Sign Up and Discussion for new 4-day Challenge – TO FUR WITH LOVE
To Fur with Love (can you tell I like puns?) – Valentine’s Day is just around the corner and this holiday in the U.S. is about love, but let’s change it up a bit and show our love of pets or animals. For this challenge, create art or a photograph of an animal with fur or even your own fur babies if you have one; and side note, your image does not have to be a Valentine.
January 28, 29, 30, 31
Start and end times are 7:00 a.m. Central time (Texas), 12 pm (noon) GMT
CHALLENGE RULES
1. Your image must be created the day you post to the challenge thread. Challenges are for NEW work only.
2. You must complete all challenge days to count as a finished challenge.
3. If you miss a day you are disqualified from the challenge and will need to wait for a new challenge.
4. The work MUST be yours, copyright to you, and free from any legal issues.
5. 24-hour Days start from when I add the image thread.
Newcomers are welcome, and, if you like, please consider joining our Group: CAC (Challenge Addicts Club) https://fineartamerica.com/groups/challenge-addicts-club.html

Purr...fect Gaby! Add me & my husband's cats to the list. It'll be a warm & purr-tty fun challenge... GJ

I love these "short" challenges and "To Fur with Love" is a great topic/theme. But, sadly, I'll have to pass on this one. We are on "winter break" and staying in an oceanfront condo - with no fur babies around us.

We will miss your wonderful photographs Bill...
meow meow meow meow... sign me up please.

RE:.. "FUR"
I was wrapped up in fur, since the fuel tank went empty (Landlord's responsibility)
Until an hour ago.
Now, at 57 degrees my fingers are beginning to work again.
I would love to participate
So please sign me up
(It's now 58 degrees)

I'll try this one, thanks....I like the 4 day ones as I try and keep my home page neat by adding 4 like images in a row. Thanks!
BTW, cute play on words!

@Roger, This has been a really cold Jan in NY State...
Bats to the landlord... Hoping your heat is on & you have thawed & doing okay. GJ

I have everyone above that wants to be in, on my list. One day left to sign up.
@Bill, enjoy your ocean front stay, sounds wonderful!
@Roger, I echo GJ, hope you are warming up now!
@Rose, thanks, I like to get creative with the titles. :), your process of adding to your gallery sounds interesting!
@GJ and Ed, no kittying around, sounds like cats will be making an appearance... :)

Hey Gaby,
I would like to use this scraggly black "Cat" I created.
Initially, it was meant as a commission work,...but...
I fell in love with it, and couldn't sell it
So, I had make another one.
I plan to photograph it, around my, now, snowy property.
Although, it's not made with real fur, I hope pseudo fur will be acceptable
By the way. just like my "Mice" and "Rats" , my "Cat" has a coconut head
13 Days Ago
@Roger, of course, you can - I will add real or faux, which is fine (I can't edit the top post now, so I will add it here). Love that scraggly little fella!
@Karen, I have added you to my list.

Feel better soon Sharon!
I have decided to make this challenge a tribute to some of my fur babies that are no longer with me.
Old photos but fresh edits.
Starting with my little sweet Jack Carhardt. Read his story in the description. :)
Bear with me while I fix a problem! I forgot that I already had an image titled Puppy love OOPS!
so the link was going to the wrong image. Be back!
Oh, sorry you're sick, Sharon, hope you feel better soon!
@Shelli, he is such a sweetie! Edit: your image took me to a black and white, I thought you had changed it, but it is still a sweetie. :)
I fixed it now and it goes to the right image when you click on it.
Gaby... that black and white you saw was actually the daddy to the pup in my image today.
Thanks for the compliments!
This is a tribute to my sweet puppy Jack Carhardt. He was a Jack Russell mix that looked so much like his daddy. I named him that because his brown markings made it look like he was wearing a work coat. He is no longer with me but he left a permanent mark on my heart!

