Hope you enjoy this living sunny floral bouquet which greets you at the gate. Note the dancing old fashioned orange poppies reaching for the sun, popping through and around the gated white picket fence and moving in the breeze.
Striking complimentary blues take care of the background colors while green poppy leaves create ground cover. The white of sunshine plays a big role in the design elements of this watercolor.
I discovered my reference scene in St Paul, Minnesota walking by a wild city lawn garden. Featured 8/22/2016

This watermelon poppy grew from the seeds in my Flanders Poppy packet. It has white at the base of his petals which are a beautiful cool watermelon colour. It has a wonderful summertime feel with it's pale green seed pod and sunny golden yellow pollen on its anthers. In the rising and setting sun, the cool watermelon warms to a coral - not what one thinks of when thinking of a Flander's Poppy.

August 25 Feature - Thanks so much. This beautiful, orange poppy has the blackest, largest center. It is an amazement in and of itself. I loved the way the lines in the petals lead you to its center. They are such fragile flowers but their beauty is everlasting.

A lovely cluster of blooming poppies, rising up toward the sun, is set against dark values. Strong bold colors light up the flowers while delighting the viewers senses. A unique dark background set against the edge of this angled paper gives surprise variety to this floral scene.

I thought this painting was a beautiful effort at creating motion in a subject that remains rooted to the ground. Note the abstract texture of the sky foiled against the floral tangled landscape and it seems the whole scene is in action. The colors of blue and orange are opposites on the color wheel, so they really grab you with their degree of color intensity. As the shadows creep over the blooms, they add variety of color and depth, and one wonderful blossom suddenly becomes the star.

This Red Hot Cool Blue floral is a landscape that is really reaching toward the sun. See the large open poppy flowers in red and golds, light blue seed pods and kinky stems against the dark blue background and reaching in all directions. I love bright colors! This contemporary gardenscape is filled with the bright bold colors of varying blues and strong luscious reds. Blue shadows set off the greenery. Do consider this a unique Minnesota variety of poppies.

This gorgeous poppy from the "Angel's Choir Mix" is a fully double, almost triple ruffled petals of soft red which soften with age with it's pinky-white highlights. It shows wear like denim. The centre seed pod has strong burgundy wine stripes and vibrant and plenteous green pollen.

I had a sale today 10/31/2016 after this piece received second place win in a Paintings Only Clockwork Orange Contest 10/20/2016 (3 tied for 1st Place) in No Place Like Home group. Thank you to the buyer from Topeka, Kansas.
