A greeting card was sold today! 4/24/2017

This lovely grapevine shape, revealed by my camera, was clinging to a neighbors fence in Minnesota. Using artistic license, I enhanced this vine and grapes with imagination and pigment. I loved how the purple, plum and maroon colors glowed within the grape cluster.

Big Bend in West Texas is a fantastic mixture of desert, mountain & river canyon scenery. Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting of a beautiful Sunset over "The Window Trail".

The dominant feature of Big Bend National Park is the Rio Grande River. It starts in Colorado and flows south toward the Gulf of Mexico. In Texas, it does a Big Bend to the East. Water carved small gullies & deep chasms. Some canyons are dry, while others have springs & streams lined with cottonwoods.

"The Window Trail" is one of the favorite hikes in Big Bend. From the Chisos Mountain Lodge the trail descends to a narrow opening in the rim of rock that creates the Chisos Basin. The exit point for water runoff to the Mexican Chihuahuan Desert hundreds of feet below.

Brown Pelican Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting. Such a cute showy guy (or girl, what do I know?).
I was vacationing at beautiful Grace Bay in the Turks & Caicos where this bird was a frequent visitor on the beach. It would perch its webbed feet on a post of an old pier, fluff its feathers & tuck its bill just so.

My painting style is impressionist & I exaggerated the colors of this seabird. Red orange on the beak, yellow highlights on head feathers, purple shadows on the white neck. I added a yellow glow on the belly & tail to suggest sunlight reflecting off the turquoise water.

Cute & regal, it is no wonder this is the national bird for many Caribbean islands & the state bird of Louisiana.

Shrimp Boat Nautical Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting. Shrimp trawlers, out at sea or docked in the harbor, are a beautiful sight. They are also the work horse of the ocean when the beams & nets are lowered for fishing. This white vessel has blue trim paint. Old hardware rust color has stained the hull. The deep blue water reflects the white of the bow. A fisherman works one of the ropes on deck. Green pylons of the dock fade into the distance.
One can almost taste the salt air & hear the seagulls :)

The Dun is one of my favorite color of equine breeds. The soft tan coat has primitive zebra marks with stripes on their legs & a dark line on their their back from withers to tail. The nose, eyes & ear tips are dark. The hair of the forelock, mane & tail is a lovely mix of dark & light stripes.

Hollywood Sign Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting. An American Landmark in Los Angeles California. The history of these huge letters reads like a movie script:
1923
"HOLLYWOODLAND" was 1st put on Mount Lee in the Hills of the Santa Monica Mountains to advertise a real estate development. Often on cinema, this temporary sign became an internationally recognized symbol & allowed to stay.
1940s
A care taker lost control of his car, he survived but the letter "H" toppled. The "H" was replaced & "Land" was removed.
1970s
Pranksters altered the letters to "HOLLYWEED" (marijuana laws).
The aging wood & sheet metal sign lost some of the first & third “O” & all of the “D”. An arsonist set fire to the bottom of the second “L”. The old sign was replaced with a new steel & concrete sign.
1980s
For Pope John Paul II visit, letters were changed to "HOLYWOOD".
The sign was brightly lit for the 1984 Los Angeles Summer Olympics.
1990-2000s
To ring in the new millennium the sign hosted a light show & special effects.

This sign is a treasure to see for locals & visitors alike. The land around the sign was purchased with donations to preserve the iconic landmark view.

Venice Canal Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting. Amazingly, this "floating city" of Venice Italy was built on WOOD platforms! Venetians moved onto marshland by putting wood stakes in the ground. They put wood platforms on top of the stakes & built buildings on top of the platforms.
The secret to the longevity of the wood foundation is being submerged underwater. The constant flow of salt water petrified the wood & hardened it to a stone-like structure.
Who would have guessed?

I was commissioned to paint this scene to commemorate a vacation here with the canal, gondolas, bridge & the Boscolo Venezia hotel with red awning.

I was staying in the local town of La Fortuna & fell in love with this Garden of Eden Landscape at Tabacon Hot Springs.
With endless beautiful nature, rivers, ocean, rain forests, Costa Rica is one of my favorite Travel Destinations in Central America.

Alpaca Art Print from an Original Watercolor Painting. The animal is decorated with red, yellow & green dyed yarn tassels on its ears & a bell necklace. In Peruvian culture, there is an annual fiber blessing ceremony, alpaca chuyay. The decorations signifies it has been blessed. Tassels are also used in Peru instead of branding.

Smaller than llamas, alpaca are bred for their wool. A specialty fiber, stronger than mohair, finer than cashmere, smoother than silk, softer than cotton, warmer than goose down & better-breathing than thermal knits. The fur is hypoallergenic, not itchy & can be processed without high temperatures or harsh chemicals.
The wool is also water & flame resistant. Amazing stuff!!
