This week has been pretty huge in my world. After almost 9 years in scouting my son attained the Boys Scouts of America's highest rank of Eagle. It has taken a lot of blood, sweat, and tears from the entire family to get to this point. And I'm sure any Eagle family will tell you that they wouldn't change a single moment.
As then end of this particular journey comes to a close, I've found myself reflecting on the beginning. The two of us sat in the multi-purpose room in his elementary school, listening to the BSA District Chair weave tales of camping, shooting, and other fantastic adventures. A wide-eyed little boy, with a toothless grin, looked up into my eyes and proclaimed, "I'm going to be a 15-year old Black-Belt Eagle Scout." Knowing exactly what sort of expedition lay ahead of such a statement, I looked into his little, beaming face and said, "Ok buddy, you let me & dad know what you need, and we'll help get you there." It is amazing what you can achieve with the love & support of those around you--more than a month before his 15th birthday.