OMG this was fun and way better than trying to reorganize my office/studio...
I posted the Cat Cozy Snowflake hearts wide for the CAC d1 challenge today.
I'm wondering if any one has comments on Cat Irish Green Eyes Smiling that I created after the initial post.
Any feedback, comments, better way to do than using my mouse to color enhance cat eyes is appreciated...

Hi GJ
I don't know what software you use but I use Gimp. to color the cats eyes I would use the magic wand select tool that would select just the part that you want green then you can either use a paintbrush or the bucket fill tools to add the green color. You would have to do this for each part of the eye until you get the result you are looking for, but it will give you good clean lines. Hope that helps, and I think Photoshop and most other software also have these common tools.

I'm sorry, but I have to bow out of this one (darn it!)....I've been sick with a virus for almost 3 weeks and don't have the energy or brainpower to do this. Maybe the next one. Have fun everyone, and thanks Gaby for all your hard work on these challenges.
Oh Rose, sorry to hear you had been sick, hope your energy bounds back soon! See you next time!
GJ, I don't have any suggestions but Shelli's tip sounds like that would work. :)
Hope you recover soon Rose! I had that crud too from Christmas all the way through New years and still have the lingering cough. But I do feel better now. This too shall pass!
Thanks Gaby and Shelli....I am sick of coughing up "gunk"....Dr (who I finally got to yesterday) said it's a virus....my poor hubby has to hear me coughing all night.
Sharon and Rose, get well soon!! I hear you, we had it too. Is going around. Feel better soon, will miss you!!

Thanks Ed and Sandi! Wore a mask to the Drs office yesterday. It was my 1st time out in a couple weeks.

What fun I totally enjoyed everyone's entries of our furry fuzzy friends..
even Roger's ... lol
Day two... I was was up at four am this morning so I got an early start and
I'm first in line with my charcoal and chalk, Peeping Tom.
My theme seems to be windows so far... meow meow
11 Days Ago
@Shelli, Thx for the cat eye tips & another app to try... It was my 1st time fooling w/ eye color trying to showoff their bright green/gold color that didn't photograph... GJ
11 Days Ago
@GJ - I use GIMP to adjust colours of cat's eyes. I use layers. For the bottom layer I create a vibrant image using the chroma or saturation adjustments to get the colour I want for the eyes, which makes the rest of the image quite wrong. Sometimes the colour changes are pixelated or jarring so I use the gaussian blur filter to soften them. For the top layer, I use an image that I like everything but the eyes, then, making sure the background is transparent I erase the eyes on the top layer, and the bright vibrant eyes show through. if the edges are too sharp, I use the smudge tool to blend. I don't know if there is an easier faster way, but this way gets the results I like.
That is a good process too Katherine! the beauty of Gimp is there are many ways to achieve the results you want.
Layers are a lifesaver sometimes! they revolutionized my artwork when I finally learned how to use them.
@Shelli I love GIMP. There is still so much it can do I don’t know about and there are possibly quicker ways to do some of things I taught myself. Today’s entry was highly altered in GIMP including the eye trick described above. I used it for the background as well.

I wasn't too sure I could do this challenge as I don't have access to anything furry, except maybe my furry trapper hat (which I discounted from eligibility).
I do have a few fluffy stuffies; so, I decided on a count-up system for the challenge.
That is one on day one, two on day two, three on day three, and yep, four on day four.
Here's what I posted so far:
Day 1 https://fineartamerica.com/featured/furry-fuzzy-kitty-only-a-fine-day.html
Day 2 https://fineartamerica.com/featured/furry-fuzzy-friends-only-a-fine-day.html

Day 4 pending

Thx for the Gimp & other techniques Shelli, Katherine, Gaby & CACers... I marvel that you express what you do...
I know I "fool around" with tools and try a bunch of things but couldn't begin to tell you what I'm doing or if it is going in a good way...
My computer drawing is still all using an MOUSE & it really sucks.
but the tablet & stylus art is worse bc it decreases all the sizing...
I'm using a chromebk w open access, mouse & lots of sleepless nights.
D3 I shared the Furry Friends Poster bc I want it visible...
Tho if anyone can take a look at the Fur Flying Cat Friends #4 of 5 image D3 Challenge images that's PURR-fect!

