Suspicious Buyers

I from time to time get inquiries that seem too good to be true. I wonder if anyone else gets inquiries like this? I typically respond to requests. They often are interested in a high dollar piece or several. Does anyone else get these types of inquiries?

There is a thread here to check for scams. You can also Google the email address & it will bring up other suspicious activity.

Clue - if they tell you they are out of town - & will send extra cash for their own Delivery co. to pick up - there's your sign.

it depends how its worded. if they have their own shipper, don't seem to care what art you have, want the titles, but have no idea what you make, is usually for someone else, is writing to you from an oil rig, its probably a scammer.

I got one the other day. Person in Singapore saying he wanted to buy 5 of my paintings and claimed he works on an oil rig.

in their off time, when they aren't turning wrenches and getting messy. cursing like a sailor and doing whatever they do... they may appreciate art and have a dream of owning a gallery, and may in fact be filling a warehouse with art. so when they retire they can finally open that gallery.

My understanding is that those folks that work on oil rigs make pretty good money - and really - they are pretty much just like any other folk that want to decorate their homes.

and as long as they don't mind getting totally random art, at random prices, then i guess its fine. they never seem to be too choosy, just anything above a $1000 is fine.
