size, you can compress to 10 in Photoshop before losing quality

If you sell an image we will refuse to print if the image shows.......

Pixellation
Blockiness
Bad cropping
Blurriness not in keeping with the image (ie not meant to be there)
normal font signature (Arial, Times New Roman etc)
signature cropped half off the image
large watermarks
noticeable camera flash
Upsized images

We do not do quality control until you sell so, it is your responsibility to quality control your images carefully before uploading. You do this by zooming in a photo editor to 100% and then carefully going over the image, checking for the above defects

We require Adobe RGB or sRGB and do not accept CMYK or ProPhoto

Here are some examples for you http://fineartamerica.com/showmessages.php?messageid=2704747

Isabella... When you enlarge a "painting" larger than the size of the original painting , won't any flaws in the original painting be magnified ? I was always taught to make a print smaller than the original. I know this is not true of photography.

FAA doesn't enlarge, if that'ds what you're asking, Tony. A lot of happy customers have got large prints from this site. I have an old Canon 60D that produces images roughly 3400X5100. Without any cropping, I can get images printed up to 34 inches by 51 inches

Joseph.. I was just referring to a painting not a photo...when an artist paints an original, then makes a print larger than the original...any minor flaws in the painting will show!!!!

Of course it will Tony.

When you enlarge your painting ( either by Photographing or scanning ) you have to decide what size you feel comfortable with it being viewed at.
You can look in your editing software ( Picassa works for me ) @ %100 to see what it looks like.

You can touch up your flaws with simple editing.

Keep in mind though - a large size image should be viewed from several feet away.
it is not a Painter's job to be perfect.

Tony, that's why I said don't enlarge the photo of it, Tony. We're not enlarging your painting.

You don't upload a painting here, you upload the photo of the painting. The size of which depends on the MP of your camera, not the size of the painting.

when you photograph a painting, its now a photo. however they do it, it seems to work, they simply print less densely, they aren't enlarging it. but because it is less dense, it can highlight flaws in the work. as long as your work is clean up close there won't be issues.

for a painting to look its best, scanning is usually best.

Abbie, your list of products above states:

Duvet cover images need to be 10176 x 8640 pixels
Round towel images need to be 4464 x 4464 pixels
Shower Curtain images need to be 7104 x 7392 pixels
Throw Pillow / Cushions images need to be 4125 x 4125 pixels

Given the above size minimums, why aren't images of 4000 x 6000 (or less) rejected when uploading and including any of those products? Will they be rejected if an order is placed?

Thanks.

Susan

Abbie, could you explain me please, you mentioned that images for the products FAA not resizing. Than how possible that all my images with size 4200 x 2800 max
(what my camera allowed) on the shower curtains available? Once I had the sale of shower curtains and it was return. So now I can understand why!

There is rising suggestion and question why not put such technical information in the description for art product to see it immediately when uploading image??? After many years of selling products I can see this technical information requirements FIRST time!!!
Really now going to remove all the offers with shower curtains