GJ, I also still use my mouse. It is a lot trickier than you think. Also Gimp has a very steep learning curve. I have been using it now for over 14 years and still feel like I have only scratched the surface of it's capabilities. Playing around is how I learned. If you can't have fun making art, well I just think that is sad. So have fun and experiment and always have fun with it!
I'm not entering this photo in the challenge.
I thought it might be just fun to post it here
( note: I'm now, a lot thinner)

A year ago, yesterday we had to say Goodbye to Monty Cat.... I thought I would edit photos of him each day but was just too sad..
But, today I did... Miss him every day ....

Day 4 has started, great art everyone!
@ Ed, hope your traveling day was fun.
@OAFD, great idea, your stuffies are cute.
@ GJ and Shelli, as Shelli said, learning our editing skills has been fun for me too.
@ Roger, your furry friends are darling!
@ Mo, Sorry for your loss, I hope your memories give you comfort.

Yes Gaby it was fun. Speaking of fun... this four day challenge was a lot of fun.
with all our cute dogs, foxes, horses and cows, kitties etc, and of course, a surfing camel. LOL
My drawing for day four is of a cat that showed up at my door one cold winter day in Chicago.
I invited him in and he stayed with me and my two cat companions, Taylor and Kotchia
until the spring thaw, and then just left... no goodbye, no note, I was saddened.
Although I did find a dead mouse on the door step. I assumed it was from him.
He never told me his name but I called him Rebate and he gave me a look that I think said,
"Really... well... ok I'm cool with that".
Thanks again for another great challenge Gaby.

@Mo, Yes, It's sad... Keep Monty in your heart fur ever!!! purr...
I know as I processed today's Granola outdoor cat... The bronze color of her fur reminded me of her mom, Momma Cat being hit by a car... She was the most cozy curl up classic looking cat I'd ever met. My husband is Cat Man & Cat Whisperer so we've gone thru this alot, and each one differently... Our Hemmingway polydactyl cat lived to be 23yo... Missing Blind Abbey girl amazing, I learned so much from her... Beautiful lean sleek Kernel Popcorn was a gorgeous male diabetic cat but we had to give shots/pills...
Snowflake arrived around 2yo in a huge Blizzard... Gizzy, Granola & Momma cat all landed in our yard pregnant which began a herum of 13 cats which we were able to get all the kittens adopted & became cat parents to 6 a bunch of yrs ago, 2 continue one inside/one outside.
@Gaby, Thanks for this CAC daily studio space... It was so good to remember our furry friends...
I'm glad it gave me/us PAWS this week!!! Love is on it's way, Happy Valentine's All, GJ

Thank you Gaby for this challenge.
Mo, I feel your pain. Every image I posted for this challenge were of my own fur babies who are no longer with me. It is hard and sad but I am glad to have had a reason to do these edits and share them Some of mine have been gone for years but I still miss them. I have more now and none ever replaces the lost ones but they fill the holes in your heart!
I always say that for every tear there was a hundred smiles and I wouldn't have missed them for the world.
@GJ
you gotta love a man who loves cats! Mine is just like that. :D
@Roger
how cute is that and was it a four dog night?
Thank You, for the comments...I agree with it all...wonderful happy memories for all of us of the pets we have lost.
And there is room in my heart for a new fur baby now..
Day 4 has ended, if you missed it, I am sorry, you did not complete the challenge. :(
I know this challenge stirred up memories of past fur babies for some, but I hope that the stirrings of the heart brought some joy for having known a precious 'fur kid' in your life.
Thanks everyone, wonderful images, I had fun creating and seeing all this art!

I wasn't able to finish this challenge, but I loved it. Thanks Gaby.
Roger, I love that image of you with all your fur friends.

Yes it was a great idea for a challenge. It brought back memories of pets in the past. Two of my pictures were ones that were much like my pets I had in the past.
