Watermark

What are your thoughts on adding a watermark while on this site?

It didn't do anything but deter buyers. IMO

The facts are though that although it does deter buyers, it also MAY deter infringers. Although people here have found their images on eBay WITH the watermark and people can remove them (any) with programmes available on the web.

But it may, possibly, deter some infringers

if you add your own - they won't print it.
if you add a FAA style, it may not sell because its terribly ugly.

overall it won't prevent theft, and it won't help you if its taken, it can be removed easily. i don't watermark my items because its not pretty, and it looks really bad on white.

you can't be worried about theft because your selling online. and the image here is small, just don't worry about it. if you find it some place, bill them for the usage.

Can't count how many people ask if a watermark will be on the print... and that's just the ones who ask, no telling how many walk away from buying because they assume it will and don't ask.

Do you lock your front door?

"Do you lock your front door?"

It doesn't seem to matter, Ed. I've found my house duplicated in several areas already *with* the front door locked and *with* my name still on the mailbox. I don't have it registered so there's no sense in crying over it. I'm just going to snag a PD mansion and go with the flow :-)

That's the point. Don't cry later if you leave the door open.

So what are they snagging? The smaller image with Snag-It or the 10,000x10,000 (example size) version? It's funny to me the way customers think... it clearly says that the watermark won't be on their print, but yet ... "Hey! Is the watermark going to be on it?"

Large enough to show up on Amazon as phone cases, luggage tags, dog tags and whatever other product the overseas rip off artists can come up with.

I was just curious, I get a frequent visitor from Kiez Germany and a few frequent visitors from New York. And they are visiting as soon as I post anything new so it makes me wonder what's going on. Im getting plenty of visitors but not many sales so it makes me wonder if somebody is stealing?are people just looking? Does my work suck? Haha I understand I'm not the best photographer here by any means but it does make a fella think. Thank you all for your input.

kiez is a bot, any person that comes over and over is a bot. you don't need to come often to steal something. its in the cache, its in google.

if you've only been here for 2 weeks, it takes a long time to get a sale. you have to advertise. people that steal, won't buy anyway. 2000 views isn't that much btw. i get an average of 1500-3000 a day.

Some places, like Beverly Hills and New York, are main servers for many services; phones, search engines and main routers, so many people show as coming from these addresses

Apart from that, if you know about bots already please ignore the next bit. This is just how I explain them

Romeo
China
Guangzhou
and several others not mentioned here are search bots. We NEED them

Why do we need bots…. and why should you allow them some access to your site.

A search engine is a site that allows people to put in a search term and find a site for what they are looking for.

A bot, or web crawler, is the little programme (think of a little robot made up of 0s and 1s) who runs around around the web with a thousand mates, checking out all the sites by following links. One link leads to another 5 links and those 5 links lead to another 10 links etc etc. The bots all scurry around and report back to the big programme, the search engine, what they find on the pages the links lead to.

The search engine waits, all knowing and, when someone then comes along and asks for FISH, the search engine smiles to itself and, patting a bot on the head that brought back the FISH descriptions, tells the person all the sites that are talking about fish.

That’s a bot.

Wow, Edward... sad life those people live. If you can't take a photo or draw... l e a r n something like digital. Only 100,000+ tutorials out there. I guess they feel we're a cheap buck. Mike, Abbie, you keep being featured in my group! Stop putting up great work :) :)
